It seems this is a good school if you have a child in the IPM program or are in sports. It seems it is difficult for TAPS kids to make the teams as well since the coaches are IPM teachers. The children are segregated by IPM and TAPS(traditional school program) for most of the day there for when they do co mingle clicks and groups have already been established. The TAPS kids are berated and made to feel inferior at such a young age. I feel the way they have the school segregated actually premotes bullying and prejudice. Mingling with the TAPS kids will not bring the IPM kids tests scores down nor will it taint them as individulas. Co mingling would breed a school with tolerance, acceptance and a sense of community. Plus these kids might find some great friends they ahve been turning away from. Instead they turn their noses down at TAPS and have a "we are better than you" attitude. This seems to be accepted and almost encouraged by the teachers and adminstration.

My daughter is in 6th grade at Hamilton. Although it's a nuisance to have to drive her so far (the bus isn't available to us, as DPS is trying to feed us into a different IPM middle school) it's well worth the drive. She is happy, has friends, and (most importantly) is receiving an excellent education. She doesn't like all her teachers, but they're all teaching her well. The office staff are friendly and helpful, and I have no complaints about the school.

The TAP (Traditional Academic Program) and IPM (International Prepatory Magnet) classes are separated out, because the academic levels are separate. However, the groups mix in the "electives": PE, art, keyboarding, etc, where there is no need for separation.

After "shadowing" at several DPS middle schools, I was incredibly impressed with Hamilton. As a parent, I knew my child would have quality education, especially because of the International Preparatory Magnate program. We are fortunate to have such a fine caliber of a school in our city. The teachers are unparalleled. Hamilton lays the foundation of important study habits, along with organizational skills that will stay with the student throughout his education. In my opinion, Hamilton affords our children with an education equal to that of a private school, only at taxpayers cost! Our family loves Hamilton.

We sent our daughter to Hamilton Middle School's IPM Program. She she got an excellent education and was well prepared to enter the IB Program at George Washington high school. She loved the high academic standards, the quality of teaching and the intellectual community.

Hamilton is a great middle school. My daughter is a 6th grader there and loves it - and how many kids love middle school?! The principal is fantastic, really cares about the kids and runs a great school. We're very impressed with the staff and curriculum.

Hamilton is a phenomenal middle school! My 7th grader recently came to me and said, "Mom, I'm so happy!" That's almost unheard of for a middle schooler! Danny feels cared about at Hamilton. The kids treat each other with respect. They feel connected to the adults in the building. And he is getting a great education!

I went to Hamilton for middle school and I liked it. When I was there I had some friends, the teachers taught me a lot and encouraged me to do what I wanted to do. Not to get discouraged because of what other people say. Although they segregate the school by the different levels of learning it was okay for me. They have 3 levels of learning, TAP (for normal mainstream kids), IPM (for high level kids) , and Montessori (for genius kids). The programs are probably great but I think that they way they keep them apart is not ok. I didn't meet many people from my middle school until high school because they kept all levels separate. No interaction with each other for fear of contaminating the learning environment. What i didn't get is why Hamilton sees no problem with not letting children interact with kids that are not in their learning category. I don't like the way they keep them separate and I wont send my kids to Hamilton in the future because they will interact with kids from all over.
