Okay, here's the deal. I've been a patient for almost 15 years!!!
Yes, there is a problem speaking to a human being in an
expeditious manner - but you WILL get through - and, as long as
your not asked to hold again, your on a roll. When u finally get through,
you are helped in a nice manner.

Now, you come into the office. The front desk staff are nice - nothing to brag about, but
okay. No, hello maa'm - Good afternoon - something like that when u come in the door.
and, YOU have to figure out that u must sign the sheet. Noone will tell u. sorry...but, good
stuff is coming.

Now you wait, they call your name in less than 5 minutes for the checkin - (you give them your money
- co-payment and stuff.
Now, they call you in for weight check in - temperture check etc. The MA's there have ALWAYS been very nice for some reason. They do very well hiring those staff members.

After your visit with the medical assistant, you sit and they call your name quickly to be taken into an exam room. Now, you can catch up on a book or something, because you are going to wait for at least 20 minutes. But it's still all good....

In comes your doctor. I suggest that you write down everything you want to discuss with your doctor. Because if not, you will be bum=rushed out!!!

Now, this may not seem like a good review, but ALL the doctors in Philadlephia run their business this way. If you know of a doctor who takes their time to actually LISTEN to you, please let me know!!

Thanks

My spouse and I both have both gone to Mt. Airy Family Practice for years and we highly recommend it. The doctors have always been competent and friendly. When my great aunt got ill and came to live with us a few years ago, she got her local medical care from Dr. Lewis. She said she wanted to take him home with her when she left!

I am not sure what to make of the comments about racism. Many of my neighbors use this practice and I have only heard positive comments, from both blacks and whites. The couple next door(two women) have started going there and told me they are thinking of switching their kids there because they feel so welcome. I am glad we have this practice in our neighborhood.

Pros: competent medical care, nice staff

Cons: they are not vets, too

I have had a great experience at Mt Airy Family Practice. I have been a patient for over 10 years and am proud to have them in our neighborhood. The staffs customer service has been poor in the past, but I think they have a good crew now. They are busy at the front desk, but always nice. I like that they are on the cutting edge with their electronic records and having appointments available the day I call. I prefer seeing Dr. Good in person rather than over the phone. Before moving here from the midwest I had a doctor that managed a problem for over 6 months by phone. It turned out I had a cancer that probably would have been detected if he had examined me. I feel my husband and children get great care there as well. I am pleased with their web based system to request referrals. I have had no problems with referrals to my oncologist or for x rays since they started the web referral system. I am happy to report I have been cancer free for over 5 years and feel this is in large part due to the excellent , compassionate care I have received at Mt Airy Family Practice!!!

Pros: Ease with getting appointments, web based referral requests

Cons: Dr Good is often running late, but she is worth waiting for

My wife and I have been going to AFP for a couple of decades. We are both white, and tour experience gives no grounds for an earlier reviewer's "they hate white people." Our care has been fine. The staff are not chatty -- they're busy with insurance company paperwork, for heaven's sake! -- but I've never experienced them being rude. Sometimes we need to keep on top of administrative things like referrals, but mostly they get things right the first time, like faxing prescriptions to the correct pharmacy. No billing problems that I recall. And I love knowing that they'll be ready for me at my appointment time, since I'm now coming over from the Far Northeast. Have been for ten years, and never motivated to find another primary care place. I like their use of electronics, too. For my last physical, I was able to fill in a history form online, which sure enough was there on the doctor's lap top when he saw me.

Pros: Medical competence, pleasant office, little waiting

Cons: Sometime a little instutional

I wouldn't send my dog to this place. What a bunch of morons...the office staff is terrible! They need to fire every single one of them and start over. The doctors are ok but nothing to write home about! The staff hates white people! They treat you like trash as soon as you walk in the door! They have no time for you and in all my years of going there ...I never had a good experience ...not once! A family practice is a joke! They need to really reevaluate what they're doing. They are the laughing stock of Mt. Airy! I haven't met anyone yet who has liked going there. Trust me....you have to be really desperate to get any help at this place.....they can't even spell and forget phone calls.....they are more rude because they can't see you and you can't see them so they're willing to go a step further to make you furious! I wouldn't go to this place if it was the last place on earth. One more thing...you tell the doctors about it and they just laugh it off....they could give two you know whats if you were treated rude....they're rude too!

Pros: Walking out the door to go home!

Cons: Walking in the door and seeing the horrendous staff staring you in the face!

I love the idea of a neighborhood family practice office- your doctor actually knows you, you can walk there, etc. So when my husband and I moved into the community, we were thrilled to discover Mt. Airy Family Practice. Unfortunately after 1+ years, we are now looking for a different doctor's office. The reception staff is extremely unprofessional, difficult to work with, and at times, downright rude. The doctors are nice enough when you schedule an appointment, but inflexible and unwilling to help outside of a scheduled (and costly) meeting. The idea of Mt. Airy Family Practice is great, the reality on the other hand leaves much to be desired.

I have been a patient at Mt. Airy Family Practice for about a year, have visited the office several times and have had a completely different experience from the other reviewer. I see Dr. Leath and I am completely happy with her as a primary care physician. I have never had any problem getting an appointment in a reasonable amount of time, I rarely have to wait more than a few minutes and have never had any problems with billing.

Pros: Nice office in a residential area of Mt. Airy

DON"T GO THERE! They are incompentent with billing procedures--you will keep getting bills in the mail for things that never took place. I actually spoke to them in person and they showed me my record with a sero balance. But I kept getting bills. And they are not friendly or cooperative on the phone; you are bothering them when you call.

The doctors range from good to average, but they tend to discount symptoms, particularly with children, unless you get extremely proactive and demand care. They like to give the "oh you are too stressed" diagnosis to adults. I persoally got sick of it and went to a doctor who listened to me. We are all getting better care. Don't let the crunchy granola attitude fool you. They don't care or know what they are doing. Big disappointment.
