Comments:
+ Southern gospel is not our style, there were no hymns, music repeated a lot as can happen with contemporary music. If music was not such a large part of our worship we would be going to this church.
+ Little doctrine in the preaching and they were very open to tell us that was a conscious choice. We could perhaps make this up in small groups/Sunday School.
+ FRIENDLIEST and most inviting church!"

Follow-up:
+ Pastor called, and we were invited to dinner on Wednesday. They also stopped out to the house and brought cookies.

"Details on our ratings:
1) Doctrine in general
a. Jesus Christ is the only way to be saved
b. We are saved by grace, through faith, not by works there is nothing we can do to earn salvation
c. The entire Bible is true and infallible
i. This includes the story of Creation, to the structure of church leadership in Timothy
ii. Homosexual behavior is no more/less sinful or acceptable than adultery between heterosexuals. These sins must be repented from in truth.
d. Predestination We come from a Calvin background, but are quite content in finding a church that doesnt teach this because we can take parental responsibility for it.
e. Music we believe music (including instruments) is very biblical for worship and this is a very important part of our personal worship
2) Worship Style & Content
a. 70/30 (70% hymns, 30% contemporary)
i. We love the hymns and dont feel that we have worshipped with all of our hearts if they are not sung.
ii. Turn offs: Contemporary music which repeats a lot or when worship teams seem to be overly dramatic.
b. It is important to be regularly reminded of the Commandments & Creeds
c. Not ashamed to preach on contemporary cultural issues
3) Kids
a. Kids & programs for grades 3-5 and it would be nice to have friends from Little Turtle
4) Location
a. Within 10 minutes from home because we desire to be well involved
5) Friendliness
a. How welcoming was the church?
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Background:
We are new to the Columbia City area and have found it quite hard to find a church. We come from a Protestant and Reformed background (Christian Reformed to be exact) and found that there are no Reformed churches. We dont wish to travel an hour round-trip to Fort Wayne for one since we are typically very involved in church. I should note that I am employed well outside of Columbia City so I dont network with people from the area too often either.
So in our search for a church in the Columbia City, IN area we have reached out by email and none have ever responded to our inquiries (12 churches). Thats right; none. This seems odd and has made it much harder to find a fit. Furthermore, many churches dont even have a web site or dont make it easy to know when a service is even held without forcing a trip out to see their sign. I am sure it is not intentional, but this lack of information & response to inquiries has left a family of 4 without a church home now for several months.
Perhaps other new people to the area who may not be so committed to going to church may give up given such a lack of response. If we are doing this kind of a job in reaching the churched, what about the un-churched?
We have now visited several churches in the area and have so far found just one (so far) to really work hard at welcoming people: New Hope Wesleyan. If that was a better worship fit for us we would have stopped looking. Great job New Hope!
In reading this some may draw a conclusion that we are being too picky, but in our walk through this we see that we need to be flexible on some things and be willing to change. Yet there are certain doctrines which we just cannot compromise on.
