The menu for this place sounds amazing, but the food and the service are really quite terrible. There are so few edible places in Denver that are vegan friendly and it breaks my heart to avoid such a place. But it's just not worth it.

If this review was simply on the food, I would give it 5 plus stars. I LOVE everything on the menu, I am vegan so options for me are scarce (if you don't want to live on salad). \r
Bad part is the service, I get the feeling since it's veg

Food is pretty good, atmosphere could be better. Fun to watch tatted-up hippie staff but they should mix in a bath..they look a little dirty. Fresh ingredients.

I have heard negative things about the staff at Watercourse, but since I always get my food to go, it's never been an issue. I am not a vegetarian and usually at vegetarian places I have a hard time ordering, but this place has a lot to choose from. Especially if you're not into 'healthy' eating. LOL I always get the Jimmy Wrap, it's my fav (with greek salad and hummus in a HUGE wrap that's always fresh and delicious). I call in my order at 10:45 and get there by 11 to get a parking space, otherwise it's pretty hard to find a spot.

I have been coming here for years, even prior to the move to their current location. It used to be low key friendly service with great, creative food. Over the years the food quality remains but the staff attitude deteriorates weekly. Service is slow (try to get out in less than 2 hrs, even on a slow night.) and inattentive (you see your server twice - when they take your order and drop your check. Good luck with refills). Even the host staff has a talent for ignoring people standing 3 inches in front of the podium. I want so badly to love this place especially since I'm a vegetarian, but the reality is that I cringe when somone suggests it.

I have ZERO idea as to what these guys are talking about in their negativity towards this place. I've been there at least 10 times and always got good food and service. I also know tons of people who like this place as well. Perhaps some items are more on the healthy side, but if you're not used to eating vegetables and stuff that's not deep fried, I guess you might have a problem with those things. They do have tons of stuff to eat, though, and I've a hard time believing you couldn't find something you'd enjoy if you'd give it the chance.
The ONLY negative I can come up with for this place is that they're not the quickest. So if you need to run in and out, perhaps this isn't the best choice. But everything else has always been great, even the water is better than most restaurants, and I've always had seriously good service.

An uptown vegetarian eatery. The food really isn't all that healthy considering the fat content but what I ordered was good. I got the grilled reuben with portobello mushroom, swiss cheese, saurekraut on rye. It has a casual atmosphere with a menu that is based on whole grains, veggies and fruits. The service was slow.

It is actually WaterCourse Foods in case someone has a hard time finding it. I have been a vegetarian for 20 years and love being able to go to a place that only serves veggie foods. I can eat everything on the menu! Their breakfast menu is very yummy. Prices are around $8-10 for a meal. Parking is sometimes hard to come by. Expect a wait on the weekends and peak hours.

I am on a constant breakfast quest to find the best deal, best food and best service. The Water Course ran a "Blue Plate" breakfast special and I decided to give it a try. As one of the first customers one morning, I was surprised to find that they were not ready to receive customers. The coffee was not brewed and when it came it had grounds floating in it. I ordered sweet potato home fries only to find out that they cost more than the ad stated( please see the microscopic asterisk in the ad). When I agreed to pay the surcharge I was informed that the deep fryer was not on and I could not get the home fries-brown rice instead. The biscuit/scone I opted for was not fresh nor warmed to disguise that fact. The service was halfhearted and inattentive-I hate having to catch a waiter to get a coffee refill! Overall, a poor experience and one I don't wish to repeat. It's on my list!!

I foolishly went here to pick up some vegan breakfast burritos. Boy, what a shock when the fragile, yet angry bearded boy working the counter verbally attacked me for asking his opinion on which of the dishes would be best served the next day. After being put in my place, and too shocked to flee the Water Course like any sensible person would have, I actually opted to spend money on the food (I repeat, definitly some serious shock going on)It is a sad thing when one person's bad attitude can ruin an otherwise fun experience, which is most definitly the case here. Maybe someone needs to give this little man a hug---or, gasp gasp---some bacon.
I wont be back---and I will be sure to advise any human, whether just curious or vegan, to avoid this joint at all costs.

I hesitate giving Watercourse even one star because that would mean I was remotely satisfied - which I wasn't. I don't have the energy to describe everything that went wrong, but Janis S. summed it up. They are the only Vegetarian shop in town and that gives them the right to not care about customer service. The food wasn't even that good - it was cold, salty and burned (I know, how can you have burned food and still come out cold?).
Unless you have a couple hours to spare, just to be treated like an imposition - I would try something else. Its on my Never List and they ruined my girlfriend's birthday.

The food is satisfying, even for meat eaters. It's great as vegetarian to go out to eat and have a selection, as opposed to the pity option offered at other places. The service is slower, but you could always enjoy your company and avoid the obvious rush times for eating out. No, it's not exactly health food but I'm not a vegetarian only for the health benefits. Big favorites of mine are the buffalo wings (can be spicy for some), and gravy dishes. If you like coffee, go for a cup with your meal because it's the best.

Food is the best!! Definitely not the healthiest, but vegetarian and really good. Service is very slow though so don't plan on dinner here if you just want a quick bite. I love this place!!

As a meat eater, I was hesitant to try this all vegetarian restaurant. That was years ago, because now, I eat there at least once a week. The biscuits and gravy and the seitan buffalo wings make my life a better place.

As a vegetarian I normally go to a restaurant and expect to find one or two items on the menu that I could eat. When I dined at Watercourse, that was not the case. They have a wide selection of vegetarian items. I could virtually pick from the entire menu. IT WAS AWESOME!! I definitely recommend this place to your non-vegetarian friends as well. The service and staff were both great. The only drawback was parking. If you go during non-peak hours you'll have better luck.

The owner of Watercourse Foods is planning on abruptly firing 15 staff members after realizing his buisness is 90,000 dollars in debt. Please call Dan Landes or another manager and tell them this is bad buisness. Also please do not patronize such establishments that treat their staff so unfairly!!!!

I dined with friends on Sept. 4th. We split the bill I put $20 on my credit card, they charged me $35. No big deal, I am sure just a mistake in closing out the check, right??? I call, leave message, no one calls me back, I call leave more angry message, Dan the GM calls me back, says he will re-credit me the $15. I check my account on the 26th, still no credit, call leave 3rd message, no one calls me back and still no credit, contacted my bank and they are investigating for me. I find it truly absurd that no one calls me back and that it has been a month and now they have lost a customer over their poor business practices.

I'm a pretty easygoing eater and can usually find a bit of lettuce to nibble on wherever I go, so when I go to Watercourse it's akin to a culinary corset being undone. What a treat to be able to order anything on the menu without worrying if it's got any meat in it. It's freeing and spectacular and I can't even express how much I love this place. The vegan buffalo wings and the Portabello reuben are two of my faves. The tomato curry soup is to die for. I've taken my carnivorous friends and they've loved it. My new favorite place is Watercourse.

This place is wonderful! Many confuse it with a health restaurant, but unless you get a salad it is really just greasy vegan comfort food. YUM! The service and atmosphere is glorious. I have read a lot of nasty reviews about Watercourse since they moved to their new location, and I would say that is because they are being written by nasty people. Quality food should take a long time! It is all of you Uptown money mongers that give this place a bad name! Watercourse is the center of the veggie community in Denver, and should be treated as such! This is the place where you can relax, meet some like-minded folks and enjoy a wonderful, slow meal! Long Live the Denver veggie food monopoly known as Watercourse foods!
Vegan coconut cream pie is to die for!

Watercourse being one of the best overall restaurants in Denver, and the best vegetarian friendly restaurant that I know, you have to expect it to be very busy, which it usually is. So it's good that they moved to a larger building that can accommodate more customers at once, although I did prefer the ambiance at the old place. My party of three arrived early last Sunday evening for dinner, and we didn't have to wait for a table at all. Our server was attentive and we ordered drinks, appetizers, dinner and dessert. They got everything right, everything delicious, and everything was served promptly. I think now that the new location has been open a while they've worked out a lot of the kinks. I've been a vegetarian for 12 years and have eaten veggie food in California, Seattle, New York City, and London, and I feel lucky to live near Watercourse, the best veggie restaurant overall that I've been to. Their menu is exhaustive, with every vegetarian protein source you can think of (tofu, tempeh, seitan, legumes, etc), so many ethnic foods represented (including American, Thai, Mexican, Mediterranean,...), and creatively combined and seasoned foods. I always try something different and I'm always delighted. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. And all that at affordable prices. Go there and enjoy!

My fiance and I eat here at least every other week on Friday nights. We know we can get something healthy and full of flavor before going to the movies or going out on the town. Portion sizes are LARGE and in CHARGE, so you can absolutely split a dish or be prepared to box half of it to go!

We have only gone on Friday nights before the dinner rush, and the longest wait we've had is a half hour. I spoke with the host last week, and he said they definitely take reservations, so we'll be doing that next time around! There are usually people waiting to be seated, and once you're dining, you can tell everyone around you is going to take their sweet time eating and chatting it up.

Seriously, the people watching is half the fun when you go to this place. You won't be able to count on your hands and feet how many pairs of thick rimmed glasses, bohemian scarves, and faux-hawks there are.

Now to the food. I usually get the Juan Wrap or the Veggie Burger. The green hot sauce they have on the table REALLY heats things up! Also be sure to try the organic ginger ale!

The desserts always look AMAZING. We recently split some gluten free carrot cake, and it was delicious.

If you're a meat eater, you will DEFINITELY be able to find something on the menu you'll like. There are so many choices on the menu that you'll go crazy trying to decide which one you'd like to try!

I would definitely recommend eating here. I haven't tried the breakfast menu yet, but that is next on my list to do!

Watercourse is a vegetarians dream! Most place leave 1 or 2 options open, not WC. The menu is filled with great food with a variety of tastes. That being said, my husband is a meat eater and also claims the food is excellent. However, if fast and attentive service is your priority this may not be the place for you. My favorite is the the chilequitas and the biscuits are to die for! My husband says the onion rings are the best he's ever had.

I recently tried this restaurant with a group of friends. The food was wonderful for vegetarians and meat lovers alike! Great flavor combinations and a nice selection of wine. However, I noticed that the wait staff were slow to attend not only our party, but several other tables in the restaurant. I understand that things can get bogged down in the kitchen on a busy night, but even the wine service was slow.

That being said, the food was excellent and I will definitely go back to give this restaurant another try.

For those of us who used to brave the smokey and somewhat dingy interior, and terrible service for very good and healthy food at the old location, the move to the new 17th street location has been warmly received. The food has gone from good to excellent, the interior from dark to bright and airy, and most of all clean! The change of venue has also increased the level of service. The waitstaff is very helpful and attentive. The outside patio is a big plus and the bar inside is usually available if you don't want to wait for a table. Try the wonderful desserts (especially the pastries). We go at least once a week and enjoy the convenience and consistency. The previous reviews obviously lament the move from the prior location that was more a bohemian hangout than a good restaurant. The good news is that City O'City (same owner) is in the old location on 13th and is still a dark and dingy bohemian, bike messenger hangout with the same great pastries and good food (limited menu) I think this is where the waitstaff from Watercourse must hang out after work.

I can?t express how much this place has gone downhill since their move from 13th Ave.
It is really sad because I use to eat here 2-3 times a week. This is where I would always take out of town guests for breakfast??not anymore. Each time I made a visit, the food & service kept getting worse until 2 weeks ago when I swore off of Watercourse forever! I ordered the Dona Lee, a sandwich that I use to LOVE. The pita crumbled like a cracker because it was so dry & the Seiten was so extremely overcooked that it had the texture of burnt croutons! It was awful. Seems the owner really doesn?t care that his business is slipping. I?d love to see an aggressive change because I?m going to miss what this restaurant use to be, but for now I?ve sworn off because I?m tired of flushing my money down the toilet.

I used to love to eat at at the Watercourse when it was on 13th. The prices were good and the food was awesome. I used to love the Setian Tacos. The decor and artwork at the old place was funky and comfortable. So, it moved over to 17th Street. The first thing I noticed is that the new place looks more like a Chipoltle than a restaurant that should be housing a Denver Vegetarian staple. The seats are cafeteria like and oh so uncomfortable. Sadly, there is NONE of the old ambience. If the food had stayed the same, I would go there but on the two or three times, we tried to like the food at the new place, it just wasn't going to happen. The Seitian tacos went from crisp and delightful to gray and dreary and inedible. The last time I ate there, it was only because we were in a big rush to get to a baseball game and it was on the way. The food was so bad, we didn't even eat it and the service was terrible. It is such a shame that Watercourse did not stay the course. I will probably never go back.

Pros: There are no longer any pros.

Cons: It has gone from great to lame since it changed locations.

I was there last night and really loved the food - I give that 5 stars! The ambiance could use some doctoring, though - I give that 3 stars. I'm not a vegan or vegetarian. In fact, I'm allergic to popular veggies (like carrots), so I thought it was going to be a challenging meal out. Much to my surprise, it wasn't hard at all. My "burger" was very tasy and my friend's stuffed pita was even better! They prove that you don't have to eat meat to enjoy your meal. Food portions are like all other American establishments. Too big. If they were smaller, I would have had room for their supposedly tasty desserts. Guess I'll have to come back for dessert some time or visit their bakery. The stuff behind the glass looked devine!

It's odd that although Watercourse and its sister location, City, o City, share most of their menu, the food items turn out so differently.

I always eat the same thing at either location: hot wings. Wheat meat hot wings. Because at City, O City, they're really good. Addictively good, even. So good that I keep trying with Watercourse's version, because I keep thinking to myself, "this time, they won't be so awful. really. just give them another chance," et c., et c., ad absurditas.
And I'm always wrong.

They're like gluten jerky painted with floury hot sauce. So tough, you can barely chew them. I suppose that's why they take 45 minutes to make. the sharp edges hurt your throat when you try to swallow. it's terrible.
overpriced and shameful, and you feel stupid for even giving watercourse another chance. at least, i do. ten dollars for six sticks of bad gluten jerky and an obviously long-expired vegetable shred which looks as if it might once have been a leaf of lettuce, and three wilted celery bits. yes, i currently feel stupid for giving watercourse so many chances to please me with just one simple dish.

well, no more. are they slow? They are slow, insolent, and ostentatiously, self-consciously Hip. The restaurant is boiling hot. You are still crammed in with other diners so tightly that you can't eat without someone's elbow from the next table crashing into yours at least once or twice. All this, i will stomach for good vegan food, and go away without complaint.

the operative word being *good.*

The whole night was just so confusing and frustrating!
We had a large party (11) so we called ahead. They said that they don't usually do reservations, only on large groups. So we made a reservation and all showed up Saturday evening. When we arrived, they said that they don't do reservations and had not heard of us ever before. So all 11 of us waited at the bar for AN HOUR. No free drinks or appetizers... no apologies... nothing. When we were finally seated,(most of us already starving!) our meals were luke warm and/or not that tasty. (my tamales were bland and my boyfriend's burger tasted like cardboard, although the fries were great!) They also short pored his wine. At $10 a glass it doesn't seem ethical to short someone. (The wine was VERY good though.) They had no problem putting an included 20% tip onto the bill but didn't care enough to at least say SOMETHING about our poor seating service. Our dinner group will not be coming back.

Pros: Cool diner feel, great people watching

Cons: poor customer service, not so hot food, over priced wine

We went there to celebrate my birthday and waited half an hour for a table. When we were finally seated I got a call from my friend stationed in Iraq. I took the call outside because it was too loud to hear inside and although my mom wanted to order drinks for us all and explained I was just taking a call she refused to serve us because I was not seated at the table. My mom packed up my presents on the table and left

About half the menu is very good, the rest should be trimmed. That?s not likely to happen because the staff is too busy maintaining a pace of service so slow it drives my normally patient soul absolutely mad.

Although there?s never a lack of staff, it?s clear that most hands working at Watercourse come without experience and receive no training. You wait endlessly to be seated, place your order or to pay the bill.

As you wait, the lack of air conditioning can drive the temperature over 90?, something that won?t do anything to keep you from boiling. But many customers ride in on single-track bicycles, pumping the place so full of hipster cool that you?ll hold back from griping to your sweaty server.

Pros: One of the only veggie restaurants in Denver, Some excellent dishes

Cons: Slow service, No air conditioning, No Diet Coke

We keep going back to Watercourse because we love the food. The creative meals and quality ingredients have us craving it every weekend. I don't know how the service was at the old location, but it can take up to an hour to be seated on the weekends. And, although they can seat larger groups, be prepared to wait! And waiting for a table is only half the battle. We have NEVER gotten our food in under a half hour, and have sometimes waited over an hour. If they could speed up the service it would prevent the long line at the front door. I recommend taking a book, and being prepared for a 2 hour commitment.

Watercourse proves that you can serve healthy food that is also delicious. A great menu and everything can be prepared vegan. I have taken several skeptical meat eaters to Watercourse and they have all been impressed and satisfied.
And the baked goods are fabulous- have a blueberry muffin, they are the best in Denver and guilt free! Add to this friendly service and a lovely, convenient new location at 17th and Emerson and you can't go wrong. Thanks Watercourse!!

I LOVE this restaurant! It is the only fully vegetarian restaurant in Denver that I know about which makes dining out something to look forward to. You get alot of healthful food for your money and food is really not that expensive. Some favorite dishes of mine are the Tempeh Chorizo Tacos, the BBQ Tofu, and the Tempeh Burger. Try the Double Chocolate Hemp I-Scream Sandwhiches for desert. A fun, funky atmosphere and a kind staff make the experience all the more enjoyable. Check them out at their new, larger location (17th & Emerson).

I have been going to Watercourse for years and am always, consistently impressed. And I am a meat eater!! It is the only place like it in Denver... Excellent for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The staff is friendly and helpful with menu items. Definitely try the baked goods - vegan tiramisu!! Check out the new location on 17th - same great prices and food!

We traveled to Denver and used the previous reviews of this restaurant to try it out. During our stay, we ended up eating there 3 times! The breakfasts and sandwiches are phenomenal, particularly the tempeh chorizo hash, tempeh burger, and Dona Lee wrap. We like the funky atmosphere. The baked goods are also great, as is the vegan thai iced tea. Take your time, people-watch, and have a great meal.

Just another review praising the food at Watercourse Foods. This was our first time here and I am card carrying carnivore. Let me tell you, the food was incredibly tasty. I don't want to hype it up, but I am definitely looking forward to coming back and trying more. We had the Juan Wrap, the Thai Peanut Stir Fry, and the Blackened Tofu. I tried all of them and like all of them. It didn't feel or taste like we were eating vegetarian food. Even the Kiddie Pasta that my daughter had was very good.

As for the review warning about the service, we had no such experience. Our waitress Sarah was not only helpful and informative, she was charming and nice. And service was prompt and our food was out quickly despite the fact that the restaurant was full.

And the prices were great!

The food at Watercourse is truly unique and consistently good. You do however have to prepare yourself for a few things in going.

1) If you go and it is even slightly busy you can wait about 45 minutes for your food.
2) We have had a waiter there before that was quite literally dripping sweat when he took our order. We have had another waiter bend down in front of us - to have his butt come flying out for our view. Kind of gross. And not entirely unexpected at this place.

The food is really good and if you can get past the very mediocre atmosphere, the sometimes slow food and just strange service - it is well worth it.

great vegetarian restaurant with many options. great sides and salads, and a full breakfast menu. hours are good, though i would have loved it if they were open monday too. but so it goes with indie restaurants- the staff needs a break too. friendly, smiling service and great food for a low price. coffee's ok, but the desserts and breakfasts look amazing. as i did this time, i will b-line for this joint every time i ever come to denver.

WaterCourse is my favorite breakfast place ever. The frenchtoast, probably the least healthiest thing on the menu, is absolutely perfect. My boyfriend often orders the tempeh chorizo, and for a meat eater loves it. The coffee is good too, and filled up frequently.

I stopped by Watercourse for lunch when I was in town and loved the food so much I've vowed to make it a regular stop when I'm in Denver. I cozied up to the bar and had excellent service. The iced tea is spectacular. I had the Dona Lee, subbing miso tahini sauce for the ranch, and ordered an apple-cinnamon-nutmeg couscous and special-of-the-day fruit salad instead of fries. They had no problem subbing my dressing or side dishes. The entire meal was not only delicious but totally original. The place is as unpretentious as it comes but still stylish and friendly. Veggies, vegans and meat-eaters will all enjoy this fantastic food.

I would recommend this place to anyone - ENJOY!!!!

I had the pleasure of eating there yesterday and it was a delight! Great Food, wonderful sevice and artsy kind of atmposphere. The Vegetarian menu is large and I think there is something for every kind of vegetarian! Try the veggie hash...it is so yummy! I would say it is one of the 3 best vegetarian resturants in Colorado (the other 2 being the Harvest and the Rainbow) I am going to dream of going back there to try every other thing on the menu. Also, they have some good food for kids!

We went to WaterCourse for one of our monthly DinnerGrrls meetings and had a great time. Though the restaurant doesn't really take reservations, I had called ahead, and they were setting up the table for our group when I got there. Though the waitstaff kept pretty busy, they did a pretty good job. The food was great! I had the macro plate, and was thoroughly impressed. Everything seemed really fresh and filling. Raves came from other members for pasta, polenta encrusted tempeh, which actually tasted a lot like meat, and the jerk tofu. Even the chocolate almond cake and an orange cake were satisfying but not desserts to leave one feeling weighted down at the end of dinner. The hibiscus iced tea is beyond words, too!
