In Short
With treadmill views of Petco Park's home plate, Padres fans might be tempted to trade in beers and hot dogs for a pair of running shoes. Dubbed San Diego's first "urban fitness retreat" (think of a rock star's country club), FIT offers more than just the best work out equipment in the world. With three instructional rooms for martial arts and boxing, spin and mat classes, members also enjoy ping pong games, personal training packages and an internet café workspace. Not to mention the swank pool lounge and yoga deck offering direct views into Petco Park.

Key Points

  • Top Notch Personal Trainers
  • Group Fitness Classes
  • Spa Like Ameneties

The Inside Scoop

  1. Parking - FIT validates parking, a real luxury in this part of town, for up to three hours (two hours on Padres' game day).
  2. The Extras - FIT is still a work in progress; an outdoor terrace overlooking Petco, rooftop pool and cabanas, internet lounge, tanning salon and upscale fitness boutique are al amenities to debut in coming months.
  3. The Extras - You don't need to pack your duffle bag with towels and beauty things; when you're a member of FIT everything down to razors, blow driers and beauty products are included in the membership fee.
  4. Fun Fact - Be sure to bring your iPods, charged or not; state of the art equipment have iPod docks with larger LCD displays so patrons don't have to reach to their arms or disturb their cardio in order to listen to tunes.

Fit Athletic Club is shady

by Mariann C.

Great trainers and equipment. The management is kinda shady... for example charging your credit card for water when you didn't go to the gym that month because you were out of the country. on top of a monthly membership fee the charge annual maintence fee too.

gym

smaller athletic club downtown close to the gaslamp. I used to go here but I moved out of the city. I much prefer smaller clubs like this one to huge chains like 24 and la fitness

this place rocks! I was excited to finally see the interior and was wondering if it was going to live up to its expectations. It definitely does! This is where the serious athletes come to train. Beautiful gym, beautiful group x rooms, hot bodies!

Fit Athletic Club

by Anonymous

Finally! Fit has opened and it truly is all that was promised. While we have yet to experience the Group Fitness classes that are anticipated, the club, itself, is absolutely top of the line from a functional and luxury perspective. The gym design is urban industrial chic- the decor and overall aesthetic is comparable to the hottest night clubs in San Diego, yet totally unique. The fitness equipment is top of the line and the four fitness rooms (including specialized Yoga and Martial Arts rooms!) are equipped with everything that you could imagine- including night-club quality sound systems.
This is the premier gym in San Diego- no question.

Best Capeoira Class in San Diego

by Moranga

The athletic club is a great plus for the downtown life. The interior is top notch and I love the equipment. It has such a great modern feel to it. The 2 best classes are: Capeoira with Bruno and Butts and Guts with Connie. I have taken several Capeoira classes and this one is by far the most challenging. The music is
from Brazil and he teaches a completely different class each time. Expect to burn at least 700 calories. You might also be soar for a day or two. Best instructor I have been to in a long time. Butts and Guts...this class is also very challenging and she will work you out like you haven't worked out before. I was soar for days and my hanmstrings were worked to the max. The yoga is pretty good, as well as th cycle classes. The pool is pretty small and just opened so not sure yet. I will need to swim a few laps and report back. Those are the +. The drinks are pretty expensive for a health club, so bring your own water.

Pros: top of the line equipment, everyting is brand new, and outstanding classes

Cons: expensive water................evian is about $4.50 each.

Great Gym

by 524sd

I've never been one that enjoyed going to gyms, but when I heard of the yoga / pilates, group classes, and martial arts classes that Fit would be offering, I signed up. Now my fiance and I never want to leave the gym! The yoga / pilates and group classes (capoeira!) are fun and a great workout (martial arts classes haven't started yet). Between the classes, machines, and free weights, it's impossible to get bored. I can't wait until the pool, hot tub, and steam rooms are up and running. The atmosphere is great and the staff has all been very friendly and helpful. I love this gym and am glad I joined!

Pros: Classes, Friendly Staff, Upscale atmosphere, Wide variety of things to do

Cons: Being charged full membership price before all things are running (pool, hot tub, steam room/sauna, martial arts classes)
