The College of San Mateo is a beautiful campus with a small, private college feel. Its only drawback is the somewhat minimalist architecture that is often inappropriate for its current use, or fairly crowded and showing its hard use and age. However, substantively one could not ask for a better institution fulfilling its original key function: to provide all community youth with the opportunity for an excellent education at minimal cost, but especially for deserving poorer children who otherwise would not be able to afford the cost of college. CSM prepares the academically gifted students for entry into world-class academia via UC admission preferences for transfer students. CSM's professors and instructors are MOSTLY steeped in their chosen academics, but MANY are imminently approachable as top rate teachers and mentors with an obvious enthusiasm for the student's achievement and learning. Students and profs alike create a positive atmosphere on campus, and we are proud of and grateful for our "MONUMENT COLLEGE". *

*(a monument to a time when most cared about their neighbors and were happy to assist those in need of a helping hand, especially for seed money which could lead to a bountiful harvest for all).

I went to this college for my online courses. And its because of online courses, I have to attend a mandatory orientation during the night. The buildings are too far from each other - I dont mind that. I just hated their very dim lights. If you happen to walk from Building 32 to 36, there are lights around but not bright enough because there are trees around. I wish they will install more lights. And as for their parking, they plenty but you have to find your way around the campus.

The campus is very large, but the parking lots allow more then enough parking. The class rooms sizes allow for one on one time with teachers, as well as, helpful studuy groups.

This is a nice Junior College campus with plenty of courses to take. The facility is well kept and the price (as most JCs) are cheap compared to the Universities. The people are upbeat there and I've had little trouble with getting classes in the past. I'm not concentrating to get any future degrees at the moment, but if you're planning to go into a State or UC system, I hear the units are often transferrable.

The best thing I like about CSM is the proximity to my home. The campus location is drop dead gorgeous. There are breath taking views of the San Francisco Bay and surrounding mountains. Deer can often be seen grazing on the campus as the area is kinda wild.

CSM is not too far from the San Francisco watershed whose land is guarded very tightly and kept wild because it is the source of water for everyone in the Bay Area. There are views of multimillion dollar homes from the northern part of campus as well as some short hiking trails.

I have a BOG fee waiver so CSM is not expensive. I only have to pay for books. The teachers are good. They do their jobs professionally and are knowledgeable in their respective fields. If you come here to get an education you will receive your money's worth.

In my opinion there's nothing special about CSM. I have never heard anyone praising their nursing program and when I was in High School everyone thought of CSM as a "springboard" for getting into UC Berkeley.

The library is large quiet and beautiful, however, people have expressed concerns about potential health hazards of asbestos.

The best thing going for this school is its location. It is in the beautiful area of San Mateo where the weather is always nice. The campus is very nice and very affordable. I think it is pretty comparable to all of the other junior colleges in the bay area. They offer a wide varirty of classes. The instructors are very profesional and are always willing to help. Good school. And you can easily transfer to a 4 year university. Their cosmotology program seems to be one of the best around.

College of San Mateo is a very large campus for a community college, and offers a variety of majors, and certificates. There a starting point to transferring to a four year college, or just getting more work experience. Some professors offer a lot of hands on education, however some just seem to just not offer much, besides a robotic teaching style, without any recourse for students needs. As with any school, learn about the teaching staff, to pick out the bad apples from the good ones. The value that you receive here is great, however just be careful who you give your educational dollars to while you learn.

San Mateo is a very beautiful city and the campus reflects that. Its a small campus in the heart of the city. Parking is great and level of education is very good. Its actually a small campus which is really nice because it is easier to sign up for all of your classes. I took a course in computer science here and teh instructor was very knowledgable. We learned alot and had alot of fun too. Great expereince. And its affordable too.

This community college is located in the hills of beautiful San Mateo. The campus is always kept up nicely and the counselors are always looking out for the students needs. There are a wide variety of classes one can take here. The teachers are very knowledgable on the topics that they teach and if questions arise most are very intrigues to help you through.

College of San Mateo has a very lush campus with nice grass, lots of trees, and hilly walkways.

I'd say this is one of the better community colleges in the Bay Area. The class offerings are diverse and many students from this college transfer to the University of California (UC) education system. They offer many evening classes and tuition is less expensive than state universities. There is also public transportation available if you commute to the college.

As many of us know, there are many education budget cuts in California and the community colleges tend to get hit the hardest. If you can support the community college system, and education in general. Though a mind is a terrible thing to waste, a mind with no classrooms to nurture it is even more terrible.

PROS: Great community college to start off in then transfer to a UC. Good instructors that know there stuff. Bright students with a willingness to learn. Clean campus with diverse population.
CONS:

For $26 a unit you can't go wrong. The professors here are excellent, especially in the science, music and english dept. The small class sizes mean you get lot's of personal attention and get to know the profs well. The professors here are exceptionally helpful and friendly, and are dedicated teachers, as there's no research being done here. There are free one on one tutoring sessions offered below the library, which I found very helpful. Parking is not too bad, and this is a nice small peaceful campus with lots of fountains, trees and wide open 70's style architecture. The library is especially nice with large floor to ceiling windows. This is a very good junior college campus, conviniently located just off of Hwy 92. In addition to offering solid academics they also have some fun eclectic classes like the Combat Robot Building Class, where you get the full use of the machine shop, a blacksmithing class, an art welding class, and the campus has its own astronomical observatory. Pretty cool.

PROS: excellent teachers
Small class size
Combat Robot Building Class
CONS: not much class selection
