I called at 4:07 yesterday 5/7/10.The dentist office was closed. Must be nice. Any way, I canceled my follow up appointment because it was the same time as another important appointment I had made in advance. The Dental receptionist said they'd call me but today is Saturday. I expect to get a call on Monday to reschedule the appointment. Once I see the doctor, I will tell him my thoughts of the so called no big deal procedure I experienced last Wednesday morning. I am 100% certain the Doc will say... I am sorry you feel that way... and go about his business doing what he does... evaluate gum health.

I blame myself for being an uneducated consumer. I am no dummy but I was a fool for trusting the Doc without researching for myself first, this recommended procedure for 2 teeth with some recession at the gum line. But that being said, I am a fool only once.

When I go back to the dental office next week, I will tell the Doc if any further procedures are ever needed on my mouth ever again, I demand an alternative to cutting, just like it said in the insane CYA waiver he put in my face 2 minutes before beginning the surgical procedure. Why did he not tell me there was an alternative to surgery at our initial consultation regarding this matter of my gums? At our first consultation he made no mention of alternative procedures, no mention that recovery would or could impact my health in such a way that I would need to alter my work schedule for several days due to 2 massively blackened eyes, bruises all ove my cheeks, persistent swelling, and so on. (No I do not bruise easily) Nor did he mention that medication would be needed for pain or infection or anything. From my recollection of our consultation on the issue of my gums, he showed me extremely advanced gun disease photos... pictures of before and after the procedure (scare tactics for sure) and said it would be no big deal, "a couple of stitches and you will be back to work." I have a mouth fill of stitches, have been under ice packs for 3 days, and all of my appointments for my business are on hold until my face becomes somewhat normal again.

When I see the Doc. I will also tell him that his coworkers should be more considerate. Discussing bills and payment while a patient is in the chair, nervous, and vulnerable is bad bedside manner at best and gives the their patient an impression that the fee (for this extremely expensive gum cutting procedure) is of greater importance to the Dental office than the patient's well being. I understand dentistry is a business but business discussions have a place and time and money talk in the dental chair is despicable.

I am very disappointed in the way things occurred and I will communicate it directly to the Doc. Perhaps I will refer him to this review. I am pretty sure I am saying it all. I have a certain expectation of honesty and disclosure regarding medical recommendations.

I am very angry at myself for not doing my own research about this No Big Deal Procedure that has impacted my business, my health, and my trust in Modern Dental Concepts motives as a medical practice.

In light of all the reviews I have read, I am just a cog so to speak in the wheel. I hope my experience will serve to bring awareness to future consumers and I also Hope Modern Dental Concepts makes some effort to improve themselves regarding patient care.

Pros: Teeth cleaning is good.

Cons: Bu$ine$$ first patients 2nd

I made an appt. on short notice, this was one of the only places that could get me in. Once at the appt. the people were generally nice and while i did wait awhile, that seems to be typical at most dentist/doctors so nothing new there.

HOWEVER, i have never had such an uncomfortable time at a dentist. From the moment i got there they seemed to be in sell mode. After taking a ton of x-rays one dentist tells me i need all this expensive work and brings in this other dentist (from another office) as his helper to entice me to get this expensive procedure done at dentist number 2's office. It was very weird, i've never felt like a doctor or dentist was trying to take advantage of me until appt. Maybe the suggestions were legit I'm just saying I have never felt so awkward/uncomfortable by a doctor or dentist. Imagine the hard sell by a car sales person but in the dentist office. I didn't get the very expensive procedure but still according to them I needed multiple crowns, which i ended up getting, this ended up being pretty expensive and painful. I will never go back there.

I went to American Dental last year, and was given the same speech as others about needing "Deep Gum" cleaning when I had just come in for a routine cleaning. They said it would cost nearly 1000 dollars by the time everything was said and done.

I've only had one small cavity in my entire life, so I was suspicious and got a second opinion from a wonderful dentist on 5th and Market street. They said that this "deep" cleaning is only necessary for VERY bad cases of tartar, and can be risky and harmful when unnecessarily done. They also said that there was another patient who had come here after he had gone through the procedure recommended by American Dental, and had problems because of it.

Now, a year later, I have moved out of state and received a notice that my exam (from last year!) will not be covered because it was submitted over 12 months late. I am still working on resolving this, but American Dental has been no end of trouble, all for a teeth cleaning.

Pros: Close to my job

Cons: Charges for unnecessary services, billing problems

A hygienist in their other branch was trying to sell me a $800 electric toothbrush!!! OMG! I saw the same model in Target which is about $100-$150!

I had a bad experience with their other branch. I was charged with an expensive chairside crown but a lab made crown was used! Disgusted for their cheating!

I set up an appt for a cleaning - was really happy because i got an appt next day. I went in filled out some info and was brought back fairly swiftly. Then everything went wrong.
They started in on x-rays - 18 of them! the dental assistant x-raying me is jamming the plastic pieces in and cutting up the roof of my mouth. a couple times she managed to jam the xray machine into the little plastic piece so it further bashed into the back of my mouth. i'd also like to mention that i could view the pictures on the computer screen and she didn't seem to be taking very accurate pictures.
The doctor came in during the x-rays and goes on about the horrors of my teeth without any actual details and how a cleaning is out of the question and that i need much more serious work. At this point i'm very confused and mention that i just came in for a cleaning and my finances aren't the best - at which point he refuses to clean my teeth saying it would be "ma l practice" (without explaining why or telling me what my actual problem is) and so i asked if i should just leave since he won't work on my teeth? then he tells me that i should finish the x-rays so i can at least have them (huh?). so i meet the doctor up front after that and prod for more information and apologize if i've done something to offend him.
So he then tells me i need deep gum cleaning (huh - isn't that just another type of cleaning that's more involved and goes down under the the gums?). I mention that it is something i had done in the past year or two and can he give more info and i agree to get pushed into another chair to have it looked at and I am assured that I'll have more explanations.
now another separate but less rude doctor looks at me and then tells me i need the deep cleaning and should look into a form of laser cleaning as well. i say "this sounds very expensive" and again stress not wanting to go too far beyond what my insurance can cover. (she did ask me if i understood what needed to be done and was much nicer). So i say I'd like to skip the laser thing (supposed to happen 3 months after the deep gum cleaning), and inquire about the costs. she sets the procedure up in a computer at the front and hands it to one of the many front desk people to schedule and go over with me and leaves. Front desk guy shows me that the details and costs out of pocket for me would cost over $500+ and he's talking again about the laser. I asked if I could go with another option as my finances aren't in the best state and am told, no and that he couldn't set it up and didn't know how. I ask if the doctor can come back and explain what all the different charges on this long invoice are to me and why it's necessary as it seems extremely expensive and am given a blank stare and that this is what is suggested and basically I can sign off on it or leave. So I left - I find it hard to believe that with full unused dental insurance through aetna i need services to my teeth that will cost me over $500 out of pocket. I'm gonna get a second opinion and have no desire to give them another chance to extract money from either me or the insurance company.

Pros: umm it was next to my work

Cons: Extremely rude over priced and not cooperative

This practice can be crowded but overall gets the job done. The dental hygienists are good, but there should be more of them on staff -- sometimes the next opening for a cleaning isn't for months. The dentists are good. Overall, I've been going there for 10 years or so, so they must be doing something right.

I too was a new patient going to this clinic and was put off by the reviews on line but went anyway and am SOOO glad I did. The receptionists were lovely, my dentist was BRILLIANT (dr. Costello). I usually hate the dentist but I've been converted. I had four cavities filled today and didn't feel a thing. Can't recommend this office enough. Both my appointments were on time...no waiting. Receptionists were very nice and friendly. I've never written a review on line before but felt i really needed to so other people are not turned off going to this office by the bad reviews. Can't recommend this dentist enough!

I was nervous after seeing the other reviews here, but I had already made my appointment and it was close by, so i figured what the heck, I'm only going in for a new patient exam. I got there early, did some paperwork, the receptionists were nice. Got called back at the exact time of my appointment, xrays were done nice enough, and the dentist (dr. cross?) was actually very nice and friendly, and was very helpful in answering some general questions I had. I don't know anything about their prices cause my insurance covered it all, but they did have an optional cancer screening available for and extra $45, the paperwork ad for that was pretty gimmicky.."one person dies every second from oral cancer!", but who knows, it could be true, I decided against it anyways. Overall a very good experience.

from the minute i walked in the door this visit was a horrific experience. as if the rude old misogynisitic dentist yelling and threatening to slit his assistants throat weren't bad enough, the hygenist gave my the bloodiest and most rushed cleaning of my life. now it is one year later and i am having billing problems with them. the billing manager, ron said they never received payment from my insurance, even though i have proof from my insurance that it was paid. so my account was sent to a collection agency. now i am receiving multiple bills (all with different amt dues) for the exact same service insurance already paid. this visit has been an utter nightmare. questionable billing practices is the understatement of the year.

During my first visit, I was waiting for a long time and finally when I went to chair, Dentist was more worried to go out for Lunch rather than attending me. When reported some pain, just said that need to go for deep cleaning etc. and not bothered to listen the reason.
Instead of claiming the expenses with insurance, directly reported to credit collection agency with out even bothering to contact me.
Made so many calls and no proper response and just has to wait on phone for more than 10 min each time.

American Dental Care on Market Street has the worst customer service I ever experience. Every visit is an hour wait and their system seems to be always down. I had an appointment this morning and had to take half a day off from work. But when I showed up and waited for half an hour, American Dental Care told me that my dentist was out on maternity leave and no one can see me today. When I can't make an appointment, I'll make sure to give them a call. Obviously, American Dental Care does not respect their patient's time. They said they will "accommodate" me, but are they going to pay for the additional half day off from work? Or the parking lot I have to pay for again? Avoid this place. American Dental Care staff are rude and inconsiderate.

This is a very professional facility. The doctors are very concerned about patient well being. While they are not the cheapest facility in town, their prices are reasonable considering the top shelf, state of the art services they provide. This dental office is not geared towards the poor, but rather towards those who need expert services and have the ability to pay for it. I highly recommend to anyone who is willing to invest in their smile.

Avoid this place like the plague! They are rude, lazy, and mean. Every visit is at least an hour wait, and I have even had two times where they screwed up and never called me back to the chair. After confronting them, I was told they couldn't fit me in and I've had to come back! No apologies, not even a sorry look.

When calling to confirm an appointment, they will often ask you to call back because "their system is down." A receptionist confirmed to me that they use that phrase when they do not feel like searching their system.

They also overcharge and place mysterious charges on your credit card for electronic toothbrushes you never bought. I can't say enough bad things about this dentist, you are better off going anywhere but here.

My husband and I used this Dentist place, well thier Roxbourgh office and let's just say it wasn't our bad teeth that was leaving a bad taste in our mouth. The office manager Ron is rude and a liar, We were charged for a service we never got done and now the refuse to refund our money. They had us wait for over an hour to get our tooth extracted and the Dentists are not even friendly. When you have a proceedure done I would expect someone to walk you through it not ignore you and treat you like cattle by moving on to the next project. Be warned, They are not the best in town not even close.

I've had to wait for at least 45 minutes all four times I had an appointment here, two of which were on my lunch hour and I finally had to approach the counter and ask them if they would be seeing me anytime soon. Both times, the answer was "no," and I was asked to reschedule. When I did get to see the doctor, he told me I had a cavity in a tooth that was not bothering me at all and recommended that we fill it. Once I had the filling, it became incredibly sensitive, at which point the Dr. recommended replacing the regular filling with a medicated one. That didn't help, and he managed to break the back off my tooth when drilling out the old filling. Now, he says I need a route canal. I think I need a new dentist.
