I attended a holiday party here. I have to say the food was excellent and the staff was astronomical. It almost seems like they went out of their way. The prices are modest and I can not wait to go back.

I have been to Astaria quite a few times. The first was for a holiday party and I thought the food was good. When we went back on our own - the food was outstanding. I would recommend it for either a group or individuals.... although the food was really tasty without the group cooking!

There are so many choices and it's hard to not try them all. The place also has a superb romantic atmosphere. Highly recommended as a dating spot!

Pros: many choices

Astaria has a magnificent selection of wine. My fiance and I were looking for a good restaurant with live music. We found it in downtown San Mateo. The staff is very friendly. The food is fresh and a lot of it is organic. Romantic atmosphere in front and back of restaurant. We highly recommend!

HA PPY HOUR AND WINE LIST WERE GREAT AS WERE THE APPS. WE'LL BE BACK FOR DINNER, THE WHOLE MENU LOOKS LIKE FUN. THE AMBIENCE WAS WARM BUT STILL CLASSY, AND THE GENTLEMAN MANAGING THE NIGHT WE WERE THERE WENT OUT OF HIS WAY TO MAKE SURE WE WERE HAPPY. LOOKS LIKE A WINNER.

Restaurant does not exist. It is gone. The phone number is for the Astaria, a nice enough restaurant, but not the Lark Creek Cafe, which is gone. (Sorry, they have a 100 character minimum.)

High marks for ambiance, especially the fellow who sang last night. Service was slow. Appetizers/salads were good, entrees underwhelming. Didn't get to dessert, but the menu choices looked good for that category.

We ordered the crab crakes, meze and paella. Everything was fantastic.

Unfortunately, the servers were very slow. It took forever for somebody to come by to take our order. It took even longer for us to get our food. It wasn't just us either - I noticed that everybody else around us was served at a snail's pace as well. Maybe they were down one chef that night? Too bad, because it's the only thing that marred our experience.

We went here last Friday night and had a good experience, except for the service. After we were seated, our waitress came to take our initial drink requests and then disappeared, not showing up for fifteen minutes or so. The restaurant was half empty so the slow service was not excusable. The food luckily saved the day. The Organic Field Lettuce Salad with Sundried Cherry-Balsamic Vinagrette and Warm Goat Cheese was magnificent, with the goat cheese blending into the vinaigrette to form a mouth watering combination. The main course, Mom's Baked Meatloaf with Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Candied Carrots, is one of my favorites. The meatloaf was tender to the bite and exploded with flavors in my mouth, bringing back memories of my childhood and dinners around the table at home. Lark Creek San Mateo is definitely worth it just make sure to stay on top of your server.

Pros: Atomsphere, Wine Selection

Cons: Erratic service, Expensive

The menu at Astaria proudly proclaims its American comfort food heritage, but there's a little Mediterranean influence in the paella and the balsamic reduction on the skirt steak. No matter your tastes or price range, this eatery has…
