This by far is the best place in the city of Philadelphia to get a cheese steak. Dalessandro's is the best. The rolls are always the softest and freshest around. The meat is never chewy and they add just the right amount of cheese. The staff is great and extremely friendly.

You walk in and you can hear the steak sizzling. The smell just gets your stomache rumbling.

Belly up to the counter and get your order in quickly. Wait time is normal unless its packed. I usually go after the lunch crowd so I can take my time.

Rolls are fresh and high quality, steak is salted perfectly. Not too much cheese.

Its a great steak because all the ingredients are top notch, the flavors are right and it doesnt sit in your stomache like a rock when you're done with it.

Pros: great bread, unbeatable meat, sauce and onion toppings are awesome, get peppers

Cons: you have to wait even when you call ahead.

My partner introduced me to this place. sandwiches are priced a little bit higher then most places, but trust me when I say there very well worth it. There not shy on the portions of meat they stack your steak with, Plus its very flavorable.

The sandwiches are very good. One main reason for the price they pack the sandwich with a lot of meat, no wimpy sandwich that is all bread. Everything we have had has been great. The only negative is we call in a big order one maybe two sandwiches may not be exactly how we ordered. But this is a must try place

Yes, the place looks like a hole in the wall. The seating is horrible, the parking is not much better. But who cares! When it comes to the cheesesteak itself, there is no place in Philadelphia (and therefore, the world) that has a better one. Words can not describe the taste - you just have to eat one to know that you are in cheesesteak heaven! Add the onions, forget the sauce, and just sit back and enjoy! You will probably want to order a 2nd one!

Forget Pat's and Geno's.They're not even close. I grew up eating "Deli's" and have missed them since I moved to the burbs. I stopped there on the way home from the Phillies parade with 4 friends, 1 veteran Deli's eater and 3 rookies. It was everything I remembered. Chopped light, perfect roll. All 3 rookies ate more than usual. I have to get back more often

Dalessandro's is a step back in time and a Roxborough tradition. It is always crowded at lunch time, but if you can, grab a seat at the counter and enjoy one of the best cheese steaks in the city. Seriously good stuff!!

I eat at Dalessandro's four times last week.
The place is still old but the food is more than great. The cheesesteaks are delicious, the meat is fatless and the service is friendly and fast. The parking is easy all day long on the street.
I will go there again the next time I visit Philly

Philadelphia is the cheesesteak capital of this country and everyone in this city has his/her favorite. Some head for Geno's; others to Pat's; still other's to Jim's. But Dalessandro's heads the list of many. Located in the Roxborough section, it's a bit removed from those in South Philadelphia but far closer for those who live in the suburbs. Dalessandro's sandwiches are "man-sized" and not easy to finish, at least for those of us with average appetites. They also cut their meat a bit differently, chunked rather than thin-sliced. But the taste is there. Try it.

I work nearby and lunch out quite a bit. When the sun is high, I hunger for MEAT!!!!! YUMMY MEAT!!...really Yummy MOUTHWATERING soft bread.

I've tried all the delis and steakhouse in a 5 mile radius in search for my quest. Without a doubt, D'Alessandros quenches my red meat cravings... time and time again.

Dale's use to be the best cheesesteaks in Philly (when it was family owned). Ever since St. Pats day Dale's was sold out of the family. It is now run by Greeks who are apparently cheep. The meat is fatty and the sauce is sub-par. If you go after 10PM many nights the roles are hard and sometimes even cold. Many of the original faces are now gone and have been replaced by mexicans (nothing against mexicans but its just not dalessandro's). RIP Dalessandro's, I am now starting a new life at Chubby's.

When you go to Philly, you get a cheesesteak. And when you want the best cheesesteak, you go to Dalessandro's. I've got the address programmed into my GPS and whenever I'm close (within 75 miles or so) I make the detour. They are that good. I also have to bring about 10 back to the folks up here in CT because there ain't no better. A day or two later when you heat em up right, they are just as good as the day they were made. Mmmmmm mmmmmm good! I've tried em all and there's no beating the original... Dalessandro's.

Overrated steak shop, Go to Chubby's. I've been eating cheesesteaks throughout the Philly area for decades now, oh and yes I'm born and raised. The best steaks aren't Pat's, Geno's, Jim's, or Dalessandro's, it's Chubby's across the street. The service is fantastic and sandwich is excellent. Good roll, quality chopped meat, great hot peppers, a nice sandwich overall that has both the quality and quantity. Go to this hidden away gem across the street from Dalessandro's.

If I had to choose a best cheesesteak, I'd go with Dalessandro's. Gooey Looey's would be a close second. Getting a cheesesteak with ketchup and a Wishniak is the way to go. It's highly addictive.

but not as great as Larry's on 54th Street. The place is incredibly filthy, but I didn't come here for the atmosphere. I ordered a cheesesteak w/ fried onions and ketchup. It looked delicious but it came to us almost cold. I couldn't taste the cheese and the meat was too finely minced to a point that it's was too mushy. I loved the humongous portions, the soft bread and the service. This place is MUCH better than those cheesesteak tourist attractions in South Philly but I prefer Larry's. I would rank Dalessandro's as #2 cheesesteak joint.

I've toured all of the Philly Cheesesteak establishments, trying to discover the best overall cheesesteak out there. And I thought that Dalessandro's steak's is pretty average. The quantity is definately big, which is a plus. The roll is pretty good, but the quality of the meat was slightly below average. All in all, I would classify it as an average cheesesteak compared to Pats or Genos. And inferior to cChink's steaks, which is by far the best that I have tasted.

The biggest difference is the freshness, the bread is fresh, the cheese is melted on top (not like pat's or geno's) and the meat comes fresh off the grill and into your hands. The meat doesn't come from a vat like at the other high volume cheesesteak places. The bottom of the roll doesn't get soggy and there is no hype in the name, just good cheesesteak.

I bring visitors to Philly to several cheese steak places and Dalesandro's always wins out, hands down. Nowadays, whenever I am in the Philly area I take home 3 or 4 - besides the one I eat there - so I can relish the taste as long as I can!

You can keep those South Philly cheesesteaks ----never was impressed anyway. Now Dalessandro's knows how to make a cheesesteak!! The rolls are always fresh and the steak is cooked to perfection. Actually, the first time I had a Dalessandro's steak was in Aspen, CO (transported in by die-hard fans) and I have been hooked ever since. Every time I visit Philly from the West Coast we go to Dalessandro's. Simply the BEST.
