Extremely unsatisfying! If you want to pay $40 for 10 oz. of poorly cooked over-salty fish, then be my guest. Everything was salty from the spinach to the seafood. When it comes to "chain" seafood restaurants, I'd rather go to McCormick and Schmick's. And actually, if you factor in value, Red Lobster is even a better bet! Just overpriced for bad food. Very pretentious environment with a snotty wait staff!!! If I'm the one leaving YOU a tip, you'd figure the service would be a lot more courteous, but it isn't.

I visitied the restaurant during restaurant week. Our wait wasnt long we were seated immediately. While they have a huge menu for a regular day, for restaurant week it is very limited, I expected this however I was not expecting just to receive 2 crab cakes for dinner, although they were good, I could have gotten at least 2 pieces of asparagus or maybe some string beans. The bread was very good and the bread pudding for dinner was excellent. Our waiter chose a good choice for a wine and it complimented my dinner very well. I will be returning to this restaurant.

My husband and I celebrated his birthday at Oceanaire during a magnificant evening. The food was superbly cooked, seasoned and delicious. The atmosphere of Oceanaire was tip-top. Not only is it a beautiful restaurant, but the attitude, behavior and skill of the staff are all exactly as they should be at a fine restaurant, and friendly. There is a nice casual dining area outside, which seems popular.
We were welcomed, taken to our table, and our waiter was there immediately. If you want excellent service without feeling overwhelmed, ask for Evan; he was an excellent waiter, and had a goodsense of humor that we appreciated. He knew his job and did it very well, never making a misstep or mistake.
We enjoyed the bread, butter and fresh cut crudites that were served upon our being seated. We ordered drinks, my husband ordering a very good wine by the glass reasonably priced, and took our time studying the impressive menu. Making our choices was difficult, for we each wanted several of the offerings. I ordered a superbly grilled and seasoned Coho salmon, and my husband ordered halibut served with pieces of lobster and other flavorful additions. We shared a side of excellent spinach, which was more than enough for us. Since the entrees weigh about 10 ounces each, it?s easy to overeat, and tempting. Dessert was exceptional and delicious.
We both enjoy cooking, and have eaten in many top-caliber restaurants in this country and in Paris and London. We are happy to have a seafood restaurant of this quality in Philadelphia. We will return, and there is a special menu for theatre-goers. We recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting excellently cooked fish and seafood, good service, and a pleasant ambiance without over-pretentious service.
It was fun to eat dinner with the sounds of the 30s and 40s big band music in surroundings that are reminiscent of luxury cruises of that era. We highly recommend Oceanaire to you, and wish you bon appetit.

Ok, first of all the place itself is stunning and the fact that they took a building that was empty for 20+ years and did something this grand is unbelieveable. The fish is definetly the highlight here--- they do have some classic seafood type stuff but go for the chef's specials. 14 specials on a Friday night. Who does that? Ala carte dining, so you can really make as many courses as you wish. Tip-- stop at the oyster bar first. Don't miss out on this restaurant--- I've seen some of the less than favorable reviews online here and am shocked. Never had bad food or service--

The atmosphere is nice but a little bland for my taste and when you walk in there is a slight seafood odor. We waited for about twenty minutes before being seated even though we had reservations, which ultimately was not fair. When we were finally brought to our table after repeated complaining, the table was not set. We waited to get any service at all. Between the time we ordered our entrees and actually got them must have been a good hour and a half. We kept asking our waiter how far along our meal was and he always said "two minutes maximum". The manager ended up taking off the entrees from the check. When the entrees arrived, they weren't as delicious as we hoped. When we recieved our check, there was a dessert on the list we didn't order. I understand that this place is fairly new and I think over time it will get better. In a while, I might try this place again.

This was a mother's day I would like to forget. While we had a reservation, we had to wait for 20 minutes with a toddler, while others, who just walked off the street were seated before us. When we finally complained, we were seated. However, an hour after ouir order was taken and an hour and a half after we had sat down, while people at the next table who arrived 40 minutes after us were getting up to leave after paying their check, our entrees arrived. The tuna which was ordered rare was not. And it was not sushi grade either. It was tepid and chewy . Not worth any wait, much less the wait we had to endure. The manager wound up sprining for our entrees. But even so, the experience was not worth either the wait or the free food. And at that, we spend $120.00 for 3 drinks and appetiser for 3!

Went here with a large group and had an amazing time. The service was timed well. All the seafood dishes were done perfectly...but watch the meat dishes, as they cooked them just a tad more than desired. But only a tad, nothing to harm the dish at all. All the portions are large, so keep that in mind, too. The servers made really good recommendations. It's a breathtaking space to dine in. Overall, a really great dining experience.

I made reservations for 7pm way in advance for my father's birthday this past Saturday night. We ended up waiting for our table for 45 minutes. Then, when we were taken to our table we saw there were several empty tables and people waiting in the bar/lounge area to be seated...none of which looked happy. The seafood & dessert were good (do not get the Caesar salad though because it was the worst I've had). However, I will never return because I don't like waiting 45 minutes to be seated with reservations and then dropping $300+ for a meal and drinks . Also, the host continued to lie to us about how long we would have to wait. There are too many good restaurants in Philly to waste time and money here. I would have left after 20 minutes if it weren't a special occasion. Get with the program Oceanaire!

Simply the worst dining experience I've had in a long, long while. I had booked reservations far in advance for Friday night, Feb.3 at 9PM. We arrived 15 minutes early, and were immediately taken back by the fact that there were MANY booked customers yelling and screaming at the host about how long they've been waiting for their (reserved) tables. The host was just arguing right back at the (many) ticked-off customers! We found out in a few minutes that everyone in the bar area were in the same situation...some who had reservations) had been waiting for 90 minutes or more, with no remorse (or complimentary drinks) from the staff whatsoever. We waited for nearly an hour for our reservations (yes, we complained and were told it would be "any minute") and finally wound up leaving for a another (Steven Starr) restaurant that was able to treat us the way a customer expects to be treated. I don't like being lied to by a host just to sit around and wait for "any minute". I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS RESTAURANT, and I bet many others who were there that Friday night will be either. THERE WAWS NO EXCUSE FOR THIS! DO NOT GO TO OCEANAIRE UNLESS YOU LIKE ABUSE!!!

The Oceanaire is located in an imposing building on Washington Square. The interior is designed to look like an old fashioned ocean liner with lacquered and wooden paneling and curved ceilings. The bar seems to attract a fairly sophisticated crowd and features a variety of mixed drinks and a raw bar. The menu is vast and full of fresh ?catch of the day? fare prepared in a variety of ways. The wine list is well paired and reasonably priced.
I should mention that while The Oceanaire has a nice atmosphere, it is missing something. It tries to be the ?Palm? of seafood and comes very close to accomplishing that, but the food leaves much to be desired. Although very fresh, and well presented, it is prepared in a very unimaginative way. And perhaps that is exactly what the restaurant is going for- standard, unpretentious fare. If that is the case it accomplished that well. Not every restaurant has to wow us with its culinary inventiveness. Nevertheless, The Oceanaire is a nice addition to Philly?s restaurant scene.

This restaurant is breathtaking from the vaulted ceilings to the art-deco charm of a Big-band era supper club. Even the bathroom is complete with terrycloth hand towels for each guest. The food is superb and the service was pleasant. The management and the hostess were trite, but that is to be expected when dining in this calibur of a venue. Prices were moderate for a city restaurant as were the portions. The crab cakes were all lump and absolutely scrumptuous. The size of the venue (accomodating over 400) is a bit overwhelming for a Philadelphia restaurant but none the less, flattering. Perfect place for an impressive date or special occation. I will definately return.

I went to this while on a business trip in Minneapolis and thought it was great. I never could understand why we didn't have one here (the closest one beofre this is in D.C.) I haven't been yet but now that I know it's here, I'll definitely be going soon.
