Great to have an independent book store in our town. Shelley does a lot to provide the community with events and information. I am very happy this store is in our community. Book club is lots of fun and we even have meet and great with local authors.

I first visited Harleysville Books in December of 2009. It's a small little store when you're used to the mega chain bookstores. I was shopping for Christmas gifts for family members (ages 3 to 31) and was able to find everything I was looking for, including goodies for myself. I didn't find their prices much higher than other stores for what I was looking for. I ended up spending $100 even and signed up for their rewards program. I was given a free book and a tote bag. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
I was impressed with their kid's section as they had a train table and other toys for the kids to occupy themselves. The staff was very nice with my son who was running circles around the store. I found out that they hold childrens programs and camps throughout the year in addition to their weekly story time. There are opportunities for older children as well.

I like that they have programs for all ages. As I noted, there are programs for children and there are book clubs and programs for adults. I really love the fact that they have their Recycled Book program. They allow to trade in used books for credit towards other used books.

Again, it is a small store and won't have the big selection that you'd find in a large chain, but it's a sweet little place with friendly staff. I also believe that it's very important to support local business.

My organization held our holiday fundraiser here last year and it was such a pleasure working with the staff. I had organized a similar bookfair/storyhour at another bookstore a few years before and while the event was successful, I found it difficult to work with the store's managers. What a relief it was to have the support of Harleysville Books staff. They were well-organized and answered my questions promptly. If you have a small non-profit, I definitely recommend working with them for fundraising.

Harleysville Books is a charming independent bookstore. I've been so impressed with the sheer number and quality of local authors that they bring to the store for readings and signings. Also, they are constantly organizing family friendly events like bingo and trivia. Yes, you may pay a little more than at the big box chain stores but the friendly personal service and the knowledge that you are supporting a local independent make it worth the extra dough.
