Avoid renting from this outfit at all costs. And if that isn't possible, totally lower your expectations. Unless you like the "bait and switch" sales technique. Being given the run around on issues. Having your issues ignore outright.
We are renting a lovely townhouse in Castle Rock CO. We saw the ad on Craigslist. 3 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom, garage, pool, fenced yard. Saw the unit and loved it. Decided to sleep on it and come back the next day. That next day, received a call that the unit that we were shown as "ours" didn't have its certificate of occupancy (it is new construction) and would we mind looking at another? No prob. Checked it out, its great. Still wanted to sleep on it because it was slightly different. Received a call the next day saying it was snapped up already. Received a call later that THAT buyer lost his job, thus his mortgage funding, so its ours if we still want it. Head down, sign the paper work. We do a walk-through and complete a punch list of what needs to be taken care of over the next month before we move in. Move-in day. There is no a/c. Our a/c unit was installed in the wrong unit. It took 10 days to remedy. In those 10 hot days, I am at home with a newborn. Also, there is no gate on the front yard fence, as we were told there would be one installed (we have 2 dogs, so this was a selling point, and it was in the CL ad). 2 weeks later, we are told that the owner will not provide the gate, but we are welcome tp purchase and install it ourselves, for $500. I am not spending that on a RENTAL unit. Or, we can use a babygate to block off the opening in the fence. So, we set that up. Then the management changes hands, so I continue the 'gate-fight' and get no where. In the mean time, there are still improvements to be made on the house that haven't been touched in 15 months. Cut to May 2010. We have to have the owner sign off on us getting passes to the pool at The Grange. Over 6 weeks have passed and I have not received it. All along, I am PAYING for the pool in my rent (paying HOA dues). Wendy, the management provides little to no information.
We are clean and dependable renters. We had one glitch paying our rent, it was a bank error and was remedied in the same business day that it was brought to our attention. There is no reason to be given the run around and to be made to jump through hoops for housing.
