ive drive by this little neighborhood cafe many times but decided to finally stop and give it a try today. the food was very good. homemade pastas, good lattes, friendly service, however the place was quite empty, but i think this place deserves a visit.

We have been going to this wonderful restaurant since it opened and have NEVER experienced anything but excellent food and service. This place is amazing. I especially like the rissoto, chicken marsala and steak. Everyone we've told to go has had the same experience.

I, sadly, must agree with the reviewer of 6/2/2008. I have been going to Bella Roma religiously since it opened, and just adored the place, and its owners. It was so quaint and friendly. Then the LA Times review came out and it clearly went to their heads. Since then the food has consistently gone down-hill, the portions have become significantly smaller, and the service has become sub par, YET the prices have gone UP UP UP (fathom that!). The last straw was when they clearly botched an order of mine and the chef/owner flatly refused to admit to the error. This is how a loyal patron is treated (one who has sent countless people to his restaurant?!?). May I suggest some humble pie be consumed soon, otherwise I fear you'll go out of business -- and, the business has indeed been dwindling since the Times review, more and more every day (one would think this would bring back a more accommodating demeanor, but I guess not). I will continue to go periodically, as it convenient, but my recommendation for the owners is as follows: Come back down to earth, and return to a customer-satisfaction oriented goal, otherwise, we?re gone for good as well.

I've often relied on Citysearch user reviews for restaurants, and they've almost never let me down. This was no exception. I saw the reviews for Cafe Bella Roma SPQR here on Citysearch, so I recommended it for a friend's birthday dinner last night. It was a risk since none of us had been there before, but the risk paid off! We all had a wonderful dinner, and the birthday girl in particular loved the food! (She had the whitefish -- a recommendation from the restaurant owner.) We had a prosciutto thin-crust pizza and fried calamari as appetizers -- both were good -- not amazing, but satisfying. For dinner, I ordered a salad with pears and goat cheese and a spaghetti frutti di mare (seafood). I thought both were terrific -- flavorful, big portions, pasta nicely al dente. Service was a little slow at first -- there were two guys serving about eight tables -- and there's a lot of street noise from Robertson, but you get used to it quickly. Also, they don't have a liquor license, so you have to bring your own wine -- but they'll provide glasses and open the bottles for you. Notwithstanding the aforementioned street noise, the atmosphere is charming (the tiny patio is partially enclosed so you don't actually SEE the street, you just hear it). The raspberry custard we all shared for dessert (with a candle on top, for the birthday girl) was yummy! And the reasonable prices ($16 for my entree) make this an excellent value! I would definitely go back!

Very disappointed with this visit. We have been semi-regluar to Cafe Bella Roma. We previously enjoyed the food and service and had thus decided it would be a perfect place to hold a birthday dinner. This time around- we were treated to shoddy service and sub par food.

We made reservations for seven people and came by early in the day to drop off very nice wine to be opened and decanted specifically an hour before our reservation to enjoy with the meal. The chef had assured us. We arrived on time and were seated. The wait staff seemed confused that we had brought wine in earlier and had no recollection of us. After much fumbling around by the wait staff- they produced the wine still in its bottle- having just been opened.

The night went downhill from there. They completely botched our orders- appetizers, entrees and dessert, brought us dishes we didn't order and instead of taking responsibility for their mistakes tried to make it sound- in fact insisted that we, the customers, were confused. We were, by far, the largest party at the restaurant that night and, one would think, that would be able to assure solid service. The food wasn't cooked to order and I'm beginning to suspect that while they advertise the finest ingredients for the finest dishes- much of their food is pre-made and frozen. Needless to say- it was a huge disappointment- especially for what was supposed to be a special occasion. We won't be returning.

This place is such a gem! I've never written a review, usually can't be bothered to; but both times I've dined here have been such wonderful and enjoyable experiences, I thought it only fair. First time was with a date who introduced me to the place, and the second was my birthday dinner for a party of 17. Service has always been charming and impeccable, the food absolutely delicious (there were moans all around) and the atmosphere very cozy. Chef Roberto came to visit with us at the end of the meal, which just sealed the deal. I love hole-in-the-walls, and Bella will definitely be a fave restaurant I'll be returning to over and over again.

I ordered take-out at this cozy, neighborhood restaurant and was really impressed at how good it was, even re-heated. The service was so friendly and helpful, as I also bought coffee beans, recommended by the owner and ground to perfection. It was my first time trying it out and I will definitely come back and dine-in. For soccer lovers, they air Italian soccer on Sundays.

My friends and I met for dinner at Cafe Bella Roma last week. The decor is lovely and the atmosphere is cozy. I felt like we were at a friend's home. We were warmly greeted by the hostess/waitress (chef's wife).

The food was excellent , starting with bread and spread (and balsamic vinegar and oil set up at each table if you prefer). I'm more of tried-and-true type of person so I opted for the lasagna, which was fabulous and I ate it all! For dessert, I had the chocolate souffle which is AMAZING (so much so, one of my friends ordered one to go for her neighbors)!

Wonderful dining experience!

My husband and I were very impressed with this restaurant. They let us come in past closing time due to a large dining party that was still eating. The chef and his wife couldn't have been friendlier or more welcoming. The bread and olive spread was wonderful as was the spaghetti bolognese and chicken milanesa which came with mashed potatoes, spinach, and polenta. Since we were in Italy last summer this restaurant brought back memories of many wonderful dinners there. We will be going back to this restaurant often.

If you thrive for an authentic Italian food you must ?taste? this place out! The personable staff, the cozy environment, and the chef?s wide Italian smile would take you to Roma in a split second. Me and my wife have been huge Italian cuisine fans for many years and have visited over 150 local restaurants. We have to tell you this place has the freshest and the best home made pasta we have ever tried. The whole place has the aroma of freshly cooked pasta (they cook it in-house every day and you can tell).
I had a chicken salad and my wife had linguine. I have not tasted a juicier grilled chicken breast in my life. The beats and the dressing are an authentic European touch to the salad, and how fresh everything tasted at 4p.m. on Sunday is still a mystery to us ? these people must be growing their own produce in the back.
Don?t make us start on the deserts; we have vowed that we will try every single one of them? the list long. One problem! This place is hard to leave, so allow yourself some time for the experience.

I absolutely love this place! I was looking for a romantic italian place for my boyfriend and I to celebrate his birthday and I could not have asked for anything better. The food was incredible and the pasta was fresh (if you who have never tasted fresh pasta you will immediately taste the difference. The first time I tasted fresh pasta was in Italy and this is the only Italian restaurant I have ever been to that makes it). Great ambiance and the service was great. Be sure to ask the owner's wife about the story of their restaurant. It is very cute. The perfect place for a date. This restaurant is now a Los Angeles staple for me and I will return whenever I can.

Cafe Bella Roma is a delicious addition to the neighborhood! We are so excited to have such a wonderful authentic Italian cafe so close by. Even if you are coming the distance it is well worth your drive. We enjoy the family style dinners and the welcoming owners Roberto and Lisa. They make us feel right at home and their homemade pastas keep us coming back for more. If you have never experienced the flavor of pistachio gelato than save room for dessert. This cafe is a real gem!

Cafe Bella Roma is about as unpretentious as a restaurant can get, located on a non-descript part of Robertson Boulevard, next to a synagogue and a dry cleaner etc. But once we got inside we were delighted with the homemade pasta -- the bolognese was particularly good -- the tasty lamb, the fresh fish among other dishes. The service is friendly and extremely personal; chef Roberto and his wife Lisa come to your table and chat; they both seem genuinely concerned that you're happy with the food. We've been there several times already and each time has been delightful. Among the special treats: orange and grapefruit sorbets. (They don't have a liquor license yet so you have to bring your own wine, but the corkage fee is very reasonable, only $4 a bottle). You'll feel like you are being served a great meal at a friend's house -- but a friend with exceptional skills. It's a real treat, go in now before others discover it.

It is AUTHENTIC Italian food.
It is a beautiful place for breakfast, brunch and wonderful romantic or peaceful diners!
I went for diner and breakfast and just loved it!
Diner was amazing. Our group of 6 friends showed up and had a set up menu. The Chef Robert made a diner "a l'italiana": ANti pasti, pasta, and main course. The food is excellent and like in Italy!
You can tell that they use only great and selected products. The proscuitto, the salami, the mozarella are just awsome. Not cheap flavorless products!
I felt like I was in Italy all over.....
Just bring your wine. No wine on the menu (yet?)

Wonderful neighborhood restaurant with terrific, varied, and very fresh items. My wife always judges restaurants by the bread they serve. If they put care into that, they'll put it into their food. From the first moment on our first (of 4 trips to Bella Roma -- and they've only been open 2 weeks!), we knew we were in for a treat. Warm toasty bread is served with a delectible fresh tapenade that puts you in the mood for the great things to come. From hand made pastas to hand tossed individual pizzas, great salad to tasty entrees you can't go wrong.

Opened in the old Ma Cuisine location just south of Cashio on Robertson, it's easy to miss if you're not looking. DON'T miss it! Personable Chef/owner Roberto was trained throughout Europe and it tastes that way. Care goes into quality ingredients from the prociutto to the picatta. And into making the experience worth repeating. The kids love the sandwiches. My vegatarian son (the only veggie in the family) even asked if they'd make him a caprese&pesto sandwich. They did without hesitation and it's his favorite place to go now.

Even the coffee is amazing. Organic and locally roasted, if you're a fan of espresso or capuccino, it's worth a stop there for that alone.

They don't have a liquor license yet, so bring along your favorite bottle of wine and enjoy it on the romantic country/European patio for a next to nothing corkage fee.

But SAVE ROOM FOR DESSERTS! The chocolate souffle with molten indulgent center is served with a scoop of some of the best gellato in the city. The tiramisu is light, full of flavor, and the perfect treat to top off a meal. And they even have a "dessert spaghetti" for the kids. Vanilla gelato is hand squeezed through a pasta press, layered with raspberry "marinara", then topped with fresh shaved chocolate "parmesian". Fun. Funny. And delicious.

Once you find Bella Roma, you'll never forget it.
