I was really excited when I heard this market was opening, since it's close-ish to my house, and would mean I wouldn't have to run all the way across town to get some staples.

But when I visited the first time, I found it really odd. Mostly because the prices on most of my items were incorrect. Most of them were actually a lower price than marked, and it rang up on my receipt as "savings". So, while it's nice that the prices were lower than expected (which is good because it's really expensive), it's just really odd. I want to know exactly how much things cost so I know how it fits in my budget. I've already made my choices, obviously, by the time I'm at the registers. Why not put accurate prices on the items and/or shelves?! I might even buy more that way! Weird...

But, then things got way worse. The last 3 times I tried going there, I ended up walking out empty-handed. Firstly, when we walked in we were struck with the horribly putrid smell of off meat and fish. It permeated everything. We left immediately.

We went back a few weeks later, and same thing! I ran into an acquaintance who'd worked there, and he said that in the rush to open the store, they had purchased used coolers and freezers, and that many (most) of them were constantly going down/not functioning properly.

And, it wasn't just the meat and fish counters--we were going to buy some frozen food, but everything was covered in ice crystals--like it had been thawed and refrozen.

None of this seems safe to be selling.

And, I heard they're going to open another location! How about trying to get this one right first?

I won't be back...
