Don't get too excited. The quality has really gone downhill since they moved to Wheat Ridge. I was a faithful Gordo's customer (1-2x per week) for 45+ years until they moved to the dive on 44th. I'm finally done. Their food is good (not great) one night and terrible the next. Their to-go quarts of chili, beans, etc. are always 3-6 oz short (I measure). They are very inconsistant: sometimes sauce on the (undercooked) rice, sometimes not; portions can vary by 50% for the same item; tomatoes on the tostadas? - maybe; often undercooked or overcooked or cold. Too bad - this used to be my favorite; now I'd rather eat at Taco Bell. The 44th Ave grill has destroyed Gordo's reputation (sorry Lon). Sad.

Pros: Green chili and Rellenos are still the same

Cons: Smells like a cheap dive, full of loud drunks

.

A prior reviewer mentioned their closing. They moved and I have dined at their new location twice this month (January 2009). The do exist on the NW corner of 44th Ave & Wadsworth, about one block west of the Walgreens there. A week ago I had their rellenos, and they tasted like the Gordos rellenos I have enjoyed over the last 20 years at their old location. Today I had cheese & onion ench's, smothered in their red colored green chili. Same flavor I have loved for the last 20+ years. They seem to have moved their food menu into the 44th Ave Grill. So, the venue is a "bar/grill", but the Gordos food is the same that I have known for 20+ years. If you are looking for Gordos, look for the "44th Ave Grill" sign. Inside is the same Gordos food many of us have known for years. The "Gordos" logo is a very small part of the "44th Ave Grill" sign. The food is 100% Gordos & more (they still have the "grill" food the location used (still) has). Gordos lives. I pick 5 stars, as this place has been feeding me for years, and I have loved their food. Nice to have it still be available.

Pros: Same great food, new location

Cons: Logo small, but they joined another business

Actually, Gordo's has move to a new location up north, but they are still a great place for food and drink. The food is average (what you'd expect), but they have "hand tingling" Tequila in a margarita here, more than any other place I have ever been. I've witnessed customers sending the drinks back, because they were too strong! I enjoy sitting outside... watching the sun go down. . I always have a good experience here.

Not much sense in writing a review now I guess, doors will be closing. . .Sunday 09/14/08 will be the last time I will be able to eat and drink there. I've been eating at Gordo's since I was in high school, the w colfax location, prolly before many of you were born. Geesh. . .I'm getting up there I guess. We've had alot of great meals there, sad to see it go.

Pros: Great service, great food and drinks

Cons: Shop early, avoid the rush. Many times waited half hour for a table

.

The Godo's Green Chili, Bean, "Margarita" Burrito. . . a locals tradition! My parents ate them when they were dating in the 1950's. This is ColoradoMex!!

Cons: cold tortilla chips

A friend recommended Gordo's to us and I was disappointed. Seems like Gordo's has a huge following but I am not one of them. Food was odd tasting, not quite right. The saving grace of this restaurant was the staff. They were very cordial and pleasant all around.

We've been going to Gordo's since the 70's and they have been producing consistently great Mexican food. Their tacos, guacamole, refried beans and green chile are unique. Nothing like it anywhere else in town. Service, quality, and prices are unbeatable and well worth driving for.

Gordo's Restaurant is an excellent choice for those new-comers to colo-mex cuisine. The green chile is not overwhelmingly hot due to its abundance of tomatoes, and for those who aver heat completely, their red chile quite tasty.
My favorite selection for a meal, was the Margarita Beef Burrito smothered in green, a tamale w/green, a crispy rellano w/ you guessed it, green, and a guaccamole tostada. Say hello to Lonny when there.
