Here's a business you do not want to deal with unless you absolutely have to!

Some key features that will make you crazy:

1: You can't log in to your account unless you are actually on the Sonnet network - i.e., if you own a second home in the Sierras, and want to check your account, you have to actually come to the Sierras to do it ...

2: Once you do log in, note the accounts webpage hasn't been updated since 2004. And surprise! If you try to check in to see your last statement, it shows only usage and tech stuff, not your actual billing statement. No way to see what you actually owe .. .

3: Worst of all, Sonnet does not accept credit cards like other internet companies, so you can't pay them on time automatically if you travel a lot.

In my case, they recently cut off my service without so much as a courtesy call or Email just two weeks after I received their bill in the mail. This had never happened before - normally, any lingering balance due showed on the next statement, and would be paid in full next time around. They said this was a "policy change", but I seriously think it had to do with dissatisfaction I had expressed two months ago.

4: Don't plan on paying them by ACH debit either, because their usage limits are so small that you will go over the limit and owe extra at least 50% of the time, if you actually use the service. There is no consideration given from months in which you actually use no bandwidth at all, either.

5. EXPENSIVE!

I was so hopeful that Sonnet would be a good internet option, and enthused that it is a family owned business. I quickly found out that any benefit in that would depend on the family values in the quotient, however. I found both tech support and main office to be snide and uncaring about anything except how their business model best suits them, not caring about user friendliness or customer relations at all.

You would expect any "tech" business to keep up with the times to survive against mega providers, but in this case, you would be wrong.

If it's available to you, I recommend the big corporate giant. Better price, better pay options, better access, nicer people. NO, I WAS NOT PAID TO WRITE THIS.

Due to limited choices for high-speed in our area, we chose Sonnet and signed up for the required year contract. It was generally quite reliable, which we appreciated. On the few occasions there was a problem, they were generally quick to resolve it.

The frustrating thing about Sonnet is that your use is metered. Paying as much as $70/month will limit your use of just streaming audio, such as Pandora (we love to have it on during evening chores). Watching Netflix Instant is out of the question, since even 1 movie a month online will use half the allowance for a $70/month plan.

The icing on the cake was when we informed them we would not be renewing our contract due to their extremely high rates and our disappointment concerning the metered use. We were informed of our cancellation date and were surprised when they shut off our Internet 5 days early. When we called to inquire about the connectivity problem, they admitted to shutting it off early and were openly upset about us choosing another service provider. Thankfully they agreed to pro-rate our last month's bill.

We do love to support our local businesses, but we were extremely dissatisfied with Sonnet's terms and oftentimes their customer service. We are much happier with our new provider. I suppose if you only required Internet service for checking email, Sonnet would not be a terrible choice, but if you require more I would definitely recommend another provider.

have been with Sonnet networking for about 7 years and they have been helpful with upgrading our equipment and we have had very few down times for the use of the computer lines. We have wireless at the house and love it.
