I love this place. The food is great. The atmosphere is wonderful and the staff is so nice and friendly. We had a Department holiday party and the owner came out and greeted us. Such a nice guy. They also did a fund raiser on the courthouse square for the PAL program and again the food was soooo good that I had to go back that very week.

The Red Lantern is a fun place to go eat! It has a asian fusion twist to their menu. I recomend the Crab Fried Rice. That is awesome. They have a full bar with a great drink menu. I will definately revisit this place.

We have visited the Red Lantern several times, and found the food to be fabulous and innovative but the general noise level overwhelming. Drunken bar patrons were yelling so loudly that we couldn't talk at tables on the upstairs level and be heard. Service was poorly timed--our waiter was bring our orders before we had even been served pre-dinner martinis! This place has a lot of potential but needs some shaping up.

Small Plates with Big Flavors at this surprising new Downtown Redwood City spot. I recommend this place for the atmosphere service and quality food, especially the ingredients they are very fresh! It is not your typical Asian place; the chef mixes cuisines from Singapore, China, Thailand, Phillipenes, and way more! There aren't any really appetizers and main courses, everything is kinda the same size (like Tapas, but Asian) so I would recommend varying your dishes and sharing with friends. Cocktails and full menu also available at the bar if you don't want to wait for a table. It is kinda small so I recommend making reservations for a Friday or Saturday night. They do have a website too for more info.

Pros: Good Food with new flavors, great atmosphere

Cons: Kinda small can get crowded

Red Lantern is Redwood City's smaller version of NY's Tao restaurant. Cool, two-story layout with high ceilings, great indirect lighting with three 3 big hanging red lanterns, bamboo and Buddhas etc..Atmosphere is tops. Asian fusion mix is typical for this kind of restaurant. Poke appetizer is great. Their version of Shaking beef (Cambogee Beef) is solid but not remarkable. Japanese style green beans were a bit heavy on the sauce, but still tasty. Very attentive service. A welcome upscale alternative to make you feel like your in the city. Also right next door to the new movie theater.
