We went inside and immediately felt unwanted here. The owner was rude to our party on multiple occasions. The food was great, but I won't go back or recommend giving this place your business.

The elk cutlett was tender to the point of cutting with a fork. Everything there is cook to order and you can tell that it doesn't come out of a can. The red cabbage and the salad were awesome. Top it off with some homemade strudel and

I look forward to eating at the Black Forest Inn every time I go to the mountains. I have a tough time deciding between the Elk, Weinerschnitzel and the Liver and Onions. All three are exceptional. A good stout beer, the oxtail soup and the strudel with ice cream round off the meal. I am usually so satisfied that when the mints arrive, I usually grab a few mints and stuff them in my pocket for another day. Writing this review has me drooling...time to go back to the mountains.

I found this Nederland restaurant on coloradotown.com and it looked wonderful! The experience of being in this restaurant is dreamy from the splendid martini's and appetizers to the delectable elk steak, trout and filet that simply melted in your mouth. The service was outstanding the four of us in our party did not want for anything

I've never been to a restaurant where the waiters and owners were so rude and uncaring. DO NOT even think about making any changes to the menu - no matter how small. Service was the slowest and poorest that I've seen in years! The pricing on the dinner menu was ridiculously high, especially considering the poor service!

If it wasn't for the mountain setting and the building itself - this restaurant would surely be out of business by the way it treats its customers.

I was with four other people and we all agreed that we would NEVER, EVER come back.

I write very few reviews, but I am 65 and have never been treated in a restaurant like I was today. There were two employees, one less than 40, the other my age. I ordered a ham and cheese sandwich. It came without ham. The younger person checked our table and I told him. He said no problem, I'll fix it. Immediately, the older man came running to us shouting "MISTER, YOU ORDERED A CHEESE SANDWICH AND I WONDERED ABOUT THAT". My thoughts were #1, I am the customer, and #2 If he wondered about it, why didn't he ask? Maybe I didn't enunciate properly, but I suspect he doesn't hear any better than I do. In any case, I would never have yelled at a customer. As to the food, you probably can do as well at the Pioneer Inn. The bacon in my wife's BLT was incinerated to crumbles. As a final note we had to ask to be waited on by the old jerk, otherwise we might still be sitting there.

Nederland's largest restaurant is, unfortunately, not thier best. The food is not bad per se, but it is not inspired or truly authentic German cuisine either.

You wouldn't expect to find such a wonderful restaurant in Nederland. And yet, the Black Forest is well worth going to for a fine dining experience. Over the past few years we've had many of their wild game and German specials - all excellent!

If you haven't eaten here, you don't know what you are missing!!!

The restaurant is a very unique family owned restaurant, which used to be in Black Hawk, and the owner is from Germany. The service is great, and the price is right for the wonderful food you get! The dinner atmosphere is very romantic, and the lunch specials are at a great price; they are just the same as any other restaurant in town, but you get an exceptional dinning experience and delicious food that you won't find anywhere else. If youre a beer lover, I highly reccomend the Octoberfest, which goes great with the Elk Ragu and a bowl of the Oxtail soup!

DO NOT EAT THERE!! We ate a late lunch there today, I had always wanted to stop there since I was a child and that was a bad decision! We waited by the door to be seated for 10 min before any one even acknowledged us being there. We were seated in a booth that was right from the 70's and Im sure hadn't been cleaned since then. The place has a musty/ mildewy smell that makes you real hungry... We were given a bread bowl that had bread I'm sure was delivered by Wounder Bread. At this point we had drinks on our table so we felt committed to stay. Our food showed up 35-45 min after we ordered it and was wayyy over cooked. We wanted to tell the waiter but he was MIA for the next 45MIN!! We couldn't even find someone else that worked there to give us our check! We will never go back again! McDonalds is 10 times better!

Pros: Looks kind of nice from the road and good mints by the door

Cons: 1970 decor, slow and I mean slooow service, smells

I first enjoyed the Black Forest back in college, and more recently when we stopped in during a bike ride. They have very good German food, but also offer American selections. There is also a full service bar for those who stop in for an afternoon of conversation with friends.

Missed the food I ate as a kid in germany. Thought I'd try this place out, and while it was fairly enjoyable, and the atmosphere was interesting enough, I didn't care for the place.

Weinerschnitzel wasn't as good as what I can make at home...a bit flavorless. Oxtail soup was not very stout. The cabbage dishes were great. Bread basket was nice. Service slow. Looooooooong wait for a table. Number of bathrooms inadequate; had to wait 20 minutes to get in, and had to go downstairs, which wasn't "accessible". Had to go to the concierge to get my ticket. Glasses weren't refilled with drink....
Not impressed at all.

In March of 07 myself and two friends attempted to dine at the Black Forest for dinner. It was a Saturday night at 8:25 and they claimed that the kitchen was closed and no food was left. The matre'd and the manager both rushed over to be sure that we were made to feel unwelcome. Not one pretzel or piece of schitzel to be eaten in the whole place? There were other people eating in the restaraunt when we arrived. I had to beg my friends to come to this restaraunt. It seems that around Ned it is commonly known that this establishment discriminates against it's prospective patrons. If you don't look "right", you may be refused service. I have dined in places all over the world and spent three years living in Stuttgart. The management of the Black Forest is the absolute LEAST hospitable I have ever encountered. If you want to give money to liars and bigots, then please go to the Black Forest. I'll never go back.

Cons: bigotted proprietor

I've only been there twice for dinner and once for lunch, but I felt compelled to alert the area to such a great restaurant. They have an impressive assortment of delicious German dishes, all of which are sure to satisfy in the extreme. The meats are prepared so well that they melt in your mouth, in fact, you need only use your fork. They very obviously take great pride in their presentation as well as their ingredients, and, as if that weren't enough, the Black Forest Inn is family owned and operated. To be blunt, they have an old fashioned Oxtail Soup that more than gives a reason to drive to Nederland just for lunch. And, of course, it must not be forgotten that they have a selection of the most magnificent deserts.
Relaxing to the wonderful view and fresh mountain air, listening to the hummingbirds flitting from flower to flower, enjoying a view of the occasional mountain-rain shower, and reveling in such a fine dining experience promises to make for a very pleasant outing.

Pros: They have an entrance in the back for those who are handicaped or need a level walk.

Cons: The front steps give you the exercise you need before and after dinner.

Definetly a saturday deal, drive up to Netherlands through gorgeous wavy roads (even better if you're looking for a great motorcycle ride) and getting there has all the rewards at the end. Food is fantastic, prices are affordable, service is great. The place is big and light, and you will have a wonderful dining experience if you're going for lunch, brunch or dinner!
