Gold Medal Wine Club

★★★★★
Unlike other wine clubs, we don't choose wines based solely on our palate preferences. The wines featured in each of our 6 Club Series must meet strict selection criteria that includes multiple medals from major wine competitions, and high ratings from national wine publications such as Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, Wine & Spirits, and Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate.

This is how I manage to keep up with my wine-snob friends: I subscribe to the Gold series (least expensive) and get two bottles that they've never heard of, and that are terrific. When I really really like one of them (occasionally we run into a white that falls outside the styles that my wife likes), then I can order more at 40-45% off. If you can afford it, go for the Platinum, Diamond, Pinot Noir or International series. In every case, the wines are from small, family-owned wineries, but they've won awards or been highly rated. (Once in a while, I get a bottle where the winery has produced so few bottles that they haven't bothered submitting it -- and those are always great.) The packaging is excellent, the bottles themselves are wrapped in tissue with a bow, so they're good for gifting (better be a really deserving recipient, or one who will open it when you bring it over), plus they come with tasting notes, background on the winemaker, and even recipes.

I imagine I'm like a lot of people when it comes to wine: I like many wines (okay, I like to drink), but love rarely. And I am reluctant to spend $20 or more on a wine I don't know, and worry about what wine to bring to friends, some of
