.

This was our first stay in Crested Butte. It was definitely worth the trip. We usually go out to eat once or twice in a week, so picking the right place is extremely important. We were going to head over to the wooden nickel, but after hearing about their tendency to "nickel-and-dime you to death" I decided to do a little more investigating. After reading the reviews to the GN I decided this would be a place worth checking out.

The GN is a tiny place off the beaten path (aka Elk ave) on 3rd st. Luckily we had a reservation for that night because the place was absolutely packed. There was barely enough room for us to squeeze in. The first thing that struck me was the wine racks that lined the walls from floor to ceiling and the open kitchen. Having worked in a kitchen for some time I knew this could be a hazard if things didn't run smoothly.

We got a seat at our table and ordered a bottle of wine and ordered. They had some meals that the chef/owner had prepared for the night that sounded amazing (slow roasted veal), some typical italian meals and finally an option to create your own dish. This particular part interested me. It seemed a little over the top, but after looking at the options it didn't seem too out of place. You picked a pasta and a sauce and had the option to add meat to it if the sauce didn't already have it included.

We ordered the chicken florentine, chicken marsala and slow roasted veal (I had mentioned earlier). All the food was top notch. I mean all of it. Delicious sauces, perfect meats and everything tasted fresh and made right there on the spot. The service was great as well. We didn't feel out of place in our drab ski clothes, but we were treated high class.

I can't recommend this place enough. I just hope you can get a table!

Pros: Food and service make this place. The head chef is there most every night. He's also the owner.

Cons: This place is tiny, so make a reservation. It's also a little hard to find if you're walking. Hint: It's at the end of 3rd st. on the right.
