I heard Troy Polamalu got engaged here, so I decided to check it out. I was not disappointed -- both the pizza and atmosphere were excellent. I would definitely recommend it.

I was born and raised in Pittsburgh and Mineo's was the place to eat Pizza but now that I have learned what good pizza is I would rather eat at The Burgh in Bridgeville! Their Pizza is awesome especially their white pizza.

Mineos pizza is exceptional and the staff is friendly. Its not as clean or as organized as Aiello's, but their staff is more respectful and gracious.

WHEN I LIVED IN THE BURGH, MINEO'S WAS THE PLACE TO BE FOR PIZZA. SOME MAY NOT LIKE THE WAY IT'S PREPARED, BUT I DO. IT'S A MATTER OF TASTE. TO ME, IT'S THE BEST.

Being an Italian who just moved to Pittsburgh 4 months ago I was suggested by some friends of mine to go to Mineo's pizza in order to get a real pizza, italian style.\nUnfortunately I have to admit that Mineo's pizza has nothing to do with Italian pizza. The dough was way too greasy and too thick, as usual in the American style. The mozzarella was tasteless and the amount of it was absurd. The tomato sauce had no salt or spices.\nI don't want to sound too judgmental, but Mineo's pizza is just like any other pizza in the States. At least they should not say they make Italian pizza.\nBy the way, I prefer Aiello's pizza.

The pizza from Mineo's in Mt. Lebanon is the best I've ever had in Pittsburgh. I've been living here for two years and have enjoyed some from across the city, but this classic place takes the cake!\n\nThe white pizza is phenomenal and their cheese is such high quality. The pizzas were so thick and the crusts were perfection.\n\nIt was hot and incredibly fresh, and they were courteous even though they were incredibly busy on a Friday night. \n\nFive stars!

Good pizza places seem to provoke ratings that are either excellent or terrible. I happen to think that, in this neighborhood, Mineo's makes a truly great pizza . \nOf course, you have to enjoy lots of cheese and a nice yeasty crust, plus fresh vegetables. Not everyone does. This is not a New York pizza nor is it an Italian one, or even a gourmet creation. And thank god it's not a British one. But hey, you know where to find those...\nFor the record, Mineo's has the best pizza on the street though Aiello's comes very close. Napoli is meh and Lucci's is inedible.\nAlso, if I have to read one more review that extols New Haven I will not be responsible for my actions. Just move there, already, and leave us alone. Jeez.

I admit it: I'm a flip-flopper!

In Pittsburgh there's been a debate for years about who has the best pizza in town. I used to be all about Aiello's, and it is good...but, I tried Mineo's again for the first time in years a few months ago, and now I'm hooked!

Cheesy, greasy, hot, great sauce -- everything a pizza should be. And, last time I was there I got two slices of cheese pizza and a can of Coke, and my bill was under $4!!!

Can't be beat!

I used to go to Mineos a lot, I thought the pizza was the best ever. Lately it has really gone down hill. I paid $28.00 for a burnt pizza!!! Never again. Recently I found a pizza shop in Sewickly, family owned, they make their own sausage, yum-yum. Their pizza is greatttt, a must try. Tony R's pizza, you will never be disappointed. Personally I will never go to Mineos again.

I checked this place out at the recommendation of numerous people on a quest to find a delicious pie in the burgh. Having grown up outside of New Haven, CT I was privileged to have a lot of excellent pizza options. Mineo's just does not live up to the billing. The fact that it has won so many awards is troubling. I am now worried about the quality of pizza I will most likely not be able to find in the area. The pizza itself is decent, and I did like the very unique flavor of the crust, but the volume of the cheese is too overwhelming. Overall, its not bad, just not fantastic. Plus $18 for a large before toppings... no thanks.

Great pizza! Excellant crust and the sauce will make you cream in your jeans. The only thing is I can't figure out the protocol for cleaning off your table. Do you do it yourself or do you leave the scrappings on the table..I don't know, but what I do know is this.. At least you do not have to rehash your order like most Pittsburgh eaterys.\r\n

The pizza is fantastic, the place smells and feels like the legendary pizza houses your dad talks about. Mineo's is right on Murray St. in Squirrel Hill. They put the cheese on top of the meat, which is sort of their signature. Order a pizza--you won't regret it.

and check out their other location in Mt. Lebanon, on Washington.

We visited Pittsburgh with friends last night, and after spending the afternoon ""pubbing"" in South Side, we returned to our hotel only to find the restaurant we really wanted to go to closed. Not wanting to venture out this late, we thought...PIZZA! The front desk staff recommended this place and another. We chose due to the 16"" XL pizza for around $11.00. This pizza was excellent. I think you could probably do better in New York or Chicago, but we come from a small town in Ohio that has about 20 pizza joints, and this beats all of them. The cheese is ooey-gooey, but just enough of it so it doesn't overwhelm the flavor. This place goes light on the sauce so you don't burn your mouth. The crust was thin with just enough EVOO to give it good texture. It was delivered within 30 min. on a Saturday night, and was piping hot! I do agree that I wish the whole ""slide factor"" on the toppings was minimized, but you get that with thin crust pizza. All in all I give it 5 stars!!

I had a terrible experience at this restaurant. I had never eating pizza from this place and i wanted to try something new. I found their number online and called to place an order. I was very clear on my order and when i went to pick up the pizza, it was wrong and they charged me 21.00 for six pieces of pizza. Honest mistake i thought to myself. When i explained this to the clerk he became very angry with me and started yelling. When i was walking out of the restaurant, i heard the man say to another worker ""F*$%n' Kid."" I proceed to call the owner and he handled the issue in a professional manor, however he did nothing to make me feel like i didn't wasted $21.00 on six mediocre slices of pizza. I recommend you stay far away from this business and go elsewhere for some some pizza.

For years I was told to buy my pizza at Mineo's. It's the best, you can't beat it, nothing better, top rates for years by the hometown mag...Enough already! So I went. We ordered 3 different pies, one plain, one with pepperoni, and one with pep/mush/sausage. All three were very dry, yet greasy. In other words, the grease, cheese and toppings slid off the pizza and all over my hands. I tasted a hint of provolone in the cheese, a nice touch but a bit too sharp. The toppings were not great, classic, but mushrooms seem toi come from a can. I guess if you don't want anything special, just good average pizza, go to Mineo's. Sorry guys, this place is not even in my top 10 for Pittsburgh Pizza. I can tell you at least 15 better places to get pizza in Pittsburgh that have higher quality, character and originality. Don't get me started on service. Does anyone who works there even know how to smile or say thank you? I guess nobody wants to venture out for quality, fresh, authentic pie anymore. Let's all go to Mineo's...you can have it. Oh, by the way, bring cash. No plastic taken here!

Cons: Too dry, not very fresh tasting

The pizza is wonderfully greasy and cheesy like a pizza should be. Crust could have more flavor, but at 1 am on a Friday or Saturday, it is the best hands down.

Lots of people told me that I HAD to goto Mineo when in Pittsburgh. I was excited to go, and when I got there I felt like I was home (NYC). Then the pizza came out and I realized that I was in the country. THIS is what everyone was raving about?!?!?! YES, there is lots of cheese and the cheese is good- greasy but good. My guess is like everyone else, that there is some mozz and some provolone mixed in. The sauce is nice, but not really anything special. The crust was dry and too compressed. Maybe I just wanted it to be great and it wasn't. It was good, but nothing special. I decided to be fair to the Burgh and walked up the block, you can see my review there. If you want some REAL good pizza, make the trip to the BIG city folks. Any neighborhood pizza parlor beats this place hands down.

What can I say I have been going to mineos as long as I can remember. The only thing that changed is prices raising over time. ( which happens with everything) anyway, mineos has oil coming off it but thats the best part especially when you put some garlic on it and top it off with a ice tea in a carton like most of my fellow ( greenfield people).I highly suggest mineos ( at least once)

Pizza Lovers, pay close attention. I happen to write food article reviews for a local Pgh paper. Mineo's, claims to have the #1 Pizza in the burgh. Not sure how in the hell they achieved that rating as they are anything but. Trust me, the only way they would be able to garner a #1 Rating legally is they must be paying for it. To be sure, I went to this establishment last week to prove or disprove what I've been hearing all these years. To Be somewhat descriptive, their crust is oil laden to the point where it soaks through to the bottom. Biting into the crust is an expierence -- Very hard, and as I said, Oil laden--way too much EVOO, and I'm an Oil lover so that may give you an idea of what I'm saying. The sauce and Toppings? Very Avg at best. Nothing to brag or write home about. I can think of at least 20 other Pizza Establishments that I would go to before settling on Mineos. Those that think this is the best pizza in town either have serious taste bud issues, or just don't know any better--Or have never really had top notch Pizza. Looking for the best Pizza in the Burg? Then take a walk right up the Street to Aiello's. I'm NOT the owner nor do I have any affiliation with Aiello's. Without going into detail, I'll leave it up to you. Go to Mineo's, order a few cuts anyway you like, then Immed take a 1/2 block hike up the street to Aiello's and COMPARE! Although everyone's taste varies to some extent, after tasting the diff between the 2, if you think Mineos is better, make an appointment to see your ENT Doc Pronto! In summary: NO COMPARISON! Whoever writes or Endorses Mineo's as having the Best Pizza in town, are either Paid Off by Mineos Owner/ Mgmt, or they are tight Friends with someone. Its simply a Joke in my book to compare, and I've traveled the globe a number of times over sampling food at every port. \r\n\r\nThis LIE needs to stop! It is NOT the #1 Pizza in the Burg. *Not even close*

The pizza here is well-acclaimed, and it's understandable. But I found the sauce too sweet for my liking and take-out somewhat precarious because the toppings tend to slide around while the pizza is still hot. The service is courteous and quick, and the decor has a nice neighborhood feel. This is worth a try as a benchmark for comparison.

Take your Lipitor or Zocor before you come here, because the cheese is piled on with a lavish hand. And what cheese! Gooey, saly and strong, with more than a hint of sheep's-milk cheese (romano? provolone?) in it. Excellent meaty sausage, coarse-textured and laced with fennel seed, is hidden under the winter blanket of cheese. The sauce is, by contrast, mild. There is only a hint of oregano to modify the basic, low-salt flavor of tomato sauce or puree (no tomato chunks). The crust is so good you could eat it for breakfast. The pizza itself looks like a conventional pie, but the taste is extreme! I defy anyone to get a whole pie home without sneaking a slice in the car. This review applies only to the Squirrel Hill branch. There is a Mineo's in Mount Lebanon that appears to use the same recipe, but to me the saltiness and the amount of cheese has been toned down for suburban tastes. There are several other Mineo's Pizza shops in Pittsburgh, but they are not the real thing. The Mount Lebanon branch delivers; as far as I know the Squirrel Hill branch does not. Bring someone with you when you pick up the pie, because parking is all but impossible at both stores. Not for the canola oil and fiber police, but without a doubt one of the three stunningly unique pizzas in the Pittsburgh area.

My dad started off taking me here because he and his friends used to go when it was just a hole in the wall (not that it's much more now). I'm yet to find a pizza as good as Mineos. They've come close, but it really is the best I've ever had. The cheese just MAKES the pizza, no doubt. And I find it a complete joke when people say their favorite pizza is Pizza Hut or Papa Johns. Get out to Mineos or Vincents or Fioris for good pizza.

I don't see how anyone would think these guys are the best in the city. Pizza is one of the few things I dine out for since I have yet to perfect it at home. Mineo's looked and tasted exactly like my homemade recipe, which isn't bad, but certainly not worth going out for.

Maybe I've just had bad luck, considering that I grew up in Bloomfield and everyone says how great Mineo's is, but I've been disappointed by this place. I've tried the pizza here a few times with my friends and we've been pretty well turned off to eating here again. It's hard to pinpoint, but there is a strange tase to the pizza here, some kind of sour taste. No big deal though, a lot of people like it, and there are plenty of other pizza options in our city.

No question...anyone who knows anything about pizza, realizes that Mineo's uses the freshest and the best ingredients in their pizza, and they do not skimp on the toppings. I have yet to find a pizza to equal its quality, and have patronized Mineo's since 1969. Why go anywhere else?

Mineo's is a great value and very inexpensive (you can leave STUFFED for around $3.50). However, the cheese on its pizza is a little too much for many. Great Veggies, but if you don't like a lot of thick cheeze, stay away!

Mineo's is a great value and very inexpensive (you can leave STUFFED for around $3.50). However, the cheese on its pizza is a little too much for many. Great Veggies, but if you don't like a lot of thick cheeze, stay away!

Pros: Service, Staff

Cons: Bathroom needs work

.

We have enjoyed Mineo's pizza for more than 40 years. It is simply the best pizza.

I am not kidding! I have lived all over this country. They can't figure out what Pizza should taste like in the MidWest and further west. NY is good Pizza. Mineos is a Island of perfection standing out for the whole country to taste. It does not get any better! Strong Cheese flavor. They use a blend of Ramono. Wounderful tangy sauce, that does not overpower the combined flavor. Crispy crust that zaps yoour tounge with a delicious flavor of its own. The main word for this place is Unique. There is no other like it period. Let the NY and Chicago people think they understand. How could they. They have never tasted such a delight before. When I die..., burry me with a large mineo's Sausage Pie!

We are from W. PA and have family in Du Bois and the N Hills but live in Elkridge. MD. Often we get pizza at Mineo's upon our vist to the 'burgh. My family had a Pizza shop in Reynoldsville for a decade. I understand quality and Mineo's it all! Taste, freshness, excellent ingredents, satisfaction. We eat it cold and we buy extra to take back to MD.My sister-in law Ruth Ann loves it! Primo Pizza for sure!

Sorry mineos.... but I have to say that I don't really enjoy eating this pizza. The toppings/ingredients seem to be fresh, but the pizza just has no taste. The sauce is quite bland. It is also hard to eat... the cheese is so solid that it slides right off the slice leaving me with, well, bland sauce and crust. This pizza is also fairly greasy. One thing that mineos has going for them is their staff. They are some of the nicest people that I have come across in this business. I would return to this pizza place just for that reason alone.

This pizza is totally awesome. I would travel around the world for Mineo's pizza as well as a chance to hang out with the Mineo brothers! These guys are great and they are very customer oriented-true ""people"" guys!\n\nClose or far away, any drive is worth it for Mineo's!

People Of Earth...\n\nUnderstand this, Mineo's Pizza House rules the pizza universe. It starts with the perfect homemade crust, continues with the deliciously crafted sauce, followed by the highest quality blended imported cheese, and then just the freshest most bountiful toppings (if you like). This is the one-and-only, the pie that has stood the test of time and is consistently rated the best in the city of Pittsburgh for over 40 years. Others have come and gone, but Mineo's reigns supreme!

Has anyone else noticed that quite a number of the people who don't think this pizza is good, have listed in their cons that there is NO BEER? I suppose it's true some people can't enjoy themselves without alcohol. Think about it.\n\nI remember as a child going to pick up pizza at Mineo's, and when we moved away my father would bring home pizza from Mineo's when he made a trip to Pittsburgh.\n\nI've been reading through some of the complaints and I especially like the one about how the ""toppings"" aren't buried under the cheese or baked like he likes them.........have you noticed though, that at Mineo's when you order ""toppings"" you get toppings? It's not like alot of places I've been where it seems like they just show the toppings to the pizza, and expect you to think that you got your money's worth.

Pros: family oriented, no worry about drunks, spoiling your evening

Cons: , or better yet, move to Du Bois

.

okay, there are 2 other pizza shops within 500 feet of this dump and both are far better. There are easily 20 other pizza shops in this city better than mineos. Hell, Sheetz pizza gives mineos a run for its money. I dont know what you people are drinking, mineos pizza is a completely unremarkable, greasy mess.

We make the 1 hour drive every other week to feast on this pizza. It is by far the best pizza we ever ate in the US. We always get the pizza with the pepperoni top. The rustic crust is awesome and the sauce is perfect but what ,akes this pizza is the cheese. The cheese is absolutely out of this world. \n\nWhenever we get a pizza from anywhere else we compare it to Mineos and 99% of the time the competition doesn't stand up.\n\n

I grew up on the stuff! The pizza is excellent, hands down. I now live in LA and there is nothing out here anything like Mineo's. I get back to PGH every other year and always go to Mineo's. I bring my children there as well. You know, their subs are great too! This is a must stop on your way home to watch the Steeler games.

This is a local favorite. The pizza is excellent. The Bacon Pizza has more bacon than a BLT sandwich. The crust is very tasty and firm. Excellent sauce. Lots of cheese, no real need for double cheese. A great place for lunch. Take out is the preferred method for this restaurant. It is self service, no wait staff. But the pizza is well worth the trip. Not a real place for ""sit down dining"". Beverages are canned. No water. But still worth the trip. Take it to the motel or the house.

Pros: Food/Pizza, Relatively inexpensiv, "By the piece" pizza

Best pizza in the 'burgh?! Are you insane? The only people who go there are Squirrel Hill residents who never leave their neighborhood anyway. The pizza is oily and of the same quality as any chain. That crap is an insult to Italian Americans.

I live in Los Angeles and I still had Mineos pizza last night for dinner!! My boyfriend was in our hometown last week and managed to order THREE mineos pies (half cooked) and bring them onto the plane!! Now, we have authentic Mineos in the freezer for months!! I have to say that you just can not find that Pittsburgh taste anywhere in LA. It is seriously that good....

Exceptionally good pizza. Good dough, exceptional cheese and sauce. White pizza is out of this world, especially if you like garlic. Best in Pittsburgh; almost up with Uno's in Chicago and much better than Uno franchises.

Okay for Americanized Pizza. This place thinks it's the ruling neighborhood pizzeria, and the service is not great.\n\nOverall decent tasting pizza but it's heavy and expensive. I'm not sure it deserves all the hype surrounding it.\n

Mineo's Pizza House, located on Murray Avenue in Squirrel Hill and Washington Road in Mount Lebanon, has the best, most delicious pizza anywhere. The cheese is perfect, and has a soft, smooth, chewy texture and a salty taste. The sauce is nicely spiced. Our family's favorite combination is half pepperoni and half extra cheese. You should also try the White Pizza, which is superb.

Mineo's pizza is a very good local pizza shop. They have a great location that is easy to find and has lots of parking. Besides that they also make a very good pie. They in fact remind me very much of a traditional Italian pizza shop.
