I needed a rental car because my car need to go into the shop. I shopped around for the best price and found Basic Car Rental. When I arrived the quote came out to a couple hundred extra more a week, up from the original quote I received on the phone. The customer service was extremely unprofessional and the secretary/front desk associate whatever she is, was a complete and utter waste of space. Of course, I refused the shady offer and dealing with that stubborn mule left me with nothing but a headache. Based on my experience, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Honestly It is Really Hard for me to Get all this OUT! I get sick to my stomach about it- I do NOT know how any of these guys sleep at night... EACH and EVERY ONE of them KNEW EXACTLY what they were doing to me, how they were ripping me

This was by far the worst experience I had with any business of any kind....I found out the hard way that this is just a local car rental place started by an auto mechanic who obviously needs a lesson in professionalism and customer service. If you think the price you get on the website is the price you pay, think again. The price I had quoted to me from my internet reservation was doubled at the time of the reservation due to all the "add-ons" they had "forgot" to mention. I was so desperate and late for my meeting in San Diego that I just paid what they asked (which unfortunately is what they probably hope for in all their customers). These guys are scam artists of the worst kind:

Scam #1: I had reserved a compact car from Friday to Sunday on the internet two weeks in advance. When I got to the rental place, I was told that they didnt have any compact cars left and that they would have to give me an intermediate car, but also charge me the extra price for it. Can you believe that? I absolutely refused to pay and demanded that they honor the reservation I made TWO WEEKS in advance. They never gave me a clear answer on that but later found out that a "compact car was just returned"

Scam #2: When I went to pick up my car, they had informed me that they do not accept returns on Sundays, although my reservation clearly stated that I was returning the car on Sunday. They told me to return the car on Monday, but they would have to charge me for the extra day. After informing them that I dont need the car for an extra day, they still insisted on charging me. After I showed them my confirmation stating Sunday and threatening to complain to the city gov't, they complied and said they would make special arrangements to have someone meet me at 5pm on Sunday to pickup the car

Scam #3: Knowing that if I was one minute past 5pm on Sunday that these scam artists would charge me an extra day, I literally rushed back from San Diego to make it back in time only to see that no one was there at 5pm. So I waited for 45 minutes and then just left the car there in their garage, but they didnt have nowhere to put the keys. I didnt want to leave the keys there because I didnt trust them at all, so I returned first thing on Monday morning to return the keys. What did they do? Yep, you guessed it, they charged me the extra day claiming that they never made a deal with me to return the car on Sunday. I threatened to report them to the police and after spending 2 hours literally yelling at the manager on the phone, they finally gave in.

The car itself? Well magically, a compact car was available to me once I was ready to go. The car was a Ford Focus that was completely banged up. The side panel was falling off and the car was struggling a lot for the entire rental period. Really felt like I was going to be stranded on the 405. And I was so scared to drive the thing, because I knew that if there was the slightest scratch or bump, that they would probably charge me for the entire car. I was nervous the entire time I was driving the car and this shouldnt be anyone's car rental experience.

Conclusion? Do yourself a favor and pay the extra few bucks to rent from a reputable car rental company. I found out later that Enterprise is literally located two blocks down the street. Wish I knew that in advance. If you think you're saving money from these guys, think again. In the end, you'll probably pay more than Enterprise anyways with their scams. FYI: When I went back to close my contract, there was a girl from Germany who was also being told different stories and being scammed. I told her my story and she realized the same thing was happening to her, so she didnt sign her contract and went to Enterprise instead.
