I used to be very happy with Rhawnhurst sports. My son played baseball with Rhawnhurst for 9 years. Unfortunately, it is not the case anymore. The organization is now too focused on winning for the egos of many of the coaches. My daughter was on the basketball team (9 year olds) The same two coaches (they are twin sisters) follow the team each year, so you do not get a new coach. Last year she got some playing time, scored a few baskets, was getting more aggressive, etc. This year she was condemned to the bench. We timed it every game, and she got a total of 3 minutes playing time or less each game. The coaches play all of the starters, and just rotate one starter to give each of the 3 bench warmers less than 3 minutes per game. Because of this the starters are not used to playing with the bench warmers, and don't pass to them, even when they are open and at the net, due to not being used to playing as a team with them. This is not much fun. Kids' sports should be fun. Watching your child sit on the bench all but 3 minutes every single game is heartbreaking. When I tried to complain about it I was told that they are volunteers, and if my daughter needed more playing time she could do it at home, and if I didn't like it I could have my money back. I think that it is appalling that a lot of coaches these days are so focused on winning the championship, and the trophies, and the pats on the back from fellow coaches that they lose sight of why we have kids' sports in the first place...... to be fun for the children.

After talking to other parents I have found many share my opinion, especially moms of the football teams. If your child plays soccer, he/she can't do it at Rhawnhurst, the reason being ....... "It is Unamerican." You can however sign your child up for soccer at Jardel, a nearby playground. Rhawnhurst is a very cliquey organization, and I have never been able to tolerate cliques. All in all, if you are moving to the area, may I recommend Fox Rox.

Pros: If your child is a natural born talent and all star, and you like cliques, this is for you!

Cons: If your child is an average athlete who wants to join sports for fun, look elsewhere
