Located in Mandeville, the Groundwork Bookstore is home to textbooks and general books alike. Most teachers opt to have their books sold there rather than the bookstore, and at cheaper prices.
4Makes me feel good when I get books from here. It's conveniently located, and conveniently supplies books to many UCSD classes. They also have great deals often. Worth a glance even if you're not taking classes.
4Unfortunately, few people not part of the UCSD community know about this place or venture onto the campus to visit it. Even the people who shop here for text books generally do not browse the general stock. They're missing out on a great general selection of books on a variety of political, historical, and cultural topics. Most of this stuff you will not find at the chain stores.

This great book store is one that more students need to take advantage of and visit. Located in the Student Center next to Mandeville Auditorium, and the Mandeville Coffee Cart it is a great place for textbooks and regular ones. Usually writing courses such as Muir Writing or MMW will have their books old here instead of the bookstore (if you're lucky). Their prices beat the bookstores in text books so long as they can carry them (not all bookstore books are sold there so be sure to check both places out first if you plan on purchasing them on campus). They do carry a great selection of other books ranging from ethnic studies to history to economics and they also have a great discount book cart out front. The employees are always helpful and courteous so if you have questions you can ask them. It does get very packed with long lines during the first week or two of a new quarter so be sure to know what you want and get there early to get it or else you'll be waiting outside for a while. Highly recommended otherwise!
