This family owned establishment has some small neighborhood charm. They post daily specials on a dry erase board out front and even leave out water for the neighborhood pets. The food is your typical greasy spoon fare served with Philadelphia pride.

Sandy's is my ideal hole-in-the-wall diner. The food is great, neither greasy nor overpriced. The breakfast food is great, and I'm not going to complain about paying $7 for eggs, [fluffy, delicious!!!] pancakes, choice of meat and a coffee! The lunch and dinner menu doesn't disappoint either. They make a decent cheesesteak, and they bake fresh turkey every day and it is delicious! And I love the ambiance. It's a tiny whole-in-the-wall place. The tables are small, but definitely big enough for all of your food. And the waitress is an adorable, sweet little Greek woman.
I much prefer Sandy's to the nearby Midtown Diner, which often disappoints.

I live nearby and have tried to go back to Sandy's 3 or 4 times after having been severly disappointed. It's just a little corner diner-y place, so my expectations weren't high to begin with. And I won't go on too much as I'm sure its fine for some for a quick greasy lunch or such. But they managed to put me off each time. The experience that sticks out is breakfast. I mean, how can you disappoint with breakfast? They did. My simple breakfast sandwich has - three times - involved greasy over-cooked eggs and tasteless (I'm guessing) week-old breakfast meat. And twice I got American cheese when I asked for something else. But my biggest complaint is prices. I get that its in the Fitler/Schuylkill Banks/Ritt district, so one should expect higher prices. But come on. $5 bucks plus for that crappy breakfast sandwich? Take my advice, find a sidewalk cart vendor over off Walnut or Market - you'll get the same food for half the price. I won't even go into lunch, and there's no way I would consider it for dinner. Lastly, if you're okay with harsh flourescent lighting and uncomfortable seats in a room that hasn't been redecorated since '78, go for it. Or better yet, head over to Midtown diner where there's at least some camp value.
