I've been to around 60 countries and have visited more clubs and bars around the world than most people can dream of...and I've never been to a worse one than G-Lounge. I've been there a few times with different groups of friends who wanted to try it and have never had a good time. It's way too expensive and filled with total wannabes. - poor black guys who wanna be rich white guys and poor white girls who wanna be black prostitutes. Everyone is ugly and nobody wants to have a good time - they just wanna stand around with their overpriced drinks and pretend that they are better than they are. What a shithole!

Pros: Nothing

Cons: Expensive, filled with wannabes, staff

If you feel like waiting in a line for a long time to enter a club that a person says he owns but he really does not. LETS BE REAL!!! Not only is he a phoney but a liar and cheater. The place is really for prostitutes, so women keep your men at home. The VIP host will bang you because she thinks you have money. The truth about this place will soon come out. Just another lounge in philly that will fall to ground.

This is the best dance club/lounge in Philly. I guarantee you won't find a classier, fun, great music, crowd (sometimes), and staff/bouncers.

There are definitely other cheaper, prob a little more fun places but you won't find anything similar to G Lounge. I've been going here ever since it opened and never had a bad time.

First Fridays are House/Trance/Techno otherwise its a great mix of music.

Enjoy this place now because soon it will be GONE. As the economy corrects itself (read: no more credit/easy money) people are once more CONSCIOUS of what they spend their hard earned money on. $20 cover charges and $17 drinks are NOT gonna fly in Philly much longer. They never have, they never will. It was a BUBBLE and it has burst. The sheeple are losing their homes, jobs and everything else. This place, like the many others that sprang up in this area in the past 6 years were meant to cater to the Nevou Riche d*che-bags that are now FORECLOSING and LOSING THEIR JOBS. With the "new rich" sheeple going BROKE, this menas Philly will revert to the OLD Philly (ie before 2002) - and prior to that time the highest you could ever pay for a beer in this city was $3. And THAT was pushing it. $20 cover? Biggie Smalls and Michael Jackson better be up in there. I ain't payin' a cover for Dj Mash-ups and MC nobody from Bucks County. Mook bouncers? I don't think so. This is a bar, not a CLUB - there is no REAL dance floor, just your typical dance 'area' next to the bar where the fakes can pose for their facebook photos and pretend to be having fun. Here's an idea - why not be REAL instead of being FAKE? Oh that's right because the "owner" (read: the loser who RENTS this place from the real owner) is a FAKE himself. Crash and burn. I know many of you reading this review are not from philadelphia (ie transplants) but 6 years ago and prior there were NEVER any "hot spots" in this area (ie walnut street, chestnut street, or rittenhouse square) - IT WAS NEVER A "SPOT" There were a few nice restuants on the SQUARE (Devon for instance) but there was no Pearl, G lounge, Alfa, WalnutRoom, Mansion, One, Byblos, Vango... none of this was there - nor was ANY bar or 'club; there.. This is a gentrified area catering to FAKES from the Midwest who have NO CLUE as to where they are. Rest assured when you see this place boarded up in a few months, know this is the reason why

Pros: Silver-back gorrila uncle-t*m bouncers at the door - oh wait thats not a pro!

Cons: everything - it is a disgrace to America

This place is for a certain kind of person. In other words, the metrosexual male and female. Therefore, I can understand how some people might hate it. If you don't like getting dressed up and looking nice (i.e. dress shoes, nice ironed shirt, maybe a sports jacket) don't go here. Also, you're probably going to spend more money than an average night at a local tavern because the drinks are not cheap. With that said, the people who come here are beautiful and classy, and there is a multitude of beautiful ladies. The music is great and it definitely has a hollywood/vegas type vibe. It is the new "hot spot" in town. There are no signs outside telling you where it is, just a line, so I can see how some people might have a hard time finding it. When you get inside there is plenty of room to mingle, and it was much larger than I had envisioned. The decor is also very nicely done. The owner must have hired a very good interior decorator. Definitely check it out if you haven't already.

Cons: Expensive, some pretenciousness

G-lounge has the best ambience in the city, great music and quality drinks. The venue itself deserves 5 enthusiastic stars. However, the way that it is managed and the crowd that it attracts takes away three stars.

The first star is for attracting ?live beyond your means? type of guys. I could not help but chuckle when guys would come in with expensive watches yet frayed jeans (is it that hard to buy the appropriate length jeans!?!) and Nunn Bush-quality shoes and tell the bouncer ?I will pay anything to get into here.? Nonetheless, I would recommend this place to young women who don?t like paying for their own drinks or are looking to meet a guy who will spend, spend, spend on them.

The second star is for attracting ?live beyond your natural age? type of girls. There are some very attractive women that come to G-Lounge. Unfortunately, it seems like their moms are also coming, spending thousands of dollars on tables in the VIP to show off how Botox and lots of makeup can deceive the untrained eye after a few drinks. My friends are all attractive, young professionals (doctors, attorneys, consultants, MPS sales reps, etc.) and this was by far the worst place to meet classy women (our ages) in Center City.

The final star is for having a FAKE line in that they intentionally keep people waiting outside so that they can a) make it look like the hot spot in town and b) have two other lines where people can pay even more to get in. Don?t get me wrong, they make a lot of money having it, but it?s a bit infuriating to wait half an hour, to pay $10, to get into a place that?s only about a third full.

In short, this place radiates ?TRY-HARD.?

Cons: The type of crowd, FAKE Lines

This place had a great vibe. I don't know what everyone is talking about, the staff is VERY friendly. As for that girl that called the owner fat you must be talking about someone else. He is very nice and professional (not fat at all). The DJ was great!! As for it being pricey so are a lot of other places in Philly. Which in my opinion isn't bad a lot of places in Philly easily turn trashy. Im all for a place thats keeping it classy.

hahaha someone clearly has a personal vendetta against the owner. i've met him a bunch of times and he's always been really nice. and i highly doubt he "pick up" you. He was probably just trying to be nice....good luck seeking council when the offense is flirting....

While many people have been criticizing G on this site for "rude service" and high prices, i will have to disagree with them. I have been going to G since it opened last year and have never been confronted with anything other than respect and smiles all around. If you want to go to a club that looks the way G does, and serves what G does, no matter where you go in the country, it is going to have a higher price tag than venues that aren't as high-end. If they weren't charging people what they are, G wouldn't be able to continue to have the service that they do and it wouldn't be able to look as good as it does. Also, not that I love spending 14 dollars on a drink, but i must give G credit that at least they put a more substantial amount of alcohol in their drinks than most places, and it's good quality liquor. Also, I know that all restaurants and clubs can have off nights, but i would seriously recommend giving G another shot, as they have now been in business for a longer period of time and regarding their service, probably have their stuff more together now.

Cons: Wait in line, Cover for Men

Me and my girlfriends were bored so we went to G [it stands for gross yuk and double yuk] the standing out front to make it seem like you are waiting to get in a hot ny city club was ridiculous. there were not even enough pepole to make up a line. So we go in and this a#$&()*%e named Mark tried to pick up me and every thing that had on a skirt. To start with what a pretentious jack A@#. Boy did he think he was somthing he is nothing You need a diet fat boy He reminded me of some loser that was from Greys Ferry or Kennsington back in the real low life days. Me and my friends just wanted a relaxing time, not some Saturday night fever 1977 dump.To have some loser who in no way owns the place running around trying to pick up on every female and throwing around iam the owner line! Also coke has been out since the 1980s dumb dumb .Some numb nut moran backer who must rocks in his head or to much coke in his head got conned into lending this creep the money for this bad investment[ somebody is going to lose more then their shirt on this dump!. This place will be closed within a year. for sure. I am thinking of seeking legal council about WHAT HE DID.

I broke up with my girlfriend about a month ago. She i very well known in the city and very networked. I decided to take my entire family and friends along with my new girlfriend to G to celebrate my dads anniversary. I spent $1300 in the VIP at G where i was made to give both my ID and my Credit Card. When i went to leave after a few drinks i asked for my tab, paid and left. I was never reminded by my server that i had my Id and Card still with her.
Of course when i tried to call no one was available. This was a friday, i didnt get ahold of anyone till tuesday after numerous messages. When i did i was told by someone that he was looking for it but all he could find was my credit card, no ID.
I called my X who im still friends with who called and flipped out at the staff about how unprofessional it was for someone to lose an ID.

Her manager friend calls her back and says " I know how unprofessional this is but...We thought he was cheating on you so we lost his ID. And of all people to come get it back it was you."

2 Days later my ID appeared out of nowhere, so i have it now.

This is the type of staff that the G lounge has working for them.

The owners did well to bring a piece of New York City to 17th Street- a trendy flashy space with post-modern decor("ooh, repeating light patterns on the wall") and extremely rude service and ridicuously high prices. Upon entering I had to say something so the mongo bouncer would remove the arm he put around my shoulder. Walking in I began to head around the line that I didn't realize was for paying( I have a sprained ankle so trust me when I say 'I began') as there are two sides to the small staircase leading down into the club. Very slowly getting about two feet, mongo (use your voice dum***) lept at the oppurtunity to jump out at me. I shouldn't have to yell at a bouncer on entering any club. The cashier girl was equally as rude when I asked if the tickets given on entry at street level were for free drinks, especially with the high cover( they were given simply to count all the fools who entered as turnover is their only aim). All in all a pleasant welcome that will ensure I will never return, especially since THIS IS A BUSINESS only, as sterile and corporate as ING or Stephen Starr. The music was decent at times, but the dj's best skill was fading to the next tune and he kept using J-Z's 'Black Album' as a standby. Good album, but a dj session is not a listening party. The drinks were ridiculously priced(15 for a beer and a jack and coke) and the people, with every other room or seating area reserved for bottle service, were mostly the same as the venue- all surface. Many a shi* club in New York to charge obscene prices with rude and pretentious staff while picking at peanuts on the quality of music, and now we have another such place here.

There are many places in Philly that are about the music- find them instead.

Cons: Obscene prices on cover and drinks, rude bouncers and staff, subpar music, esp for the price

This is my first review on this website and unfortunately, it is not a good one. Words can not really describe the type of rude, unfriendly atmosphere this place is. It started with the totally disrespectful bouncers near the door and did not get much better inside. We only stayed about twenty minutes and that is just because the dj was pretty good. I could not take the snobby attitudes from the bartenders and the power-trips by the bouncers. Very disappointed and will not be paying G another visit in the near future.

This is my first time writing a review but when I looked up this place on the web after recommendation by a friend it says "no cover nightclub" except it's $10 for girls and $20 for guys. Why advertise no cover with such an expensive price to get in? AND mixed drinks are $15 a piece (ie jack and coke). What the F?

Otherwise it's a really cool atmosphere with good music and adequate room to dance and mingle, but they NEED to do something about the drink prices. Come on now!!!
