The atmosphere was great. We loved the ambiance, and the live music. Our waiter was so nice, and looked like a young David Bowie. While we were seated for an early dinner on Valentine's day, he suggested moving us to the most choice seat in the restaurant. The hummus was terrific as well as the dolmades (grape leaves stuffed with some sirloin/herbs, etc.). We had a bottle of French bordeaux (St. Emillion '06 I think) that was great and about $30 or so. Their prices are very reasonable, and we will definitelyl be going back.

Pros: Food, ambiance, and service were impeccable

This place was at one time an absolute favorite restaurant of mine. I have not had Greek food as good as this anywhere else, and the atmosphere is usually very calm and relaxing. I was especially impressed with their Greek salads, leg of lamb with orzo pasta, and halibut in lemon butter and capers. However, management changed a couple of years ago and the softly strumming mandolin player who was often there was replaced with an obnoxious belly dancer. The restaurant was just to small and intimate for this kind of a thing, and it really detracted from the whole experience. If belly dancers aren't your thing, try it on a weekday.

I expected a satisfying meal (as I'm almost never disappointed with Mediterranean food), but Christaki's succeeded in not only being far and away the best Greek I've ever had, but one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. The calamari was light and crispy, not too heavy with a batter that didn't overwhelm the calamari. Also started with the lemon-chicken soup which was outstanding. I love lamb, so I tried the grilled lamb chops and I have to say, they were the most perfectly prepared lamb chops I have ever had. My wife had salmon, which was also quite good (though you'd have to try pretty hard to mess up salmon).

The restaurant was surprisingly empty for a weekend evening, though on the way out I realized that many tables were seated outside. They had a classical/spanish style guitarist playing inside which added to the cozy authenticity of the place, and it was clear that it was family run as the owner was our server and voices were raised when he went back into the kitchen.

Bottom line, I've only been there once (I live in the Bay Area) but it was one of the best overall restaurant experiences I've ever had.

Pros: Incredible food, atmosphere/music, authentic feel

Cons: Not "cheap" (though not incredibly expensive)

The second I walked in, the service and warm atmosphere made me want to come back. Then I tried the dolmas! I was sold. I have taken many people back to try this place out.

They have the best Greek food not only in Orange County, also in LA. It's small and cozy, and the service is always friendly. Make sure to make reservations for weekends.
