Astaria, a restaurant and bar, offers an Uptown look and feel in the heart of Downtown San Mateo. Our robust California fare begins with the freshest, seasonal local ingredients. The result is some of the most delicious food on the peninsula. Guests are met with a blend of classic architecture and reassuring comfort. Tables and oversized booths with views of 3rd Avenue rest under 17' high tin ceilings and a thoughtfully appointed interior. Our private dining room can host up to 300 guests. The bar area runs the entire length of the east wall and includes two, seven person booths and bar-style tables. At Astaria, the best ingredients make the best signature cocktails and each season brings new creations. The award-winning wine list is custom fit to our menu as well. Locally owned and operated, we're pleased to have an attentive and vibrant staff to serve Astaria's guests.

Wow

by diane h. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,741

I attended a holiday party here. I have to say the food was excellent and the staff was astronomical. It almost seems like they went out of their way. The prices are modest and I can not wait to go back.

tasty

by Barbara B. | top100 Top100 | Rank: 8

I have been to Astaria quite a few times. The first was for a holiday party and I thought the food was good. When we went back on our own - the food was outstanding. I would recommend it for either a group or individuals.... although the food was really tasty without the group cooking!

California Fare in Downtown San Mateo

by jaqandchris

Astaria has a magnificent selection of wine. My fiance and I were looking for a good restaurant with live music. We found it in downtown San Mateo. The staff is very friendly. The food is fresh and a lot of it is organic. Romantic atmosphere in front and back of restaurant. We highly recommend!

Pros: Fresh, seasonal food

Cons: Very delicious wine

GREAT FUN

by donzbz

HA PPY HOUR AND WINE LIST WERE GREAT AS WERE THE APPS. WE'LL BE BACK FOR DINNER, THE WHOLE MENU LOOKS LIKE FUN. THE AMBIENCE WAS WARM BUT STILL CLASSY, AND THE GENTLEMAN MANAGING THE NIGHT WE WERE THERE WENT OUT OF HIS WAY TO MAKE SURE WE WERE HAPPY. LOOKS LIKE A WINNER.

Pros: SERVICE, WINE

Underwhelming

by sillichick

High marks for ambiance, especially the fellow who sang last night. Service was slow. Appetizers/salads were good, entrees underwhelming. Didn't get to dessert, but the menu choices looked good for that category.

Slooooooow service

by chynnae

We ordered the crab crakes, meze and paella. Everything was fantastic.

Unfortunately, the servers were very slow. It took forever for somebody to come by to take our order. It took even longer for us to get our food. It wasn't just us either - I noticed that everybody else around us was served at a snail's pace as well. Maybe they were down one chef that night? Too bad, because it's the only thing that marred our experience.

Pros: Food
