My wife went in here because her psychologist switched her depression meds and she began to feel suicidal/homicidal within 2 days of switching. She was self-admittied but still sent to the NICU. So many things went wrong that I don't even

I went to Aurora, and if you are on a 5150 they have to lock you up by law. I have been in their inpatient and outpatient programs. I didn't need a "Holiday Inn" I need mental health. They changed my life.

My comments relate to the physical facilities, not the professional services, which are too early to comment on.\n\nFor the kind of money Aurora is getting for each patient, I think the facilities are shockingly subpar.\nFor instance in the AWOL wing there is no comfortable place for visitors to meet privately. A patient here is unable to exercise. 'recreation' consists of coloring with crayons.\nThe facilities are worn and in need of major renovation as well as housecleaning.\nPatients cannot go outside except once an hour when they are allowed to smoke on a small concrete fenced area. If someone just wants to go outside for the warmth of the sun and some peace with nature, they are out of luck.\nEven the picnic bench outside has a bench on one side only, so you can't sit across from another person. Very uncomfortable for visitors. We had to stand outside.\nIt is like a prison. While I understand the need for security due to flight risk, nontheless that does not excuse the shabby rooms and visiting space, the cheap furniture, the uncomfortable flow of the place. They should budget for an interior designer/architect who rethinks the space. A better flow and ambiance would do much for the patients here. There is no reason to have cheap motel 6 furnishings. The wing has all the charm of a free clinic. A pleasant atmosphere is positive for those suffering from depression, as does exercise. It is well known that exercise can be as effective as drugs when it comes to counteracting depression. They should allow for some sort of exercise. Even prisons provide for this.

Pros: Great care I received Aurora/shout out to Senior Unit

.

My daughter has been to this place twice. This is a prison sentence not a place for them to feel better about themselves. I do understand the need for security. I do not understand them taking her off of medications without any consultation with her regular psych Dr or, even a phone call to home to ask permission on what psychotic meds you are giving my child? Unacceptable! Shame on you Aurora!!!

Pros: Open Beds

Cons: Horrible

It was a frightening experience. We went for outpatient help for our son who was mildly depressed. They basically held him prisoner using a 5150 on a very liberal interpretation of the law. We fought to have him released with no luck.\n\n For 24 hours of captivity, he was ignored and received no help. He was completely sober when he went yet they still tried to dope him up on detox medication. To make it worse, they charged our credit card $3500 + $300 for a 5 minute doctor visit.\n\n Stay Away From Aurora!!!
