I've been dying to try this place, as an alternative to the chains (Q'doba, Baja Fresh, etc.) that have been popping up. We showed up on a Saturday during the posted hours of operation, though, around 2pm, and the place was locked tight with no notice as to why. Hope to get back there some time, but it would be nice if they were clearer about their hours.

El Cancun is located in an unassuming strip mall - you would totally miss it if you weren't looking hard for it. I've never waited for a table either, as the other reviewer said, but the place always has a good number of other patrons. I always go for one of the Pick-Your-Own combos - either 2 or 3 items + rice + refried beans. You can choose from enchiladas, tacos, quesidillas, tostadas, and more. The combos are less than $15. You also get delicious salsa and fresh chips when you sit down. I always fill up just on the chips - they're so good. This place has a huge menu, and everything I've ever tried has been great. There are combos for $15 that include 5-6 items + rice and beans.

El Cancun II is a comfortable place to go. It has great, friendly service. Its important to realize that this isn't tex-mex its mexican food, and its delicious -- take it from a native Texan. The salsa is the best I've found since being up here in PA. It has a nice spice and is fresh. The mexican rice is absolutely perfect, very well seasoned. And perhaps my favorite thing is the enchiladas -- any kind -- the sauce atop of them is amazing!! The menu has a great selection with something for everyone and with the portion size, the price is nice. I clean my plate everytime I go, which is at least twice a month, but you should judge for yourself!

Pros: Food, Service, Family Business, Price

Cons: If there is one...it'd be the location (strip mall)

We absolutely love this little BYOB in the back of hte K-Mart Shopping Center. Never had to wait for a table but always people there enjoying the great Mexican food. The con queso is to die for and the prices are great!

I've gone here approximately 6 times over the past year, always for lunch, as the "Mexican food" choice when I grow tired of the usual lunch spots. But at this point, I think i'm done going here - the food is just too tasteless to be worthwhile. I'm not talking about the level of "heat" necessarily (although, I haven't found much of that either), but any sort of depth of flavor, which Mexican food is known for.

I've tried burritos, enchiladas, rellenos and tamales, and they've all lacked any sort of flavor complexity. The last beef burrito I had, for instance, tasted like nothing more than browned beef in a tortilla - if there was any sort of spice or flavoring applied, I couldn't tell. On top of that, it was only covered in white queso, which has little taste. I'm not a fan of supermarket Mexican preparations, but honestly, those have more flavor than this place puts out. I've spent a lot of time in the mountain west, so I'm pretty well-versed in what even a basic Mexican-American "burrito & enchilada" place should taste like, and this ain't it.

The service has always been fine - sometimes friendly, sometimes uninterested. The decor is nice - festive.

In short, if you're absolutely dying for a Mexican meal, then fine - but I wouldn't expect much.
