.

We needed a place to have a nice dinner and celebrate my Mother in Laws's retirement. We Have been to the Gateway Lodge before and decided to make it special. We made a reservation to this 2 hour away destination. Because of our schedules we had to change it several times; they were very accomodating and understood. We finally settled on a fall weekend in October. Our Stay was wonderful. If you want your cel phone to work, if you want a flat screen TV on in the Lobby, If you want a large bar, if you want a fast, reliable internet connection, if you want valet parking GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! But, you CAN have a Fireplace in your room, some books, a Hot tub, (that is next to the fireplace), a glass of wine, and a fine dinner served in a Log Cabin atmosphere. This is a lodge in the woods!
.........Upon Arrival the lodge is nicely lit on a hill from the road. Making our way up the stone drive we saw a small waterfall and Squash, pumpkins, and other Fall items that were nicely placed about. Stepping onto the creaking wood deck we entered the check in area. We were greeted with a smile and explained who we were. Megan, The front desk girl, personally escorted us through the hotel for a quick tour and to show us our rooms. She could just have easily handed us a map and circled the rooms on a piece of paper like ALL Hotels do, but she did not.
....We settled in our rooms. We went for a walk in the woods down to the river. We came back to the main concourse. There was a real working fireplace with a chocolate fountain with fresh strawberries, pinapple, etc. Hot coffee and teas were also available. After some conversation by the fire, we then got some wine and beers and played pool. A server from the dining room came out to us and said they were ready. Dinner and wine pairings were simply awesome. We had salads, soups, and entrees, that I HAVE NEVER seen on a menu before. I loved the dinner atmosphere. That night it was quiet. No Children, No Hockey Teams, No wild teenagers. I might have heard a bear in the woods, but that was it ;) We had breakfast that morning with a custom made omelette.
.......I only wish dinner was paced a little slower. But other than that, I gave my mother in law an evening she will NEVER forget. My name is Lou Norman and this review is real.
