I wouldn't recommend playing at Skinny's to any up and coming rock bands in the LA area. The venue is a dump, meaning this is the worst of the worst dive bars in the area. Sure, the location is ok, but the way the club is run means that you get too-short sets by bands, and promises by promoters to bands that they will receive decent treatment. The old adage is that you get what you pay for, and Skinny's is very, very cheap. However, most of the bands are unprofessional, the staff is rude to them and their patrons/fans, and complaints by everyone abound. There are so many other bands in LA and the surrounding area that there's no point in going here. You'll have a much better time anywhere else. Go ahead and check it out once, but you'll learn that there is no reason to return. I'm surprised this place isn't closed already. It is certainly the worst place I've ever either drank or performed in LA, that's for sure. Playing on the streets of Lankershim is probably more fun than setting up and performing here, or traveling here and drinking. Might as well go to the Whisky. At least the bands are better, and the drinks steeper (in alcoholic content).

Pros: Location

Cons: Management, Venue, Staff, more but not enough room to list

Skinny's Lounge is a small club with one room, one bar and only two bathroom stalls for women. It's not a problem if the crowd is moderate, then you can sit and drink at the bar, dance, go to the bathroom and most importantly, walk. On Saturday nights, it gets so crowded that all those things mentioned is nearly impossible we had to stand near the bathrooms because there was no place to stand!! And it was only 11PM, clubs tend to get more packed at 12PM. I didn't like it, even if it was cheap drinks and good music, I just hate crowds.

Based on reading the reviews here before I went I fully expected to be handcuffed on my way in the door and wind up in jail. I am happy to report that did not happen. Security, management and the bar staff were respectful and attentive all night long. Drinks were priced well and music was fun. Obviously I can?t speak to the issues others had here in the past. Based on my experience it?s a fun place to spend a Saturday night and I would go back again.

So, I don't know about the rest of you, but now that I'm 25, I'm beginning to be a bit "over" the whole Hollywood scene... at least all the effort that goes into it. I'm tired of getting all dressed up, standing in a super long "guest list" line in my stilettos, paying 20 bucks just to get in, and then hoping that the DJ doesn't stink... not to mention, if I want some jack and coke, I'll be lucky to leave with a 75 dollar bar tab... now at SKINNY'S, you get the whole lounge vibe and dance party of Hollywood with a more down-to-earth crowd, cheap drinks, hot bartenders, and a guaranteed amazing DJ! On top of all that, on Thursday nights, the DJ spins all 80s (for the most part), which I happen to be a huge fan of! Basically, the valley has needed an awesome club for decades now, and I think I've finally found it!!! I've been taking my girlfriends there every Thursday for months, because it's super fun and effortless! My hat goes off to Skinny's, thanks for bringing Hollywood to the valley and making it so much better <3

Cons: none!

I have been going to Skinny's with a couple girlfriends nearly every Thursday since June and I don't plan on stopping. It is a swank place where they pour a great drink and have a large dance floor (I'm partial to dancing the night away). Thursday is "80's night" but if 80's isn't your thing, don't let that sway you. The DJ is ridiculous! He never leaves his post - constantly spinning 80's tunes into 90's and current hip hop/r&b. And if my sources are correct, he's starting to spin on Friday nights (no theme) starting this month so check it out!

I've read some negative stuff about the weekends and while I can't vouch for the long lines, crowding, etc., that I've read in other reviews...over the last 7 months I've met 3 of the doormen and neither my friends nor I have ever had a problem.

In fact, Skinny's is like my 'Cheers'...they know me and I know them and I'm always glad I went. That makes for a fun, comfortable environment. The bar staff (males and females) is hot and friendly, and DJ Vox takes requests.

Bottom line: Check it out for yourself! It's a laid-back local spot with great energy and music.

Wow, this place is AWESOME! I have been to Skinny's a few times recently, last on a Thursday night and was really impressed with pretty much everything...the location is great because I am from the valley, and it was very convenient to have such a "nice" place so close by. The layout is awesome- I first walked in and was blown away at how nice, yet low key the place was. All the staff, including the bartenders are really friendly! Eric the bartender is awesome. He was serving up some strong drinks for me and my friends all night. And last, but certainly not least- the music!!! I was blown away at how awesome the DJ was! I mean, I couldn't believe I was in the valley at a random lounge- this guy on Thursday night is really great! He played mainly 80's tunes (I think that is the theme on Thursdays), but really knew how to keep the vibe going all night long. I definitely will be back to Skinny's and highly recommend checking it out!

If you're looking for a Hollywood type spot, but don't feel like driving over the hill, then this is it. Great lounge vibe with a dark but warm decor. The bar is huge and the bartenders were hot and attentive. Even the owners were very polite and approachable, which is rare. Good mix of locals and outsiders. This is definitely a destination bar. Nice dance floor and good music. Great place to meet girls and the crowd is definitely improving. The security staff is definitely working in a good ratio. I highly recommend this joint.

From the outside you would never expect what you find inside...a fairly large, yet intimate, dark lounge vibe (with a full size dance floor..which is rare for the valley). I have been there several times during the week and there always seems to be varied promotions every night of the week, from comedy to live band karaoke to an 80's night on Thursday (my personal favorite). Great bartenders and reasonably priced drinks and a cool local vibe. I know it gets crazy busy on the weekends and there seems to be a more "weekend amateur" club vibe...I see the line out the door when I drive by. Friday and Saturday nights are NOT my style but i'm sure it would be a great time if your into fighting the crowds...I just prefer the more relaxed weekdays at Skinny's. Overall, an amazing place to go get your drink on with some really cool promotions and super hot bartenders!

I am a North Hollywood local & would go to Skinny?s once in a while. It was a pretty cool chill spot back in the days. I hadn?t been there in a long while until this past weekend and let me tell you it was the worst bar experience EVER! Skinny?s is "trying" to become "Hollywood" with enforcing a dress code?ha-ha!! don?t make me laugh? Its North Hollywood! & they now charge at the door (all they're missing is valet!). They make MEN not woman just MEN wait in line for a LONGTIME. i was already inside the bar and asked the security guard if there is anything he can do to let our two males friends in, the asian security guard straight out told me...with an attitude "WE'RE AT CAPACITY...WE ARE NO LONGER LETTING MEN IN?ONLY WOMAN" uh if you're at capacity you shouldn't let anyone in...It?s called DISCRIMINATION!! The security guards are extremely rude, short tempered, and they believe on resolving situation with violence. They are unprofessional, uneducated, have no common sense on how to handle simple situations, and will put you in handcuff FOR NO REASON (read the reviews below?its happened to other people in the past). So next time you?re thinking of getting your drink on at a local bar go to CODAS around the corner on Magnolia and Van Nuys.

its sad that i have to do this..i've never had to write a review, but after what happened this past saturday i feel that i have to say something..skinny's has become a 'cool spot', something that they weren't before..they're trying to change the crowd by not letting hooded sweaters or untucked shirts in, give me a break its north hollywood!! and if you're a guy get ready to wait in line for a long time. i've been there before and the crowd is not great at all. The security are very rude and they mistreat ALL theyre patrons, male or female!!! we were looking to have a good time that night for a friend's bday, but it became the worst night that i've ever had because of security.. my sister and boyfriend were mistreated/beaten for no reason by the security!!!! they have no sense of judgement. skinny's is one of few the bars that we have in noho, and because of that night i can never go back..So thanks to the meat heads that are handling the door, we will never go back..so this is a way to warn people not to go there!!! not worth your time whatsoever, unless you dont mind getting manhandled by security even BEFORE you enter the bar. DO NOT GO, there are plenty other bars around the area.

I've been to Skinnys on almost every night of the week at least once, and I have to say that I dig the week day crowd better. It's way more chill and has a local feel. The staff is super cool and I have never seen a fight break out there during the week. I personally, think that weekends misrepresent the bar and it's normal clientele. It seems like amateur night and the place is packed to the brim with them!! Week days at skinnys are where it's at!

I went to Skinny's for the first time on Saturday night - one of my friends lives in walking distance, so why not?
I'm used to paying $10-$20 to park when you party in Hollywood, so this was a treat. Drinks are cheaper than hollywood, so that's a plus. Bar staff was really cool, not like the attitud you get in hollywood bars. We danced all night. DJ didn't mix, but music was fun.
The best part is that we could stumble back to her place instead of drive. We had a great time and will be back. Complaints - really hot on dance floor

This is the worst place in the history of bars. I came there with my husband on a Friday night. Then I left my husband at the bar to go to the bathroom. Immediately one bouncer started picking up on me. I told very politely that I'm not interested but he kept grabbing me so I pushed him away. After that he grabbed me and kicked me out of the club. To make things worse he completely refused to tell my husband who had my purse with the keys from the car and phone in it. I kept insisting for him to read more >go and call my husband. I was so upset I made a rude comment after that he handcuffed me and called the police. He lied the police that I almost broke his nose and asked his friend to be a witness. I ended up spending 12 hours in jail and with bail of 20000 we had to pay 2000 out of our pocket. Now me and my husband are trying to press charges. We talked to the owner of the club but after reviewing the cameras and admitting that I never touched the bouncer he basically told us that it is not his problem. There are going to be civil and hopefully criminal charges against this bouncer and this place. The owner already told us that his lawer is going to make sure we wouldn't be able to prove anything but hopefully the truth will be uncovered in the court. So if you are a hot girl my advice to you is to stay away from this place if you don't want to end up in jail for rejecting a bouncer!!!

Interesting how "thisizreal" neglected to mention other details - let's see!
Would this be the same woman who one security guard had to remove from the MEN'S restroom,
who then proceeded to strike another security guard in the face, which resulted in her being handcuffed in front of the bar?? hmmm
Buck 10 or not - when you strike someone, regardless of gender, then you had better expect repercussions for your actions! Personally, I'd say she got off easy, as the security guard exercised restraint and merely handcuffed her. Thus displaying that - DUH - you don't go around slugging people.
Chicks think that they can just slug guys without any consequences, because guys aren't supposed to raise a hand girls - maybe one of these days, she'll learn her lesson when she's drunk in a club - slugs someone, then gets knocked out. Only time will tell.
In my experience at Skinny's - the security guys have been quick to remove unruly people, and have actually helped me out with some jerks on a certain occasion, so if anything - people should feel safe there. It's just a shame that when some little "slugger" decides to undermine authority, and she' s reprimanded for it - that we should look at her as the victim.

If you have NOTHING else better to do, I'd suppose you might stroll by. The club looks nice online, the name definitely doesn't represent the crowd because you woulda thought you were standing at KFC with all the big girls. The D.J. sucked - NO mixing skills...I wondered who even told the guy "hey you should totally pursue being a D.J." I couldn't even believe people would actually wait in line on Lankershim after 10pm to go into this place. Seriously C- at best.

Okay! My friend and I had NO idea what to expect and ventured out to Skinny's last night to try out LIVE BAND KARAOKE with Mark and his band! WOW! We were pretty much expecting a dive kind of bar but what we got was a really nice, clean updated lounge (it TRULY was lounge-adjective worthy!) with great upholstered benches, leather cylinder seats, tables, and a friendly group of clientele!

The drinks were reasonable but the big draw, let's face it, was Mark and his band! Crystal fronts the band as the vocalist with Mark on Lead Guitar, Ken on Drums, and Brad on Bass!! A CHILL group of musicians with warmth and vitality! Not only will we be back, I've booked my 50th with these guys! They ROCKED the house!

The only thing I wish they had was some kind of munchy--but as long as you eat before going, you're cool!

Thanks for a great time!

Cons: No munchies (Just remember to eat before visiting!)

I love this place. The staff is great. Whether it is Eric, Nikki or Mike at the bar or Freddy and George at the door, I am always greeted with a smile and a hug.

Weekends get a little crazy, but the muscle in the front (Freddy, George and Dre), are not only nice to look at, but keep the place under control.

I WENT TO SKINNY'S FOR THE FIRST TIME FOR MY COUSIN'S B-DAY ON AUG.08.08. MY COUSIN AND I STEPPED OUTSIDE TO MAKE A PHONE CALL, THE MEXICAN SECURITY GUY WAS EXTREMELY RUDE.
HE ASKED MY COUSIN AND I TO STAND TO THE SIDE IN A VERY RUDE WAY & I NICELY TOLD HIM HE CAN SAY IT A LITTLE NICER, HE THEN SAID HE WONT LET ME BACK INSIDE AND I TOLD HIM I DONT CARE & HIS RESPONSE WAS F*** YOU! THERE WAS ANOTHER ASIAN SECURITY THERE TRYING TO PUT HANDCUFFS ON A ME. THE SECURITY IN THE FRONT WAS VERY VERY DISRESPECTFUL! I HAVE NEVER IN MY LIFE COME ACROSS SUCH LOW CLASS AND UNEDUCATED PEOPLE WORKING AT A BAR. THEY PLACE WAS FILLED WITH UNATTRACTIVE PEOPLE. I WILL DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TO GO TO THIS PLACE. WASTE OF MY TIME.

Skinny's is a really cool, Modest bar/lounge in NOHO. Great looking room, dark setting but with great se$y lighting.a dance floor (on the small side) but doesn't k!ll the party, a VIP party room, love the friendly bar tenders but cant stand the door men. Cool music (DJ & Jukebox and I think occassional live acts) and good pours. My good friend DJ's Thursday nights for 80's night...well worth it. Best of all, it's in stumble home distance to my house. I'll be back. although this past saturday night was a let down..it was one my girlfriends birthday and half our party waited for an hour just to leave.

Pros: DJ, Drinks, and people

Cons: line at the door

There's no cover and plenty of parking behind a motel. It's really easy to get to and crowded. My only complaint is the music. Since this is dance club, I've got to talk about the music. They will play mostly old school music on a Saturday night, mix in a few current rock or hip hop hits, and then go right back to old school Michael Jackson. I can't stand it. You want the party to be hoppin'? Take some lessons from the current L.A. radio stations (Power 106, Kiis FM) and play that stuff. Not this old school mess. I'm sick of it. Oh and depending on the night you go, they may or may not have tap water for you to drink. They may say they don't have any and then try to sell you super expensive bottled Fiji water for like $4 or $5.

Regardless of my cheesy title line Skinny's is a fantastic bar up in NoHo. The entire staff is totally cool from the chill doorman and gregarious Bartenders to the easy-on-the-eyes cocktail waitresses. I went there recently for a Saturday night out and had a blast dancing, socializing and enjoying some moderately priced drinks...that is a nice change of pace compared to the frequently over priced libations found in many lounge/clubs in LA. The two...yes two DJs were spinning a great mix of tunes that ranged from 80's alternative dance tracks to the latest pop faves. The crowd was energetic and totally friendly...another nice change from the sometimes snooty patrons found in many LA establishments. Go there and have some good clean fun!

seriously one of the best bars/club i've been to yet. the ambience is relaxing and beautiful. the bartenders are friendly and down to earth....and serve great drinks without having to pay $10 to $12 bucks per drink. it actually has a reasonable size dancefloor. the cocktail waitress' are also friendly always quick and diligent when getting your drink.

the only cons are the music: the dj does not know how to mix...we were dancing to britney's song (one of her newest) and i swear it was mixed so it was 10 minutes long! next please.....he/she also would mix it up from new hip hop/pop to old unpopular 90's music. and also, parking can be a hassle.

but all in all....great place for after work drinks or just to hang.

This is the best place, probably in all of LA.
I've been to a lot fo bars/clubs in all of L.A. and Skinnys has to be one of the best if not #1.
The staff and managmenent are amazing, supuer nice... you wont get that whole cliche wait in line outside, buy a bottle to sit at a table ordeal... very relaxed, great music, dance floor, reasonable drinks worth every penny... and clean. Just overall a great place to go.
I give this bar a A+++++++++!
We will be back soon again for sure!

Skinny's is a really cool, unpretentious bar/lounge in NOHO. Great looking room with a cool Brassai photo above the bar, a dance floor, a VIP party room, a friendly staff and a no bulls..t vibe. Cool music (DJ & Jukebox and I think occassional live acts) and good pours. I met one of the owners, an English guy who told me they're doing Spoken Word nights, Independant Movie nights and other special events. A bar with a brain. Whew! There was a birthday party going on when we were there and they were having a blast on the dance floor. Best of all, it's in stumble home distance to my house. I'll be back.

SKINNYS IS AWESOME!

My friends and I had a party there last weekend and we rented the back /VIP room - it was the best time ever! Everyone had a blast, the DJ played awesome dance music and the drinks were strong! Decent drinks, music, dance floor - what more could you ask for?

Also, Eric is the most awesome bartender ever!

I highly recommend it!
