Having been to only one other cajun place a few miles from here (you know who I mean) I had little else to go on. My husband had the etouffe (sp?) which he loved and I can't even remember what I had, it was that good. May consider going again, maybe the fusion just doesn't work for me. Deserves a second chance. Hey, at least they're open late.

Pros: Great interior

Cons: So-so menu

.

My first time there just a couple block from my work place hahah... thought is a great place to lounge haha but I tried Prawn in Garlic Noodles OK really $8.88 little portion. Atleast put some crab meat or lobster hahah because the dish looks too plain...expected more!

I have been around Gumbo Jumbo since they first opened. Their crawfish is rich in flavor and not overly cooked like some places. The jambalaya is bomb! with delicious Cajun sausages and wonderful spices. I have had everything on their menu and would have to say, I like them all. Don't leave without trying the beneits.

My favorite crawfish restaurant is located on market street in san jose...called gumbo jumbo! parking is a hassle at times but once you come in and try the crawfish and corn..it's all worth it. it may be a bit pricey, but what kind of crawfish isn't? the only downside is the environment of this place..it's a little too high-classy looking...almost to the point where you don't even wanna get down and dirty with your food.

the decor is nice and the music was right on point. the service was a little slow but they were nice. the food was not the best I ever had nor the best in the bay area, it is decent, my wife however thought that the smell just made her sick. My mom eat a few bites and decided that was it. wife said that the mushrooms tasted like washing detergent. It is truly fusion but don't know if I'm ready for this new style.

Pros: nice atmosphere

Cons: the food

The place is really nice. The walls are covered in plaster in many colors, and the table settings are very cool. The lighting is moody. It feels like a date or dinner party kind of place.

The food was good. It is definitely new orleans style food. We were looking for soul food, so it wasn't what we wanted, but it was good. The fried catfish is wanting in spices. The crawfish wontons are FANTASTIC!

The service was lacking. The guy who served us, spoke so softly that I kept having to ask him to repeat. He didn't ever offer us drinks and we had to keep asking for water refills. The food took a really long time to come out. There was a lady there who wasn't dressed like a waitress, so I am assuming she is management. She was great and kept coming back to make sure that the waiter hadn't messed up, which he had each time.

Will definitely give it another chance. Just don't bring your kids.

Pros: Appetizers and Dessert Great! Ambience Fantastic.

As a Texan native, I've been waiting for a restaurant like Gumbo Jumbo to hit the Bay Area Cajun scene. While not necessarily true Cajun to the core, it fuses Asian flavors very nicely with that of the Louisiana Bayou. The restaurant's decor is very tastefully done with a trendy vibe, so that you don't feel like you're eating in an outhouse but in the gradually revamped downtown San Jose scene. The service here is attentive and cordial; I appreciated that the servers gave you your space, especially when you were savagely sucking crawfish heads. And the crawfish here is a HIT with this Cajun lover! It instantly transported me back to memories of crawfish boils during summers in the Texas heat. I highly recommend the garlic sauce and SPICY. You will not feel your lips- or your face for that matter-afterwards, but your taste buds will definitely be awakened. Their blackened catfish and garlic prawns noodle are also must tries- actually everything from the menu looks appealing- and best of all, the prices are extremely reasonable for the quality and quantity of the food you get. I live in the City, but will definitely make the hour plus drive down here again and again to taste what else Gumbo Jumbo has to offer
