The food here is wonderful. It's a bit of Paris in the lower north-side. My Grandparents used to live on that block and this has always been a dark corner. They've turned it into a very romantic spot. \r

When in Paris, wife and I typically eat at restaurants Guy Savoy, Pierre Gagnaire, or L'Argege . . . not because they're Gault Millau's top three Parisian restaurants, but because they provide excellent value.

While I would not compare Z Cuisine with Paris' Haute Cuisine restaurants, it a great value at less than one third to one half the price. However, it does compare favorably to Paris' best bistro restaurants.

So for those readers who have traveled abroad and prefer higher end European cuisine, Z Cuisine is definitely worth the trip.

Pros: Excellent Value for Foodies' Who Cook and Appreciate

I love this place. The food is outstanding. The absynthe martinis are to DIE for. And the staff is very attentive... well, it helped that I was with a 6' tall blonde (really, guys... do you think it's original to hit on her?). Yawn. Other than that remarkably boring, stereotypical male behavior=no complaints. It's too bad that more people are discovering this place. I'll never get a table again. Maybe if I show with the blonde again...

We arrived last night at 6:30 pm and were told it would be a hour wait. We were taken to A Cote (next to) and ordered wine. At 8:00 pm we were told it would be another 15 minutes. We ordered an appetizer. At 9:00 pm we were told we were next, after two more tables left. Z Cuisine holds perhaps 12 tables. At 9:00 pm (When we finally left and went to a wonderful late night meal at Highlands Gardens) five items were crossed off of the chalkboard menu, supposedly only three parties were seated ahead of us and at least fifty people had crowded into A Cote. We were obviously forgotten, or displaced, while waiting and Z Cuisine offered no comps for our discomfort. Lastly, the dishonesty and worthless apologies of the slick wait staff was indeed sickening. I read this week that Z Cuisine closed down an additional day during the week because of their recent popularity. I suggest they close down completely and re-evaluate their mission statement and customer service policies. Unbelievable.

Pros: French wine

Cons: Everything else

The wine bar has really good wines.
The starter plate of two different pate's and cheese and was very enjoyable. The wait staff is very warm and friendly.

I agree that this place is one of the top 5 restaurants in Denver, if not the best French in town. But I haven't been to French 250 yet - will write a review when we get there. My husband and I have been to Z Cuisine 4 times in the last year, and would go more often if it wasn't so expensive. But every time we go, we want to throw financial caution to the wind b/c the food is so good. The menu is very limited, but the dishes coming out of the kitchen are authentic - the best charcuterie plate I've had, just as good as France. The cassoulet is sublime as well, done correctly. We always arrive just as it opens, so we don't have to wait - good thing, b/c it's always crowded by 6p. We've learned to ask for what items they are running low on at the beginning of the meal - we would've missed the amazing chocolate croissant bread pudding if we hadn't! The only thing that irritates us is the fact that there are some dishes in size and creation that would usually be considered appetizers (cheese plate, salads), but the "app" prices cost the same as full entrees! That's why we don't do full 3-course meals here. We usually do a bottle of wine, two "apps", one entree, one dessert & coffee, and it still usually costs around $150 incl tip. Still, it's worth it!!

went there with a group of 4. Had to wait over an hour at the wine bar next door at 8pm! We spent $60 for 2 beers 2 glasses of wine and a fondu appetizer. Then for dinner we sat down and they were out of 3 of the 6 main courses. portions were small and service was ok. After a meal of one appetizer for the table, entrees and 2 "double portion" salads and 2 desserts we have a bill of $150 before tip. Very expensive.

My husband and I went there last night based on great reviews. The food really is delicious, just like others say, and it is patterned after French cafe's in Paris. What we didn't expect was that we would pay $70 (w/tip) for a simple local cheese plate (six - yes six - small bites!) and a small bowl of stew with a tiny side salad with two drinks. Though they promised to bring more bread if we should ask, the two tiny pieces served with each course was ... barely enough to whet our appetites. The two $$ is a bit misleading - if you have a light appetite, it's all good. But we found ourselves hungry for a better value.

Absolutely one of the top 5 in Denver. I've eaten here I don't know how many times and each visit has been sublime. The charcuterie platter is a must - housemade pates, rillettes, terrines with lovely garniture - tiny sour pickles, roasted grapes, etc. - plenty for two to share. Lovely creative salads and soups. Favorite entrees are the signature cassoulet and the turbot in parchment. The chocolate pots de creme with creme fraiche is perhaps the most exquisitely decadent chocolate dessert in town. I only have a couple of small quibbles which you should be aware of - 1) they are only open four nights a week (must be nice) - 2) they don't take reservations (I personally think any restaurant that's going to cost me $100 a head should take reservations) - 3) cozy is one thing - this place takes cozy to a new level (you better be ok eating with strangers less than a foot away).

Pros: the real deal in authentic French cuisine

Cons: cramped and no reservations

We went to z. cuisine on our date night with great anticipation.. It took me a while to get there after hearing about it from some very trusted foodies, because they don't accept reservations.. we got there about 7:30 and were seated within about 20 min. The place is really set up like restaurants in france.. the space is small but cozy. We ordered the goat cheese salad and the platter of confit, pate and mousse made in house, both were amazing.. the salad was one of the best salads i have ever had. Then we got our entrees, my husbands ribeye with foie gras was really to die for and the scallops I ordered melted in your mouth.. dessert was just ok for me.. the price for the quality of food was reasonable i thought everything with wine about 65 per person. If you have a great appreciation of great food, you will really love this place.

I was amazed to find this quality of restaurant in Denver. Z Cuisine has what I call authentic French food. I'm not talking about the fancy stuff from Paris, but great French home cooking with a twist. On my first visit I had the pork which was cooked to perfection.
The second time I had the cassoulet, which is to die for.
The chef came to our table to chat for a moment, and he was absolutely friendly and down to earth as can be. A rare treat
I highly recommend this place if you're looking for affordable real french cuisine!

Whenever my boyfrined and I decide to go to Z Cuisine for dinner we don't expect to get seated right away, as the place is almost always packed with hungry people and a line out the door, but we do expect exceptional food and we are never disappointed with that. I have only eaten at Z Cuisine four times, but each time I have I've tried something different and I have never been disappointed. The pork chops, the mussels, the duck, the salads, and you can't forget to start the night with an amazing cheese plate appetizer. The food is always incredibly fresh. I recommend Z Cuisine to anyone. In fact, it is my first choice of where to take friends and relatives coming in from out of town. Absolutely charming!

I loved the place; the chef is awesome and very friendly. I found the ambience wonderful. Even though it took an hour to get a table but it was totally worth the wait. What was totally cool what the night I dined there, the chef from Frasca, the owners from Sushi Den, the owners from Duo, and the chef from Opus. The food was awesome my pork was prefect, and the mussels were to die for. For dessert I had the citron crêpe which was a nice way to end my meal. I did notice during the night that Chef Patrick was making a bit of a scene with a rood women but it sounded like she called the food disgusting, and in my opinion you never call the food disgusting, you call pizza hut, or some chain restaurant like that. Would recommend it to anyone.

Truly wonderful romantic. I'm raised in Europe and I asssure you that it is authentic in every way. Some of the best food I've had in Denver and I will be a regular and satisfied customer. Great wine list. The food is fresh! I almost didn't go because of the negative review but I'm so glad I went!
It's very small and no reservations but well worth the wait.
Enjoy!

My husband and I eat out at least 4 times a week and love Denver cuisine. We tried Z Cuisine and were very disappointed. It was horrible. The food read well on the chalkboard, but was not tasty when it came to the table. We ordered the mussels, the pork chop and the halibut. All were NOT good. If I were not embarrassed, I would have sent them back for a FULL refund. What a waist of MONEY! Instead, I payed for gross food. My recommendation is to not go! BLAH!

This is the kind of food you'd be eating if you had a French grandfather who loved to cook---hearty cassoulets, game terrines and, of course, both sweet and savory crepes. French-born chef Patrick DuPays, who owns Z Cuisine and the next…
