I bought my sister a kick-*** microscope from the GIA. Because she's used to these first of all since she went to school there, but also since it's so conveniently close to school once again. For students, they offer discounts too!

For myself, I found lots of fun stuff like ice making molds for my fridge, in the shape of cut stones: like rounds, marquise, emerald, etc. I founds lots of books that helped me with my private study of the stuff too since it's all very interesting.

Ask for Vivianne, she helped me with everything! Very nice and a pleasure to talk to, she even advised me on which diploma frame to buy for when my sister finishes her studies there. Definitely a worthwhile visit.

Don't miss the rotating exhibits at the nearby Mikimoto Rotunda at the school itself. Last time I visited, I saw work not only by the Graduate Jewelers, but a rough colored stone exhibit, direct from mine owners! Big, I mean BIG chunks of raw stones like tourmalines from the Pala Mines, and the ever so hard to find Little Three Mine material, spessartite garnet. Ohhhhhh, ok, I'm wiping the drool off my lips now :)

I took a diamond grading class at GIA. It was an intense 2 weeks. The lecturers knew diamonds very well, and they did an great job of imparting the knowledge to the students. 90% hands on learning with diamonds and microscopes. I scored well, and passed, thanks to the good teaching. Met my expectations and more.
