I'm sure this was a good restaurant at one time. I cannot imagine how they kept a good reputation though.

Italian food is supposed to be flavorful. I was stunned at the blandness. I could not make tomato sauce bland if I tried. It was very disappointing. Also, how do you serve mediocre bread in South Philly?????

The service was bad. Our waitress handed at least four of our dinners to the person closest to her and left it to us to pass plates around until it got to the right person. Why not, instead, take two steps and place the plate in front of the person who ordered it?

Is the service bad when the waitress does not return to ask you if everything is OK?

Is the service bad if the waitress cannot remember who ordered what?

I won't go there again. I can get better food and service for half the money at my local pizza shop.

Finally it is beyond me how people think this place gives large portions.

At least my pasta wasn't overcooked. That's about the only good thing I can say.

Marra's is a neighnorhood staple forever! Great authentic Italian cuisine, cozy atmosphere. As an Italian-American being at Marra's makes you feel like being at the Sunday dinner table with family! Mangia!

Where do I begin? I remember eating at Marra's as a child and through my high school years. So they came to mind one night when I wanted some pizza delivery. BIG MISTAKE!! Not only did I wait an hour and 15 minutes for my pizza, when I called to check the status, the guy said it would be here shortly and hung up. When I called back he told me to "Take it easy." When the pizza finally arrived it was the wrong order and they forgot my soda. To top it all off when I called to complain, the guy said he could replace it but it would take another hour. When I said that was unacceptable his reply: "What do you want me to do about it?" ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! I got my money back and ordered from somewhere else. I don't care how good people say they are, nothing is worth that kind of aggravation.

You just can't beat Marra's for excellent Italian food, and the prices are very reasonable. I've been patronizing Marra's since my youth (39 years old now) and it has consistently provided incredible food. I'm usually with my family and we get a brick oven pizza and an antipasto (or mediterenian0 as appetizers and I am addicted to the chicken Florentine. Always friendly staff- real South Philly, yo!

some people say that the service is horrible...I say that is he said she said. Why? Because some never explain their answer... The service isn't "horrible" because you may have to wait longer than some resturaunts...the only reason why the wait is longer is because people enjoy the resturaunt in general. Obviously if it is a well-liked resturaunt, It's not going to be dead. Yes, people may wait but take into consideration that the place is crowded, they don't have TONS of staff, they make fresh food that is very good and have reasonable prices...actually exceptionally reasonable prices and it's good Italian food and traditional,so why WOULD'NT people go there? That's why you may have to wait....but it is totally worth it.

My family and I drove down to Marra's before the Phillies game last night and were treated to exceptional service by Rosa, our waitress. She made us feel like we were back at my grandmother's house -- and the food matched her service! Family-oriented, familar, not stuffy and cozy! I can't wait to come back!

Marra's is a great restaurant. They have wonderful pasta dishes as well as superb brick oven pizza. Their canoli's are out of this world. The best, lightest canoli's I've ever had. You can listen to great old music while you eat (Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra). The service is also wonderful. This is a great place to bring 15 people. It's like a big Italian family get together.

We have been coming to Marra's for about two years and until this summer I would have given it 5 stars. However, the last two times we went there, we had terrible service and below average food. Our waitress was almost invisible. We had to wait over 40 min. for our pizza and when she brought it out it was burnt. We had finished our waters and our wine, but she never came by to ask if wanted our glasses filled. When we were done eating we had to flag down another waiter to find our waitress so we could get our bill. This all on a fairly quiet weeknight.

The place smelled funny. And it wasn't a food smell, which is always a little alarming in a restaurant. After waiting for a waiter to appear for 15 minutes, we left before we could even place an order. I can't really comment on the food, but if the kitchen is run anything like the front of the house, I'd bet it's pretty lousy.

I USED to love going here, It reminded me of Family style Italian resturaunts like my family owns in upstate NY.
Huge portions, good food really cheap, consistant quaility, italian comfort food....

Last time we went with four friends, seated quickly 10 minutes on a friday night, our orders were taken promtly and read back to us. When the food arrived the waitress tossed it all on the table and abusively said " you figure it out" then ran off. Most of our order was not present, she didnt care, I reminded her that we ordered garlic bread with cheese but 20 minutes later I was sitting with a stone cold bowl of mussels and no bread! Everyones dish was not as desribed on the menu and sides/salads did not arrive.

No apology, no aknowledgement, NO TIP. never again

Pros: comfort food in large portions

Cons: Crappy waitstaff/ overworked busboys/ bad management

I loved their shrimp scampi, but all the other pastas, (we ordered a couple of them) tasted just about the same. Just about average. I would tell my college friends to go there just because they're cheap and the portions are big.

I have been to Marra?s a couple times for the pizza which is pretty good but I strongly suggest staying away from anything else on the menu. I ordered Chicken Parm which was not cooked at all totally raw on the inside. My husband ordered the Baked Ziti but instead received the Manicotti which was not very good, way too cheesey. I have to say the bus boys are the hardest workers in the whole restaurant they are on top of everything and pick up a lot of the waitresses slack because they are VERY slow. If you are going stick to the pizza!

Philadelphia does not have good pizza. Comming from Jersey, North Jersey, the pizza capital of the world, simply put--Philly pizza doesn't even come close------------except for Marra's. This is truly on par with and even better than some places in Jersey. This truly is a gem. Well worth it.

Marra's has excellent pizza - quite possibly the best in Philadelphia, which is saying a lot coming from a native Philadelphia who's quite picky about his food. A must-try - don't be put off by reviews saying the service is bad, cuz it's worth it. Get a pizza here and you will remember this place forever.

I took 21 people to Marra's last night and it was perfect. Most of the group had never been there and some can be picky, but they all enjoyed it. Food was great as always, service was first rate and it's a fun place. Also a great value. Make sure you make a reservation for a large group.

After hearing how great it was, we decided to try Marra's on a Sunday night. Service was mixed - the food coming out was quick but had to ask twice for red pepper and oregano even though there was only one other table there at the time. She just forgot.

We had the appetizer plate with some meats, artichokes, mushrooms, tomatoes. Bland, tasting like they did nothing but open the can of artichokes and mushrooms. Tomatoes were fresh, though. The bread was decent but no oil. My husband had tortellini and enjoyed it (decent, but nothing spectacular). I had spaghetti with marinara and it was the worst I'd ever had. It tasted like they opened a can of crushed tomatoes and poured it on top of the pasta - no flavor at all (which is why I asked for the pepper and oregano - anything to add some flavor).

Maybe we should have gone with the pizza people rave about. But all in all, with so many Italian restaurants in that are, we won't be back. While it is cheaper, I'd rather pay a couple bucks more (it's not that much cheaper) and get something that has flavor.

I always try to find an excuse to go to Marra's. I love the food. I never have had a problem with the service. I stay is a bit long because the food is made fresh. You have to just relax and have a good time. It's a very relaxed place. I suggest making reservations for a larger party (over 4 people) because the wait can be a bit long. If you have never been there it is a MUST try.

We found Marra's from CitySearch. Our first visit provided GREAT FOOD and a $50 bill for 2 adults and 1 child! The problem was the wait, and the time of the "total dinner experience", that is to say from the time we were seated to the time we paied the bill was just over 2 hours. I blame part of that on the poor service, part on preparing fresh food, and part on being crowded.

The portions are small but the food, all 2 apps, ceaser and pasta was wonderful! We left at 10am, and there were still people flooding in, and waiting up to an 1 hour for a table!

My husband and myself NEVER miss this one. Each Philly trip, we always have dinner here at least once. The Alfredo is to die for, my husband is a big fan of the Mussels. Great little cozy booths, with history all over the walls, and the portions can't be beat. We live in DC, and I always can't wait to eat there!!!! Everyone we know headed in that direction, I direct them there.

Before dining along Easy Passyunk in South Philly was trendy, Marra's was there. Family owned since 1927, it is a good family-friendly spot for brick-oven pizza, complete with old school crust that never disappoints. You can't go wrong…
