When I quit my fancy pants stylist for being too pricey, I wasn't sure I would find anyone else as fabulous. I was referred to Preston at Acme when I needed hair/makeup assistance for a photo shoot. He was professional, efficient and so sweet! The images were beautiful, so I made an appointment for a cut. He listens to what I want, gives realistic suggestions when I don't know what I want and makes me gorgeous before I leave the chair. He's consistently on time and gives me his total focus during our appointment. I love him and I'm sure you will too!

What a terrific experience! I had been looking for a place to get a decent haircut for a while and was referred to Kimberly by a friend. She was amazing! She was very accommodating to my schedule, gave some great input to fixing what was on my head; and she did quite a terrific job. After a long day at the office i was worn out and needed a drink, she must have sensed it because as if by magic a cold beer manifested in my hand, I hadn't said a word!
I am in the hotel industry, so I am very keen to service. ACME has some of the best service I have experienced while getting a haircut. The atmosphere is very relaxed, and the staff is willing to work with you to get the exact look you want. Kimberly is terrific, I am sure she is representative of the entire staff.
Being a guy, I am a bit timid in salons as I feel I have a simple look and don't need all the excess equipment and attention. Again, I felt perfectly comfortable and was not pressured to spend lots of money on services I don't need. Great spot, two thumbs up, I'll be back!

I had my hair long for quite some time; my last short hair cut was in High School. (Just so you know, that was quite a while ago : ) I finally took the plunge, had Holly cut my hair and I LOVE IT!! Holly has cut my hair several times and I love it every time she cuts it. She's precise and spends the time needed on your hair. I even recommended her to several people I work with and you can bet your boots I wouldn't have done that for fear of back lash, knowing they could easily find me if they didn't like their hair cuts. Every one of them liked what she did with their hair..... I get excited every time I'm getting my hair cut by Holly and highly recommend her to anyone for any occasion..... She's sweet & professional and you won't be sorry!

Being a Stylist myself you can imagine how picky i must be. I went into Holly for a cut only as a trial, i wanted to see if what i had heard somebody say was true? They were right, she was AMAZING!! Hands down the best haircut i've ever had! I will definitely be making a trip back. I can't wait to see what she has in store for my color!!

I have been going to my old stylist for 12+ years. I was very nervous about trying Acme but after all the reviews I decided to give it a shot. I was going on a job interview so it was very important to have a good cut & color. Holly may not have the volume of reviews here but that girl is the BOMB. She picked a fabulous color that reflected my natural coloring better and the cut and style were perfect- very modern and suited me perfectly.
Her price was very reasonable and she was fun &sweet. I got a very good vibe from the place and I`m glad I took the leap of faith- so far nothing but compliments! A++++

I had recently gone to a very well known "hair colorist to the stars" in West Hollywood for what I thought would be amazing blonde highlights. Instead I received attitude, and the worst blonde color I have ever had. It was literally orange and canary yellow! I left crying and called my best friend for some advise as what to do and she said go to Kimberly in San Francisco. I immediately called Kimberly and booked an appointment. I was so appreciative that she worked me into the schedule seeing that I didn't even call until after 3:00pm on a Wednesday. When I arrived to San Francisco 2 days later,Kimberly analyzed my hair and came up with an amazing formula to color correct and give me what I should have gotten at the other salon. I could not believe my eyes when Kimberly was finished! She literally removed all the orange color from my hair and in place added gorgeous creamy blonde highlights and caramel lowlights and she did everything without further damaging my hair! Kimberly is a perfectionist and a true color correction Queen! She is so sweet as well as all the other stylists I came in contact with at Acme. I am so GRATEFUL to Kimberly for her amazing skills and many years of experience! Kimberly's a keeper forever! The trip to San Francisco is totaly worth it...

I now know what it's like to get a true hair cut from an artist. Kimberly does not just cut hair she transforms my head into a piece or art. For weeks after she cuts my hair I get complements on how good it looks. I am not a good looking guy by far but after I see Kimberly I get a great styled hair cut that makes me look better.

I have spent literally thousands of dollars over the years in search of the perfect hair color. I went to dozens of top-rated stylists and no one seemed to be able to manage the look I knew was possible! I even flew myself to LA to see a stylist at Fred Segal that a magazine cited as having done Gwen Stefani's hair! It seemed like no matter what I did or who I saw, my hair only became more damaged and the color never exited the realm of plain or average; to add insult to injury, every stylist would charge be double because it was always considered a color "correction" (and I have great hair)! Then the heavens parted and light shone down and angels sang and Kimberley the Color Goddess appeared and saved me. She gave me the color I had always pictured in my mind's eye, the color I had dreamed of, but had given up on. I now have the most beautiful hair and get compliments from complete strangers virtually every day. Everyone agrees that it's the color I was meant to be. She's specializes in blondes and her prices are refreshingly reasonable! I will never, ever go to anyone else ever again in my life. I could not possibly say enough fantabulous things about nor ever fully express how amazingly talented she is. And, as if that weren't enough, she's also a wonderful human being and a true joy to be around. Always so warm, genuine and positive. She is the best hair stylist in San Francisco, bar none, and a girlfriend. I recommend her without reservation.

I have been seeing Kimberly since she was at Gsquared and really can't say enough about her natural talent, ability to communicate to me what would work best on my hair type and just plain AWESOMENESS! She turned my bland dark hair into something in a high fashion magazine or celebrity rag. She was able to layer (not highlights, she did something different) two colors in subtle tones to give my hair lots of luster, shine and movement and get it healthier than what it was before. Her cutting technique is also great--not too structured and laborious, but cuts as little hair to get the greatest effect. I know, it sounds like a miracle, but basically that is what she does.

I recommended her to two co-workers who recently had botched highlight jobs, and she fixed them up pronto.

I decided to try extensions from Acme b/c I was very unhappy with the ones I had done at a different salon; I'd only had them a month, and over half had fallen out. Ariane offered me a free consultation when I called, and she explained everything she would do differently so I would like my new extensions more. She chose the perfect colors to match my hair (hair is included in the price, and it's SUCH good quality!), was incredibly personable, co-scheduled me with a colorist, Preston, who did a fabulous job and had me ready right on time, and explained how her micro-ring process would be less damaging to my hair than the glued in ones I'd recently had done.
When my appointment started I told Ariane I only had two hours, and she managed to do my entire head in that time! Her sections were perfect, not sloppy or rushed, and her precise placement of the hair gave me exactly the look I was hoping for-- long, thick, highlighted, and wavy. I will be returning to her for maintenance, and for new extensions in a few months. I HIGHLY reccomend getting micro-ring extensions over the glued "fusion" kind, and am glad she convinced me to- which was nice b/c she charges less for them than the normal glued ones. She is more than just a hairstylist; she's a transformer and a hair artist, and I am happy to be wearing her art every day!

I COLORED MY OWN HAIR AND IT TUNRED ORANGE! I AM NEW TO CALIFORNIA AND DID NOT KNOW WHERE TO GO SO I DESPERATELY SEARCHED THE INTERNET FOR A TRUST WORTHY SALON. THANK GOD FOR CITY SEARCH. I WAS VERY HAPPY WITH THE REVIEWS THAT I READ FROM KIMBERLY AT ACME SALON AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE MY COLOR CORRECTED. I MUST ADMIT THAT I WAS A LITTLE NERVOUS AT FIRST BUT EVERYONE THERE WAS SO NICE AND PROFESSIONAL THAT I FELT VERY COMFORTABLE BEFORE ANYONE EVER TOUCHED MY HAIR.THANKS TO KIMBERLY, THREE HOURS LATER I HAD BEAUTIFUL ASHE BLONDE HAIR WITHOUT A TRACE OF BRASSY OR ORANGE COLOR. Yes, Kimberly is FANTASTIC!! After a year of hating my hair and desperately trying to find a stylist who could fix the color & revive my horribly overprocessed, brittle hair, I lucked out found Kimberly! I walked into the salon with 3-4 layers of different colors put on by different stylists using different products as well as a really uneven cut. I hadn't worn my hair down in months and had started regretting ever dying it in the first place! :( Within a matter of hours, Kimberly had given me a beautiful cut, stripped off all the layers of brassy reds & browns and given me a really soft & natural looking caramel brown with highlights & lots of depth. I absolutely loved it. She also somehow made my hair soft and manageable again, like it used to be before i started dying it. AND, she's a real fun, sweet person to spend time chatting with. So, I got exactly what i asked for, I love my hair again and I will no longer trust my head to anyone else. THANKS KIMBERLY! See you again in a few weeks. :)

I love, love Preston! He is great at trying new styles and really takes his time in doing it right. He is always very friendly and makes you feel at ease. When getting a cut or a color he gives wonderful suggestions and the end result is always fabulous. I have really long hair and it is very important to me that I keep my length, but still get a stylish cut. Preston never fails me. I always get out of his chair feeling and looking beautiful.

I went to Kimberly according to the great reviews here. I came off the chair looking and feeling soo much more beautiful than when I had first walked in. She highlighted my hair according to what she believed would look good on me and achieved the color I was looking for. My highlights look very natural. She is a sweet and genuine person and proved to me that a color specialist really does exist, since I had previously had disastrous results with others. Highly recommened and would definitey go back and refer my girlfriends!! If you want constant compliments on your hair,Kimberly is the one!!

I went to Acme based on these raving reviews and had highlights and a hair cut. The highlights were good -- and the cut OK. The stylists are a bit older here -- and must be experienced based on their age. The whole salon environment is a bit crazy though -- very frentic. It actually made me a bit nervous. Not sure I'll return.

I was recently referred to Lindsey at Acme Head and Body near Union Square in SF. I have had two cuts and 1 color with Lindsey, and I could not be more thrilled. She did an excellent job, was very thorough and detail oriented, and affordable compared to a lot of the salons I've been to. I've already had two friends see Lindsey, and they feel the same way. I highly recommend Lindsey, and plan to continue to see her for cuts and color!

After going through so many stylist here in San Francisco, I've finally found the one who can do my hair right: KIMBERLY G at Acme. I actually heard about her through a co-worker of mine when I was going through a "bad highlights" phase with my old stylist at another trendy and over-priced salon. Considering this was the first time I got highlights, I really wanted the job done right. I went to Kimberly for color-correction help and she really did her best to undo the choppy work my old stylist had done to me. (And you would think for the high price you pay for downtown SF salons, you'd get impeccable results! Don't be fooled!) Kimberly worked effortlessly to fix my bad highlights while managing the results. She took the time to make sure I was comfortable and even explained how the color process works on your hair. I moved to San Francisco From London a year ago and ever since had not been able to find a good hairstylist. I am very pick about my hair and expect no less than a perfect color and cut. After a few bad experiences a good friend of mine referred me to what she calls "the miracle Kimberly" I decided to give it a try and I have to say that I am hooked, Kimberly is amazing she brought my hair back to life with a total color correction and incredible Cut on top of that she is totally cool and made me feel very special, her space is very comfortable and cozzy. Kimberley is awesome. I can't even imagine having my hair touched by anybody but her. She has a sense of who I really am and nails my hair color and cut every single time. All my life I have left salons in tears becasue of what they did to my hair. Not with Kimberley. She is amazing. I get so many compliments on my hair. She is totally flexible with her hours and works around my busy schedule. With 2 kids, 2 jobs, commute, kids sports and an ADD husband, it is very rare that I can truely relax, but with Kimberely and this salon, I actually can relax and enjoy the atmosphere. Love It....

I used to live just outside New York City. My hair stylist there was very good - he was so good that he had colored Uma Thurman's hair prior to a photo shoot for a magazine cover! So, when I moved to San Francisco - I thought I was going to struggle to find a great stylist. I got so very lucky to have found Kimberly. Kimberly used to work at another salon in SOMA, but has recently moved to Acme Head and Body. I am following Kimberly to her new salon because a good hair cut and color is hard to find, and Kimberly provides you with an EXCEPTIONALLY GREAT cut, color and style. Holly has been cutting and highlighting my hair for the last four years, since the beginning of her career. I drive from Sacramento to San Francisco because I love her personality and my hair always turns out fabulous. Ever since she has started cutting my hair, it has been easier to syle and still looks great as it begins to grow out. I frequently get compliments from co-workers and complete strangers when I go out. Holly's highlighting techniques are awesome too - after consulting with me, she suggest a couple of colors that blend well together and give my hair the appearance I want want. You know how you always hear that hair never turns out the way the stylist did it? Well, Holly gave me some tips and techniques for styling my hair and it is still turning out great when I style it. Ask for HOLLY at Acme and you'll be thrilled you did! The salon is great too - very retro and comfortable.

Acme is kind of a blast from the past. The stations are antique vanities that have been refinished to great condition and the building has some character all its own, with huge windows that overlook busy San Fran streets. The staff is super friendly and offers to take care of you from the moment you step out of the elevator. Ask for Holly. She does great hair for a very reasonable price.

I originally contacted Ariane because I had micro ring extensions done at another salon that I wasn't happy with. She met me for a free consultation and explained what she could do differently to give me a better overall look and prevent the dreadlocking problems I was having. She took out my old extensions, and got rid of all the accumulated glue and dreadlocks while she was at it- in under two hours! We chose colors together for new extensions, and they turned out to be a perfect match. The hair she uses is the softest, silkiest human hair ever. It blends beautifully with my own, and stays brushable and sleek- which my last salon extensions didn't. Ariane was patient in working with me to decide on style, length, color, etc., and checked in with me throughout the process of putting therm in to make sure I liked the results. She was very quick- it took only three hours to put in my extensions- but she's as precise as she is fast. I will be returning to her for maintenance, and for new extensions when my current ones need to be changed out. If you're not happy with your natural hair, these extensions are a fabulous solution. I only wish I'd found her sooner!

I needed a cut & color the day before I was going to a convention. Carol was a godsend. I called Acme to check them out for the first time based on the reviews I'd read on Citysearch, as well as the stylists' descriptions from their own website...I was passed from stylist to stylist--who wouldn't prefer to party on a Friday night rather than work?!--but Carol willingly took my appointment. I've been coloring my own hair for over 10 yrs., so it takes a lot to make me spend my moolah on someone else's handywork. If I'd won the Mega Millions jackpot, I would've hired Carol as my personal colorist.

You should remember to ask for the 25% discount for first time customers. (My total was wallet-busting, but she willing worked on my hair from 6:30pm till almost 10pm so I wasn't going to quible about the price--and it was well worth it.) She gave me the price up front, so no surprises and add-ons. And considering the pricing structure of the other stylists, I think the totals would come out to about the same. I even loved the scent of the shampoo & conditioner she used on me enough to splurge on a couple of bottles, too.

A couple of the guys at my office even noticed the change in my hairstyle & color enough to comment, so you know that's got to mean something since guys can be pretty oblivious to all the transformations women go through. I love the way my color shimmers in the sun, like a fire opal. If you want a color that jumps out at people, Carol would enjoy getting you that dream style. And if you just want a color that shimmers, but doesn't shout, she can work her magic on you, too.

I've seen Preston twice so far. First for cut, second for color. Let's just say that he's amazing! First I went in because I had this head full of hair that I had no idea what to do with. I was brave and told him I was a blank slate and that he could do what ever he thought best. I placed my trust in great hands because he gave me an amazing cut that totally brightened up my face! Since he did such a great job the first time, I came in as a blank slate again - this time for color. I just needed a fun change which he delivered! Not only is he talented, but he's one of the sweetest people you'll meet! He has a great way of making you feel welcomed and at ease. The salon itself is fun too. Cozy with a refreshing, funky decor. Highly recommended!

I haven't been here in a while but I plan on going back. I've gotten braids done in the past by their new extensionist, Ariane, and would love to get the micro-ring extensions she does now... I had them done since she last braided my hair and think she would do a better job than what I got. Human hair extensions are expensive, but the way they make you look/feel like a diva for months on end makes it very worth it. Also I like Acme's product lines, and you kinda feel like you have to shop afterwards, since you're already in Union Square...

I have been getting my hair done by Dennis for about ten years. After I found him I have never trusted my hair to anyone else. Prior to Dennis I had many "bad haircut" experiences where I was left very upset. I now know that I can count on Dennis to cut, color and style my hair so that I get nothing but positive feedback. Most importantly, I feel good when he works his magic. I love to watch how he effortlessly handles the hairstyling equiptment without an ounce of awkwardness. One of the best things about Dennis is he is able to do such great work in such a short amount of time. He is more than a stylist, he is an artist. He is also funny and interesting.

Carol was my answer! After getting a bad cut she fixed everything and and then some. She has been my hairdresser for over 11 years. Since she has gone to SF I was thinking about going to SF to have my hair cut and colored. My whole family used her. We were very sad when she left. Carol has great artistic style and imagination! She is always taking new classes to update her knowledge in Styling and Coloring hair.

I was shopping around for a new hair salon in San Francisco and decided to try out Preston at Acme Head & Body, who I heard about by reading the reviews on Citysearch. Well, the raving reviews were quite accurate, as I experienced nothing less than 4 star treatment and service from Preston. He greeted me with a warm and friendly presence and was very quick to make me feel comfortable (the glass of wine was an added touch!) He was a great listener and provided a very thorough consultation of my hair and what I was looking to achieve. I was not looking for a 'yes' person but someone who can offer their own expertise as well. He definitely did not shy away from his own vision and followed though with the final result looking fabulous.
I left a very happy client and even received a thank you card a few days later which is so very personal and professional. My shopping days are over for a new hair stylist because Preston has truly won me over!

I have lighter hair and have been considering going a little bit darker for the fall time, but was definitely unsure about my choice. Preston assured me that it would be wonderful and really bring out my blue eyes. We consulted on the color and he picked out a color that I was extremely excited about. The end result was terrific, I love my darker hair. He even offered to color my eyelashes to really bring out my eyes since my eyelashes are non-exsistant because they are so light. It work perfectly, I was so happy with my huge change.

I had a huge event I was attending and wanted to look smashing. My friend referred me to Preston at ACME. He really listened to what I wanted done to my hair and gave some great suggestions that I extremely loved. The color was beautiful and really complimented my cut and complexion. I adored the cut and to top it off he styled it amazingly and really instructed me on how I could get the look at home. To finish up the appointment he did my makeup - I was really scared to have someone else do it (I am pretty picky) but Preston made me look GORGEOUS! It was very natural and I didn't feel like I was wearing the whole makeup counter. I am definitely going back and having him continue to make me look and feel beautiful! Not only is she a highly skilled and professional stylist, but an amazing artist as well---- from cuts to coloring, from conservative to cutting edge. Her hair product knowledge, suggestions and willingness to lend styling tips also have added to the entire experience I have had thus far. It all began earlier this year when I had the most amazing hair "makeover" with Lindsay. She definitely helped me to redefine my image and ramp up my hair for a new career. Do you like to be treated like Royalty? Then this salon is for you. Preston had some great ideas for my hair. I loved the end result. WOW! He made me feel comfortable and more importantly he made me feel beautiful. I would recommend this stylist for anyone.

Preston is amazing! He cuts, colors, and does hair wonders! He fixed my funky layers in no time at all. I've never put high lights in my dark hair before and was afraid of how they would look. Preston made my hair luminous! He is so much fun! Everyone should use him.

I can't say enough great things about this salon and especially about Preston. He is really, really amazing. He knows what he's doing, he totally puts you at ease (is SUCH a sweetheart) and I've never been disappointed after seeing him. In fact I wish i could see him every day because what he does to my hair is like a miracle. He doesn't use any product on me because I have allergies - he just cuts and drys and it always looks and feels fabulous!!

The salon is perfect. None of the I'm so hip attitude - everyone is really down to earth and nice. Call Preston, you will be happy you did!

Pros: Great vibe, lovely people, talented staff

Cons: Would love not to have to pay $50 for a hair cut, but....for what Preston does, it's worth it!!

I first went to Lindsay just 2 days after having had the worst color/highlight/cut of my life. I'm talking I didn't want to leave the house it was so bad. I was expecting her to tell me there wasn't much she could do...considering I'd just had the bad color done days earlier. Much to my delight and surprise Lindsay informed my that color corrections are one of her favorite things to do and she proceeded to cheerfully redo the entire mess and I left the place feeling 1000 times better with no damage to my hair. Since then I've been back several times and I can honestly say that I've never been happier with my hair. I have been in sf for years and have tried countless different salons and I can honestly say that Lindsay does that best color AND cut...rare to find that in one person. I have straight thick hair and for the first time I actually feel that my hair has some style and isn't just a big dull mop! Thanks so much Lindsay!!!!!

I've got tricky brown hair that would poof out like a Q-tip without the right cut and product. Being in town just for a summer assignment, I knew finding someone that could do a good job from the very first cut was unlikely. I took a chance on Preston after reading a positive Citysearch review, and I'm so glad I did. He listened to what I wanted and worked within the framework of my requests, but while also offering subtly different and better cut then I knew how to request. Highly recommended. Less important but still noteworthy, the salon is a nice space.

I have recently wasted hundreds of dollars on bad highlights in San Francisco and in San Jose. I recently read the reviews on Adrian here on City Search, and I decided to take a chance on my never ending bad luck with stylists. Adrian did a color correction on me and I haven't been the same since. I am actually getting compliments everywhere I go. This is a first! He transformed my dull hair into a shiny beautiful head of hair! For a color correction, I am
getting 2-3 compliments a day. Imagine what I am going to get after a couple more visits!!!!! Thanks Adrian, I feel like a million bucks.

Men's hair is actually way harder to cut than women's hair - I've resigned myself to not ever being satisfied. It's puffy and boring or ugly or boxy. When I find someone like Lindsay who can cut it EXACTLY the way that I want it, it makes me believe in magic again. How does she do that? It's better than I can even imagine it! Now I just tell her to cut it however she wants, she's my style consultant.
Also she's super fun to talk to AND she's cute, which always helps.
ALSO buy the products she recommends - I spent five weeks shopping around trying to find a cheap-o version of the stuff she told me to buy, and I ended up spending a buttload of money AND buying the expensive stuff in the end anyway.

Pros: Great haircut, great experience, great advice

Last year Preston helped me turn my naturally blonde hair that I'd been dying dark brown for a nearly a year into a beautiful auburn hue that I loved loved loved. Now, he's working his magic again by taking my hair back to it's original light blonde state and I'm so happy! He's been there for me every step of the way and he's made sure my hair has remained healthy and beautiful during the few visit process. He's the best stylist I've ever had...he listens to my thoughts and takes them into consideration but also suggests things he thinks would work for me. And to top it all off his haircuts are amazing. I'd reccommend him to anyone and have! I have at least five friends who have gone to Preston and loved him also.

Woooooohooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I finally found her , her name is Lindsay! I have the craziest hair, so ive been told by many a stylist and to find a super nice and fun and talented stylist has been a total miracle. If any one out there is looking for a stylist who is great with curly hair here she is. Lindsay gave me beautiful, dimensional color and the best cut that I can where curly or straight, not to mention the most amazing blow out ive ever had! No one has ever been able to style my hair the way she does. Did I mention she's fun and entertaining as well. Thank you so much Lindsay you have made me feel great about my hard to handle hair. Your the best!

All of my experiences at Acme Head and Body have been fantastic. Every time I walk out of the salon, I feel like a million bucks. My stylist, Lindsay Davis, is one of those unique hairstylists that rocks at both haircutting and haircoloring. She really spent time styling my hair and giving it that "finished" look, which I really appreciated. Overall, I enjoyed the salon atmosphere and I have continued to be impressed by Lindsay's work.
