Just celebrated my birthday at Winstons, I got the contact info off their site winstonsbarla and I emailed them, I got a response right away and I was able to make a reservation, all my friends got in and we had a blast. The staff was awesome and the server was top notch.

Pros: quick service, great music

This is your basic hot "hollywood" bar that used to be hard to get into. All black inside, great DJs, good vibes and not too much bottle service drama. Girls are friendly and there is a lot of opportunity for guys and gals to flirt at the long bar that lines the whole spot.

Great bartenders who are quick and know what they are doing. This is still a great bar even if the "scene" has moved on elsewhere. Drinks in the $9 to $13 range. Beers are cheaper.

A great place to be after 11 on a Friday or Saturday night. Kind of dead earlier in the week.

Winston's isn't necessarily the trendiest place anymore, however it is still a great spot to go to. It's definitely a lot more relaxed than some of the newer spots that have opened, but absolutely worth checking out.

Look, this is a very small bar. Like, call the fire marshal if there are 125 people because you are going to have a stampede small. Accordingly, they cannot let everyone in. Physically. That said, the door people are not obnoxious by Hollywood standards. If it is late in the night and they are over capacity, you are not getting in. If you do not look the part, they might not let you in. (But, lets think about this people, would you go to church wearing a tube top? No.) But if you are dressed appropriately, are patient and actually treat the door people with respect, they aren't bad guys. This is not the hot spot that it once was - think people excited just to be there - but the drinks are still strong, the music is still great and the vibe is still cool. Hopefully, the Hills won't ruin it, entirely.

I have been here 15 times over the past 1 1/2 years.. Can be fun some times but has lately started to be less fun.. This is the door people being too nice, just because people are getting bottle service dose not mean you should let them in!!! Its these "teams" of 5+ guys that are starting to make this bar stinck, we need to go back to fall 07, let in local interesting people with good style!!!! I think there is room for this bar to be fun again..

These bad reviews are retarded... A. They don't make pizza. Seriously, they don't even serve food there so some of these people are obviously quite confused. It can be tough to get in, but come on, this IS Hollywood after all. Bring more girls than guys, don't be difficult, and you will be fine. Stiff drinks, incredible music, always good looking people. If you cant get in here, try el guapo, big wangs, the red rock, snake pit or some other sports bar or dive, cause those are the only places in town you will.

Honestly, I thought these kind of LA bars kept to themselves on Hollywood Blvd in the Cahuenga Blvd area. It's awful. It's a joke. Yeah, there's a bunch of short skirts and chicks on their phones but yikes, man.... Save yourself.

This is the worst pizza I've ever had in my life!! You call this a pizza joint? Winston's has the facade of being a very hip spot, but that's only on the outside. Once you actually get to know Winston's a bit better you can tell that he's the fakest bleach blonde, nose job having, silicone implanted man on the planet! But seriously, the quality of people that actually frequent Winston's on a regular basis seem to be the type of person that would probably try to order pizza there. We're talking about a sincerely un-gifted sort. The staff is OK, at least they try to be accommodating but that's probably so that they'll get a good tip. The DJ is the saving grace...off the hook!! If you decide to go to Winston's to check it out anyway after reading this review, make sure you don't forget to eat first because their pizza really is terrible!

OMG, First of all, let me tell you, I go out all the time, but this place is the BEST! I went there on a Saturday night, OMG you guys, the doormen were the NICEST people, and let me right in. Yes, I was in Playboy last month, but come on, I'm sure those cute doormen treat everybody as good, we're all neighbors! As soon as I got in, OMG you guys the music was just AMAZING! I have never heard better music ANYWHERE and I go out all the time. After dancing a little, I went to the bar and OMG you guys, the bartenders were the NICEST people, I barely had to wait for anything! I will definately be back several nights a week, nobody in L.A. treats you better than WINSTON'S! OMG, I'm thinking of renting an apartment accross the street, just so I can be closer to this place. If you aren't with me on the dance floor at Winston's, there must be something wrong with you. OMG.

This place was a real gem amoung the hollywood cool spots. Unfortunately it showed up on an Episode of "Entourage". This kinda put this place on the map for all the "I wanna be like that" crowds. This is a very cool spot. Have only been on Saturdays. nice decor, good looking people, mixed crowd, and great DJ. The service and drinks are great. All this adds up to what would be a good Sat nite destination, IF YOU COULD GET IN, that is. Like i said, used to be a great spot before showin up on TV. Now it seems like every nite is a "Private Party". My advice is to call ahead and see if its open to the public on whichever nite you wanna go. Saturday nites are probably a no-go, but check it out for a mid-week romp. you mite get lucky. If you can get in, you should have a great time.

Winston's was a great place for approximately three weeks between January and February, 2007. Now, it's a neighborhood joke.

The doormen, famous city-wide for their expressionless douche-baggery, preside over a nightly sausage-fest of black knit sweaters and $300 jeans. One wonders why the place is even open to public at all, as it seems it could make plenty of money just being the private-party, under-capacity circle-j*rk it is.

Thinking of going to Winstons well...roll the dice. Your admission all depends on the person on the door that night.
Most of the doormen suffer from some sort of bi-polar disorder. Either, you recieve drama at the door and
you are whisked inside or......you are made to wait outside while B-list celebs come in and out.
Getting past the door is treacherous. But when inside the dj is awesome and the drinks are well made.
Never go for a birthday or any event where you have high expectations...because they probably won't be met.

This place is highly overrated. The mac n cheese is nasty. The waiters are rude. However, the people watching is decent. I wouldn't come here for the food or drink again. Ever.

I have been there once for a birthday party and it felt all right nothing so special. It was around 9:30 and there was no one at the door or in the bar except a couple of friends who came to celebrate it with us.Around 10:30 it got crowded.
However this weekend it sucked for a big time.I and my two friends waited one hour to get in. The guy at behind us (whose friends were already inside and tried to get him in) could not take it anymore and had a big discussion; said some dirty words to those stupid doormen for 10 minutes without getting any response from them and left the place. And during his discussion my girl friend also said a few things to support this guy because it was really stupid; We were waiting there and these so "cool" doormen were not getting people who were waiting in the line (except you know them /be on the list or came as a girl group)
And this is not really a rage of not getting in `cause I ve been there.
I really like night life and have been hottest places in La and I know how the things work;
You look good; you should have a reservation or you have to know someone inside for some places to get in quickly. We really looked better than average but ratio was 2 men 1 girl. These stupid gorillas at the door were getting every girl (doesn`t matter how she looked ) coming and not letting people who came with mixed crowd waiting in the line.
At the end, the doorman told me "I could get in but not with my girl friend because she`d had some discussion with him" and I said how stupid and uncool he was acting and left to place to get drink at the neighbor Bar Lubitsch.
Believe me there is nothing special inside (I ve been there ) and those guys at the door don`t have a clue about how "a really cool place" is managed.
I`m sure no one will remember it next season.
If you wanna get some drink with a cool crowd try a half block away "Bar Lubitsch"

Gotta tell ya, I live in denver and just happened across the reviews for this place... hilarious. I own restaurants and bars here, and I just can't imagine having to deal with the added layer of politicking as indicated in Kady Marriott and others' reviews.

Not sure if I should congratulate the owners for operating under duress, or congratulate Ms Marriott for walking away because she didn't want to deal with what sounds from afar to be a friggin nightmare...

Me and my buddies alwasy come here on sat nights, it started off awesome and then has dwindled down everyweek. However last week they replaced the cheesy guy bartender with a smoking hot, heres the kicker SWEET(for hollywood thats a rare quality) redhead. She perked up the whole bar. The other bartenders were dancing and taking shots, the girls in the bar were dancing more, It was just what that place needed. hopefully winstons is on its way back up!

Will never return. I get the whole guest list thing, but seriously there was probably a handful of people inside, nobody in line and we were told it was guest list only, for a whole 20 people on the list. I've been to my share of parties that are hard to get into, so they say, partied with the Playboy girls and I can hold my own. I'm also female, blonde, blue eyed, naturally attractive, but not a fake 10. I've never been told no in my life, which isn't always a good thing, but you get the point! If it was crowded I would have understood, but I just wanted to have a relaxing drink and probably would have left before their so called list arrived, but I have no desire to now. What appealed to me is that this place once had a mixed crowd, but I guess things have changed. Have fun because I will elsewhere.

The door men will make you wait outside(for an undisclosed time...'you're not gettin in') even though they are not even near capacity inside. And I'm talking about Monday and Tuesday nights! And when you get in it's not all that. Sure, some celebrities go there, but only for a little while longer. It is soon to become one on a long list of 'hotspots' that aren't that 'hot'.

This place is a joke?with there door policy? This past Saturday night there where four of us on the list, because you have to make a reservation to get in at any time, otherwise you will wait outside all night.

Once we got there at 11:00PM the doorman said we where not on the list and we would have to wait because it was reservations only and since it was Saturday Night, they where almost full. After insisting that they recheck the list, as it will be, we where indeed on the list and let in after standing outside for 20mins, because the place was almost full.

When we walked in, there where no more then 20 people inside, now that?s a joke. To top it all off the place is not all that great, and the drinks where not either. Needless to say, no need for me to go back. If it?s the policy of the owners to allow there staff to keep paying patrons out, let them go out of business.

You would overlook this bar if you didn't know what to look for! Upon my first visit to Winston's, I found the outside appearance of the bar discouraging and frightening. I found myself wondering: "why are people waiting in line for this dark, barish place??" Indeed, there was a LONG line at 11:30. However, once inside (after about 20 minutes wait), the bar opens up to a HUGE room that could easily accomadate the crowd outside. It was a comfortable amount of people inside and I didn't have to wait long to get a drink. The atmospher was casual/dressy, with lots of good looking people. I would recommend this bar to those looking for a casual scene, or something more mellow than that of the Sunset strip.

Winstons is a wonderful hotspot!.
I went on a Saturday night for a friend's b-day party, normally, I prefer dance clubs, but this place is just about perfect in every way as an exciting lounge.
1) To begin with, promoters and doormen are courteous (so unlike other LA hot spots. Special thanks to Brad Schmidt!)
2) The bartenders are friendly and know how to serve
3) DJ is absolutely rocking (loved her! such a great mix of eclectic songs - not the usual hip-hop music you hear at clubs)
4) The people were beautiful and classy (and a good mix of races, beautiful of course, but some hot spots prides itself on not letting in non-white people, I think)
5) The decor was comfortable and classy
6) Saw some cool celebs (it was cool to be able to chat up celebs who seemed so down to earth)
7) Even the bathroom lady was sweet and the bathrooms itself was clean (so unlike some bars/clubs-gross!)
All in all the ambience, clientele, music, employees, and celeb-factor were wonderful.
Definitely would go back.
Not sure what the negative reviews were about (perhaps from competing bar/club owners or promoters or people who could not get in?)
If you go, dress to impress, look your best, and have a great attitude to amp your chances of getting in, and once in, be classy and have a great time!

Pros: Beautiful people, Celebs, Music, Employees

Cons: Can't think of anything except maybe they should have added dining and a dance floor

.

I went hear recently after going to Parc (which I liked) and I enjoyed myself. It was crowded and the people were good looking. I tripped into the movable banquettes twice because it was a bit dark. Staff was friendly for sure. My biggest complaint is the volume of the music. The DJ was great but they should turn it down a notch. I noticed they turned it down later in the night after I complained, which was cool of them. The decor is a bit weird with the boats, but I dug it. So different for LA. I wish Venice had a Winstons.

I have been to Winston's a few times, once with Nikki Hilton and Hillary Swank and twice by myself without any problems. Last night I went and it was a complete 360 turnaround. The door guy upright refused to let me in with the BS list con. I don't think he realized who I was, I did not tell him who I was because unlike some celebs I don't like throwing my name around to get my way and plus there were alot of people standing there getting the same BS "list" run around. There were several people walked up to me to say hello and get an autograph, they knew who I was and couldn't believe the door man were giving me the run around as well. As I was leaving a guy came out the door wearing flip flops,(YES, I SAID FLIP FLOPS, REAL CLASSY ) and told me hold on a second, so I walked back to the door and told him to go get Andy, and this point I told him who I was. He looked surprised and said "Oh,Ok I didn't know that, I will be right back". As I was waiting on Andy, I had the little asian dude at the door tell me I needed to leave because I wasn't getting in tonight. I told him I was waiting on Andy, he smurked and said "yeah,Ok,whatever. I was offended by this so I just walked away to go elsewhere. As I was walking away I heard one of the other people trying to get in say," Damn, If they aren't going to let Kady Marriott in, then we don't stand a chance." The door guys response to their statement was,"Oh, man are you kidding? Is that who she was? He then yelled for me to come back but I just kept walking. So unless you are one of the "well known celebs" that are on Coke, Alcoholics, Anorexic, or make stupid acts for attention ( due to their almost washed up fame) then you will fit right in. As for the other celebs and the new celebs who are straight up and not washed up, they might let you in if you broadcast who you are to the public and everyone there, or you can call your agent or PR to straighten them out. OUR MONEY (myself, agent and PR) is what keeps them in Business.

Pros: Cozy, Dim lighted, Decor, and Strong drinks ( that could be expenseive for the average Joe's.

Cons: Stupidity, Disrespectful, Small, Bad waitstaff, Smell of stale beer

I have been here once and it was ok, I probably would have had a better time if I had a friend tag along, but I was solo. I have only been in LA for a few months so i haven't made many friend's yet. The friend's I do have are all married and don't get to go out. In the mean time, maybe I will meet some new friend's that aren't tied down and like to go out and have a good time. I think my next trip to Winston's will be much better when I have a friend to hang out with. So if anyone else is in the same boat I am in and looking for new friend's to hang out with, let me know. As far as all the negativity towards the bar, I had NO PROBLEMS of any kind getting in and being served. The only downside was going alone.

I was told by friends that Winston's comes just about as close to a N.Y. lounge as they come, and they were right. The crowd Last sunday was one of the best crowds i've partied with in LA. very East side for being in West LA. Everyone from the Door guy to the Bar staff was completely unpretentious and just nice [Teddys and Hyde can take a lesson from them] The DJ was one of the best i've heard in LA. a real East Coast vibe and had the whole place dancing. I saw Samaire Armstrong from the O.C rocking out in his booth. All in all it's the only thing really going on, on Sunday nights. Highly Recommended!

From a person who regularly visits clubs/bars, I gotta say that Winstons is a spot that is definitely worthy of some attention!!! Unlike other places in the area, Winstons is a place that pretty much defines what the Los Angeles bar/club scene is about: A classy, regal place where you can chill your your friends, grab some great drinks (not watered down like other places in the area that I shall not name), with great service (aside from some waitress name Kelly, everyone was on top of their game all the while being very courteous).... and of course the fact that your elbows might be rubbing with some of the Entertaiment industry's elite, makes Winstons an undeniable jewel for the party crowd that is looking for authenticity! Highly recommended, very friendly staff and music that makes the masses shake their asses!

Cons: Aside from that waitress/server, nada!

I went on a Monday, which was a great choice. The crowd was low-key (not a lot of dancing etc). Great service and the bartenders were actually really friendly. The atomsphere of this place is really up-beat but chill compared to a club. The music was awesome (80s and 90s mixed with popular tunes). Lots of stars if your into that...we saw Orlando Bloom and Nikki Hilton

We're so tired of lame, self important people at the door, throwing their weight around at these "hot for 5 minutes" places. So shortsighted - this place is probably going to have to shut down in a year's time when everyone moves on to the next big thing. My friend reserved a table for her birthday and we got there just past 10 PM to get in. There was no one in line, just a couple people smoking outside. The door man haughtily asks "do you have a table?" He seems surprised when we say yes. After some confusion some dude walks out and gives us the third degree "Who did your friend book the table through?? How many people in your party??" we told him we were guests of hers and didn't know any of these answers. After some mroe BS (and watching them let in 2 sets of girls without any problem) things get heated and we demand answers - it was FREEZING and the place wasn't packed - what 's going on?? They finally let us in after a showdown with the "manager" (doubt he could manage to get his clothes on without help) and have a couple drinks at our table to try to drown out how the night started. After45 minutes they ask us to "do them this favor" and vacate the table immediately, tthey will find us another one asap. We couldn't believe it! I mean, it was out of control how rude these people were. The crowd is nothing special - mostly chicks but not even the conventionally "hot" ones you see out at other hot spots. Everyone is posing and trying to look like they're having a good time, when they're really just there so they can tell people they saw Ryan Phillippe last night - it's beyond lame. We were looking forward to a fun, chill night with friends and honestly, they made us feel like Rosa Parks on that bus, it was NOT ok. They're elitist and the worst part is they don't have anything to back it up - other than the fact that this where Lindsay Lohan likes to order her "diet coke" this week. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else, WINSTON'S IS HORRIBLE!!!

I was a big fan of the Dime and when I came to Winstons I was hesitant about it. But when I went last week I was more than impressed. It reminded me exactly of cool New York City bar and I immediatly felt at home. The manager was more than accomadating with a table, we sat basically right away. The vibe was fun and upbeat and the crowd had a lot of energy. The DJ was playing everything from rap to old school 80's. If you look around its everyone from agents, to actresses, to finance guys.. great crowd. But I definitely loved the place, my friends and I all agreed we need to come back. It's the perfect escape from the lame Hollywood scene.

My boyfriend and arrived around 8:30pm on a Wednesday night. It wasn?t too busy but all the tables were reserved. We asked the waitress if we could sit at one of ?reserved? tables for a drink and she replied to go ahead and sit down, no ifs ands or buts. We ordered a cosmo and a dirty martini. After 10 minutes of twiddling our thumbs, (we should?ve ordered from the bar) the drinks finally came. The dirty martini tasted like pure olive juice. My boyfriend very politely asked if he could have a new one. After being told that ?maybe he shouldn?t ask for a dirty martini, she returned, 10 minutes later and handed him the same drink! Not wanting to return the drink a second time and wait another 10 minutes, we drank our sub par cocktails when the manager, came up and asked us to get up and leave because the table was ?reserved!? We told him that the waitress had told us unconditionally that it was ok that we sit there but he was unphased. My boyfriend agreed to leave the table and asked politely if we could finish our drinks. ?NO? we were told because this particular table was reserved and needed to be vacated immediately. (He actually stood there and waited for us to rise). Unbelievable!! Terrible drinks, bad service, poor management, overpriced and rude. Save yourself the trouble, walk a block down to Bar Lubich instead.

I've been doing the Dime for years and finally made it over to Winstons. Had a great time and recognized a lot of faces. Great down-to-earth crowd with a Hollywood twist. Lots of girls so that's a good thing..ha. Line wasn't bad when I went....9:30pm. But when I went out for a smoke, the line was long. Saw Rashida Jones and Kirsten Dunst. Very cool.

I?ve had incredible experiences since I started coming to Winston?s. I moved from Hawaii in search of a place I can depend on 7 nights a week and this is it. On busy nights, you may have to wait a bit, but that?s fine because the place isn?t that big. The doormen have always been friendly to my crew. It seems that many of the negative reviews are people bitter that they weren?t treated favorably. I just don?t understand it. The bartender bought me a drink after someone spilled mine the first night I went there. Now I know the staff pretty well. The owners are always around to chat about things. When I asked why they have bathroom attendants, they told me that the bathroom was being made a mess of and that people feel safer in bathrooms when someone is in there. That satisfied me. Now they know my first name. I think this place will be around for years. And for the people complaining, lines are a part of nightlife. I go to other ?regular? places like Jones, The Dime, and Bar Lubitsch, and there are lines there as well. I should be there tongith!

clearly the reviews and my opinion is enough for any intelligent individual to see what a lame place this is. remember people, this IS NOT NEW YORK. we live here for a reason. it's like a bad episode of s*x and the city. male h**kers walkin the streets, gay p*rn theatre, then this place. it's lame. won't last.. i am going to send this page to the owners somehow. they are fools if they don't read this stuff.

I've heard from several friends and reviews that Winston's is the antithesis of the normal LA club scene; getting in isn't a problem, door people are friendly, accommodating, etc. My friends and I (three guys, one of whom is a concierge at a Hollywood hotel) arrived at 9:45 pm on a Thursday and were told by the cocky doorman that we would be waiting "a while". When I asked how long a while was, he responded, "can't really say". We proceeded to wait for twenty minutes at the front of the line, watching as a host of people filed out and no one was allowed in. When I asked how much longer, he flashed a "reservations list" (that included 5-10 names) and told me they were booked solid and had to give priority to the reservations. He then proceeded to tell me if I couldn't be patient that I should "have a good night" in a dismissive, combative manner. I calmly informed him I didn't appreciate the manner he was speaking to me and he threatened to "make me move" if I didn't.
Winston's was allegedly the LA answer to NYC nightlife but its hardly surprising segue to Teddy's/Hyde guest list BS ensures that its days are deservedly numbered. I encourage anyone interested in going to avoid the elitism and go to Bar Lubitch just down the street. You walk right in, much more room, better music, and you don't have a power-tripping doorman whose fragile little ego feeds off of standing in front of a door on Santa Monica and Genesse trying desperately to maintain the illusion of popularity by making decent people wait in a line.

Pros: None

Cons: Door Drama, Arrogant and Aggressive Door Guy

I keep hearing this is a laid-back, cool bar. You go at 9 pm, the door guy tells you to come back at 11, that there is a private party. When you come back at 11, there is a huge line and they tell you that you cannot get in unless someone who owns the club have put you on a list or invited you. I asked "are you saying this is a private club" and he said no. Seems like a lot of people are getting the run around from this club. What gives?

When it first opened, I loved this place. Exactly the laidback, yet somewhat stylish bar experience I'd been looking for ever since I moved from NYC. Everything in LA was just too sceney and fake - Winston's was a welcome respite.

But not anymore. I went there last night and it has gone from a laidback bar to a pseudo nightclub complete with overdressed wanna-bes in faux fur collars and indoor sunglasses.

Door policy? Aside from the line that didn't budge for 30 minutes, they let myself and my friend in ahead of the guys in front of us who'd been waiting patiently.

Instead of the indie music that I'd experienced on previous visits, the DJ now spins what sounds like Jock Jams, that or "music I listened to at frat bars in college" complete with Like a Prayer, Springsteen and cheesy hip-hop (and not the good old hip-hop).

Need I go on? There's now BOTTLE SERVICE... casual vibe, that is not. Hence, the groups that bypass the legions waiting outdoors to go straight to their table.

Oh yes, and bathroom attendants.

Why can't bars in LA attempt to be different instead of joining the pack of trying-too-hard night spots that will soon be passe.

This was truly a disappointment, I loved it when it opened and there's not a single reason to go to Winston's now.

I've read all about how this bar has "no velvet rope drama" outside...yet the 3 or 4 times my friends and I have tried to go (early in the evening too I might add), the bouncer always tells us there's a "private party" going on... come on, what's the deal?

We went there on a Saturday night around midnight, we stood at the door for 30 minutes trying to get in which made no sense because the lines were sooo short and people were coming in and out of that place when we finally got in it was this tiny little bar smaller then my studio apartment. The crowd was lame and the music was worse.

I went to Winston's on a Monday night and was definitely pleased with the crowd and atmosphere. The place is dark and very New York, with low booths lining one wall and a long bar against the other. It's definitely trendy right now, but the club was a lot less fake-LA than most places - the place was more casual, and people didn't seem to have as much of an agenda as elsewhere in Hollywood. It was also much easier to get into, and there was no line - and we easily found parking on a side street. It's a crowded bar and great for mingling. Winsont's is pretty small though, and the dance floor is tiny, so if you are in the mood for a real nightclub, look elsewhere.

Pros: vibe, people, drinks, easy to get in

Cons: too small, not good for dancing

We showed up around 9pm on a Friday to discover that the bar was closed for a private party until 10:30pm. The door man was polite and told us that we should come back. We returned at 10:30pm to a line where a different door man, not so polite, told the crowd to go away, and that if we were lucky and there was room after 11pm that he would "try to accomodate everyone." We've already learned they won't accomodate us on a Sunday. Eventually, we are going to stop trying...

went there on a Friday night.-vibe was cool, not very packed. service was great-no LA attitude. crowd is kind of weak and the the DJ is way too loud- this is a LOUNGE not a dance club. the floors are so slippery, that the waitress almost fell and I slipped and stubbed my toe on the cast iron bottom of the table (watch out if you wear high heels). the bathrooms are pretty.

cocktails are strong and huge and well priced. seems like a cool place-good for singles.

we will definitely return.

I gotta tell ya, I was a big Dime fan. But I really think Winston's takes it to the next level. The crowd is extremely hot, the staff (including the friendliest door policy in LA) is super friendly, and the DJ is great. Everything down to the old-school tiled bathrooms is stylin in this place. I've been there about 5 times since it opened and have not had a bad time yet. It's bigger than the Dime, but still gets just as packed, so prepare to push your way through the crowd. If you really want to be comfortable, get there early and snag a table.
