Fresh, tasty food and a cozy, comfortable atmosphere make dinner time on Fridays and Saturday nights at the Cafe special. On two visits over the past month, we were delighted by the chef's attention, the relaxed tempo of the meal, and the food (just-right-sized portions). The food has been quite good and the menu, while limited, provides good choices (meat/seafood/vegetarian) and embraces the season's farmers market offerings. Worth the wait for the weekend!

It's sad that this little breakfast and lunch operation is so little known outside of Bellefonte. The location is wonderful as it is right across from Talleyrand park and has outdoor seating that is over a lovely little canal. Typically they are open til ~3 pm, but its one of those places that closes when they run out of food. One of the really charming things about this cafe is that they hand mix their sodas like in the old days. They also bake fresh pastries and deserts every day and vary them. The one knock is that rarely (and I mean rarely) you might get a fill-in waitress who is bumbling at best. That being said we go regularly and 90% of the time or more have the same charming and competent waitress. The roasted tomato and red pepper soup is the most unbelievable soup in the area (and I loathe tomato soup). They also make a triple decker club sandwich that is fantastic and a cucumber and red onion salad as a side that is unusual and flavorful without having a strong taste of vinegar or onions. Definitely go when the weather is nice and you can sit out side after a nice stroll in the park to see the ducks and fish in the main canal but even in winter this place still is worth the trip.
