I have to say that Giovanni and Pileggi is one of the best salons around. Jen B. has been my stylist for many years. Due to finances and distance from the salon, I have been unable to get back there during the last 6 months. I cannot say enough about Jen. She is the kindest and most compassionate young woman that you could every meet. Her cuts and color are fabulous AND her blow drys last for at least 6 days...embarrassed to say...I at times waited a week to wash my hair:) JEN ALSO WASHED AND STYLED MY WIGS during chemotherapy AND helped me feel "normal" during a difficult time. She is a true gem.
I am 46 years old and my hair was always problematic and wavy. In the past few years it became very brittle and frizzy like cotton candy (ugh and the grays!) I recently lucked out with a last minute appointment with Lauren. She and Josh worked like crazy on my hair. She did a keratin treatment to correct the texture. I had been waiting for someone to DO SOMETHING. I gave her little instruction, and she doesnt know me. So she did what she thought was best. I didnt walk out with a glitzy salon style. What I do have is MY HAIR, like it was when I was 19 years old. It looks LONGER, and it is youthful, shiny, and smooth. Who would even dream of asking for such a thing? One would think it couldnt be done. You cannot even tell it is dyed or styled. It just looks very natural, and young. I am enjoying not being a slave to the elements. I could walk into a sauna and my hair would stay smooth. The salon was funky and charming and everyone was very welcoming. I enjoyed myself.
I've been going to Jody for about 8 months now, and feel incredibly lucky. He has a wonderful feel for hair, listens and gives good advice. He can basically intuit what is needed to make anyone look wonderful. I've only gone to him for hair cuts, as I don't color my hair-- but he's truly magical. Moreover, he's no more expensive than the other two people I went to in Philly before I was lucky enough to find him. Frankly, G & P charges what seems to be the standard rate in the city-- or at least the standard non cheap chain rate. It's always easy to get an appointment and the process is quick and painless (I've never been kept waiting for more than 2 minutes).
Pros: Most talented hairdresser I have ever seen
Yep, it's good.
I have been going to Chris for almost a year now. Besides giving great haircuts and color, he has the best personality! Its always fun and I have never left his chair disappointed. HIL
Pros: Great Color, Great Cuts and Great Personality
I very much enjoyed by cut and color with Jenny - who is new to Giovanni & Pileggi. The assistant Alfonso was also extremely nice. However - it's hard to get over the cold reception that I received when I first walked into the salon. They basically ignored me while talking to each other, did not ask if I wanted anything to drink and did not ask me to have a seat. Later, when I went to pay, the receptionist was on the phone having a conversation with a friend and made me wait for several minutes to finish her call.
I liked my cut but I don't really want to deal with reception again.
Post Script: The salon read my comment and apologized for the reception that I received. They also offered a free service as part of their apology. Due to this improvement in customer service I will be going back and hopefully will have a different experience.
Pros: I liked my stylist and the assistant was very nice
Cons: Rude front desk, chilly attitudes
My experiences with Philadelphia salons over the years have been lukewarm. Having worked with a top stylist in the salon industry for a number of years, my expectations are high.
Chris Harrison never disappoints, he is the real deal...talented and professional.
My color is always perfection. Chris even called me at home a few days before my wedding to make sure that I loved my hair.
Best of all, Chris makes it fun!
Pros: fabulous color
Chris has been styling my hair for a little over a year. I was going to another salon in the suburbs for almost 20 years and was very hesitant to change .I have very difficult hair...it's thick, frizzy and can be really unmanageable. I had heard fantastic things about Chris so I decided to give him a try.I'm so happy I did! My hair has NEVER looked better! After Chris dries my hair he does a brush set ( big brushes are placed like rollers all over my head) and when the brushes are taken out my hair is really smooth and silky and bouncy My hair looks gorgeous when Chris styles it.
Chris is a real gentleman. He listens to what you have to say and he will not do anything that you do not want him to do.If he can do such a great job on my difficult hair then can do ANYBODY'S hair. He is a true artist!
Pros: Warm, friendly, professional atmosophere. Chris listens!
I went from a very light blonde to my natural color. She knew exactly what I wanted from an old picture and it came out perfect. I have tried to go dark before and it NEVER turned out right until now! Thanks Lauren.
I went to see Lauren for a trial for my wedding . She did exactley what I wanted. It was done to perfection. She also gave me some advice on what to do with my color...2 days later I went back for that. I love it!!!! My hair never looked so good. Now I will look and feel like a beautiful bride!
Pros: efficient, experienced
Cons: unprofessional language and conduct by other styist
Chris has been cutting my hair for years and always does a fabulous job. He listens to what you want and doesn't try to push you into a trendier / shorter cut than you want. But he will point you in the right direction so that you always leave with a flattering cut. And he's got a great, friendly personality so you leave looking great and had a great time while you were there! I highly recommend Chris Harrison.
This place is amazing! The location is great, the building is beautiful, the service is great, and the best part of all is stylist Jon Christopher. I have had my fair share of cuts and this by far has been the BEST one yet. Not only is Jon very attentive by making my experience personal, he is also extremely talented! My hair looks good, feels healthy, and does what I want. Jon also reccomended product for my hair that does exactly what I need it to. I have never been happier! Thanks jon!
Andrea and Jon are two of Philadelphia's most talented professionals.
Andrea is the best colorist. Okay, I've been having my hair professionally colored for years and resigned myself to the dreaded reality of oxidized color and dried out hair no matter how much time or money I expended.
Then, I found Andrea Rothschild. My color lasts looking beautiful for months instead of weeks. She has a knack for understanding your coloring (skin, eye) and your lifestyle and magically arrives at the most perfect shade.
What Andrea does for color... Jon does for your cut. He is an amazing talent. If you are looking for an artist... totally gifted... then he is the person to see. Creative, professional and meticulous.
I literally had a grandchild of a neighbor think my husband traded me in for a younger woman .... that's how much younger and beautiful their creative talent made me look.
You can find her at Giovanni & Pileggi ... believe me... you will be happy you did.
Pros: Beautiful atmosphere, professional, courteous, amazing talent
I am so glad I found Jon as a hairstylist! Jon is very personable and great to work with. He was recommended to me by a very good friend and I have been so pleased. He really takes the time to listen and make suggestions that correlate with your hair type, lifestyle and personality. I was always afraid to let anyone touch my hair before giving them a lecture on what and what not to do. Now I just relax and let Jon go to work. I am always highly satisfied with the cut -and he is an amazing colorist also! I always get compliments on my hair. Thank you Jon!!!!
Pros: Excellent Service, and fabulous location, close to shopping, upscale restaurants, Kimmel Center, etc.
If your in need of a new hair style, cut, color or extensions then call Lauren right now!!! Her work is flawless, quick and long lasting!! I've been going to her for over three years and I am still crazy about her work. Everytime, I leave the salon, I receive endless compliments about how great my hair looks. I have friends that come in from out of town to get their hair done by Lauren also. She is always friendly, sweet and will give you her honest opinion about what look would be best for you!!! So call her now and schedule an appointment!!!!
i came into the salon with orange brown hair and missy accodomated me. see turn me into a beautiful creamy blonde and gave me a great layed haircut that just made my hair fall so beautiful it was the best experience i ever had in my life in a salon. very professional and listen to what i wanted. if you ever need to go blonde i recommaned MISSY AMBROSINI !!
Pros: hair color really nice and i wonderful person to talk to
Cons: nothing ever thing was GREAT
I am very disappointed with the service i received at this salon
My stylist was so unprofessional, very rude, and had an amateur blowdry and color my hair
I feel like they passed me around all day
The only thing he did is cut my hair and talk about other hair stylists
I paid over 200.00 dollars and it very much not worth it
As for the reviews on citysearch about this salon I agree with another reviewer they do sound made up
I have been following Jon for the past 10years, and will continue to! He is such a great hair/color stylist that even after i moved to New York 8 years ago, I still travel the distance to get my hair done by him! He always has new updates for hair styles, and his use of color is so impeccable that I get compliments on my hair all the time from people dying to know who does my hair!!! He is very talented and knows just the right cut and color for someones face shape and skin tone. He's by far the BEST!!!!
I am so thrilled that Jon is back at Pileggi's. This is where he belongs! I have been following Jon for over 12 years now and he has been consistently amazing with my (and my friends') hair. He is so amazing in creating the best patterns for my highlights. I like to wear my hair curly too and he really knows how to cut curly hair. I travel a lot and sometimes I need to go to a stylist for a quick dry or cut, and I could never find anyone who does it like Jon. I love the way my highlights are so fine and dimensional. He knows color and can do anything. I get compliments all the time. He is fun to chat with, handsome (tall, dark and handsome). and very charming. And he listens to you and your hair needs. Never tried to sell me anything that he didn't think it would improve the health of my hair. And now that he's back at this beautiful salon, is even better. The salon is truly stylish and classy. Jon Christopher (Fishwick) is a great stylist and someone you want to know!
Pros: discounted parking close by, front desk, stylist
Cons: wished they had more products
I have been going to the salon for a few years and can highly recommend Chris Harrison. I have shoulder length (very) fine hair and he always makes me look fabulous at the end of the day. He is a super stylist who really takes care of all his clients. What sets him apart from everyone else is his amazing knowledge of color, the way he listens to you when you tell him what look you're trying to achieve, and his ability to translate your expectations into the best possible look for you.
Chris has a great sense of humor and you will be laughing and smiling throughout your appointment. He truly cares about you as a client and whether it's a brush set, highlights or complex color, you get the five star treatment. He's a real treasure in the styling world and I'm glad I found him!!! You will too!
Pros: He really hears what you're saying- gives a great haircut for your face, makes your color stand out and is an all around fabulous stylist.
I recently went to Lauren for color and a new hairstyle. I read reviews on here about Lauren and wanted to give her a try. She has found a new dedicated client!! Lauren talked with me about my expectations before she started and we agreed on a color and cut that would fit me. I have gotten so many compliments on my hair. I absolutely love the color and my new style. Did I mention how sweet she is? Lauren was so easy to talk to and down-to-earth which is hard to find at a city salon.
Pros: Talented, Beautiful Salon with great atmosphere
hands down the best haircut in philly goes to jody . he has cut my hair for 10years everything from boy short to the most amazing bobs you have ever seen. truly talented. he just gets it! try him you will never go to another stylist again!
Pros: he tells me what looks good
When my stylist left on maternity leave, I asked around and was referred to Giovanni & Pileggi by a friend. I don't know too much about hair, but just want it to "look good." After meeting me for just a few minutes, Aja totally understood the look I was going for, and turned my natural "mouse"-colored hair into a beautiful mix of honey blonde highlights/caramel lowlights. I have long hair, and sometimes stylists tend to get excited and cut too much off. Aja did a great job of listening and gave me a great cut, while keeping the length that I wanted. Her blow-drys are awesome! She's done everything from a "brush set" which makes it curly/bouncy to a straighter look with some volume.
The customer service is 2nd to none. I drive in from the suburbs. Once I was concerned about my parking meter, and they even went out and put quarters in the meter for me! It's on the pricey side, but definitely worth it for the end result and customer service. Highly recommend.
Pros: great color/cut/blow dry, understands clients really well
Cons: a little pricey/ parking (in the city, this is hard...)
The Keratin treament was definitely a worthwhile investment. It's been over 1 month and my hair still look fabulous and continues to be easily manageable. Thank you Jimmy O.--your styling skills and your attention to detail always makes me look my best.
Pros: Relaxing atmosphere. Highly-skilled stylists. Convenient parking.
I had been going to the same hairstylist for 15 years before moving to Philadelphia, so I was very nervous about beginning the search for a new one. I have very thick, long curly hair and went through a few disaster blow-outs and shall we say alternative personalities. Then I found Chris Harrison! My hair is very important to me as I'm sure it is to many of us and Chris is someone who respects that. From the beginning he made me feel very comfortable and talked to me about my concerns. I have naturally brown hair and when he came time for color I'm so glad it was Chris who turned me into the Blonde I am today! He has flawless technique and style. He won't let you leave until you look exactly the way you intended. The best part is Chris is not just a hair stylist, but he's an awesome person to talk to and laugh and have fun with while your color is processing. Hair appointments with Chris are always something I look forward to and so will you!
Lovely salon, does it all, Chris is great stylist for Men as well as Women's hair. Nice guy..
Listen and discusses..
Prices are great~ Always on time~
No need to travel to New York or try several different salons~
Chris is a lifer!
Always lovin my do!
I have been going to Giovanni and Pileggi for approx. 7 years and I have to say I wouldn't go anywhere else. The main reason is Chris Harrison who cuts and colors my hair. He is so very talented. I have light brown/dark blonde hair and don't ever want my color to look un-natural. He puts in high-lights that are so natural and subtle....it always looks great and I never feel like it it s"too much" color. He also gives a great cut. It does get very busy on weekends so I suggest going during the week if you can!!
I had gone to Giovanni and Pileggi in the past and upon returning to PA scheduled an appt, with Chris Harris. I have super curly hair and usually fear hair cuts. However, he is amazing! Most recently I got it cut short and it is the greatest curly style I have ever had. I get stopped all the time to ask about my new short cut. He is an amazing stylist, has great ideas, and understands curly hair!
Pros: Chris Harris
I recently went to Lauren for the first time after seeing the color and hair extensions she did for my girlfriend (which by the way...the great lengths are amazing. If I did not already have thick long hair I would get them. They look gorgeous!) Anyway, Lauren colored and cut my hair. It is the best I have had in a long time. I trusted Lauren and had her do the color that she thought would be best for my skin tone. IT LOOKS AMAZING!! She also added layers and her blowdry was the best. She used many brushes while blowdrying to add a lot of volume and bounce. I have now found a stylist that I will be devoted to.
Pros: gorgeous salon, friendly staff, up-to-date on styles
I have been going to Giovanni & Pileggi for almost a year now and I found out about them through Citysearch. I decided to go see Chris (Harrison) after reading a few reviews about him and I can definitely say I made the right decision. His aptitude and knowledge of hair coloring surpasses any stylist I have ever seen in the salons in Philadelphia. I have been to other upscale salons and the typical routine is to be rushed in and out without any concern for what the customer actually wants to achieve with their look. Chris's precision and attention to what the customer actually wants is what keeps me coming back to him as a stylist. I have never left without anything less than an exquisite haircut and color. His pleasant demeanor makes the time fly by while I am in there and he will make you laugh from the minute you sit down in the chair until the time you leave. Thanks to Chris, I don't think I will ever go to a different stylist again. Keep up the great work!! ~Lauren
Pros: Chris! - an amazing talent with a propensity to deliver nothing but the best
I was a big fan of the low-cost national "salons" (you know what I am talking about). That was until I started going to Chris. I have been going to Chris for more than three years and have never had a bad haircut. Quite simply, he knows how to cut guys' hair. If you are unsure of the direction you want to go, he can talk you through it. I can't imagine going anywhere else to get a haircut. Nice guy, great haircuts.
Pros: Great haircuts, Get in and out quickly
Cons: Must schedule ahead of time because appointments fill up fast
Hello all, I was trying to vote for my stylist Chris(topher) Harrison for best of city search. Unfortunately I was unable to navigate the site to get to the "voting" area. Regardless of all of that, I just want to say, from the depth of my soul, that Chris truly fixed my entire being. I'm sure most of you reading this are asking, "is she a crazy nut ?", but we've all been there girls. Who hasn't had the most traumatic color experience or an unmanagable haircut? We all have. Well, at leat until u find Chris Harrison. I had an awful experience at a salon in nj. I work in Philadelphia. So when even the men in my office commented on how good my hair, looked i realized i found the first person who actually understood my hair and worked my ideas into what would actually work for me. A co-worker gave me the card of her stylist, Christopher Harrison, and I thank her from the bottom of my heart, I have never felt better about myself. It took two haircuts to get my hair where i wanted it, but he made no b.s. about what it would take to get to that point, which I realized was much different as to what Ithought Ishould have vs. what he told me would work for me (during our first meeting). Although the haircut needed time to be shaped to where we (well, I in total agreement after his instructions) decided would be most complimentary for myself, but the color was perfect from day one, he did say it would take two color appointments to get to the point that he would be satisified (even though to me it looked perfect the first visit), which made me comfortable at once. So the entire point to this review is that he is a "God-sent". I thank him, and have done so in sending 4 people from my office to him. Thank u Chris, and I hope very much u read this and know how much I appreciate your gift for making me and i'm sure others feel and look their best. XOXOXOXO BEXX
Pros: Christopher Harrison
Cons: Parking, reception.
Jackie is a new stylist at Giovanni Pilleggi...she previously worked at the Phoenix Salon. I got a cut and highlights with Jackie and I absolutely LOVE it! I told her what I was looking for and she listened 100% and gave me EXACTLY what i wanted!!! I have recieved so many compliments on my hair!! After trying many stylist at all different salons...I believe I have FINALLY found the one I am sticking with :) Couldnt be happier!!
Jimmy is the best technician. He knows how to cut hair for your hair type and face. He listens. He make sure he understands what you want. He knows fashion. He knows the latest in hair styles & cuts. That's important. That's why you go to a top city salon -- to get the "latest" in hair -- to look good. He knows his tools and makes sure he has ones that work. Sharp shears and a great blowdryer! I wish I could dry like he does..........I feel like a million bucks when he's done. He knows color. He always suggest the best to make my hair look and feel good. Hair like silk with Jimmy is an understatement! The only problem is I wish I could have him do my hair everyday!
Pros: skill of stylist
My wife recommended me to her stylist, Chris, to get my haircut. Chris was so polite and attentive to what I wanted my hair to look like. When he was finished, I was amazed to what he had done with my hair. I don't have much hair to work with, so he was able to perform a miracle on me. He has made me a customer-for-life.
Pros: Great Customer Service
I moved to Philly last year and was very scared to try out a new place after a disaster at another salon. A co-worker recommended Chris. Her hair cut and color looked GREAT and hey she was an Eagles Cheerleader. Well, Chris completely exceeded my expectations. I went from practically a mullet from the last salon to gorgeous. He listens to want you want and produces. If you can't quite decide what would look good he has great ideas as well. If you want to look STUNNING look no further go see Chris.
Pros: Great Sevice
Here is my problem with the last review posted and citysearch. Anyone can post a comment and I have first hand knowledge b/c I have seen it done at other salons that stylists write reviews for themselves pretending to be a client. This last post concerning Jocelyn Kirsh's stylist is so obvious that it was written by either the stylist herself or a friend. It is way too scripted. It is unfortunate that people feel the need to do that. If you were confident in your abilities and skills you would not feel the need to post comments about yourself. It makes citysearch less reliable which is not fair for people looking for an honest review of a salon, business, etc.
My name is Christie Honighman and I wrote the review about Jen being the best at hair extensions ( based on my experience). I've been a client of hers for 4 years and Jen has done 5 sets of extensions on me. Giving the time and expense that goes into this process, obviously, I speak with experience.
I had a really terrible coloring job done on my hair; it literally was a disaster. Jimmy took out the bad color, evened out my all-over color, and now it looks AMAZING. My hair came out to be exactly the color I wanted. Great blowdry, as well. He truly saved my hair and I don't think I can trust anyone else with my hair ever again. AMAZING JOB, such a sweetheart. If you make an appointment, ask for Jimmy. He'll take care of you.
I am a philly native and have just visited Giovanni and Pileggi for the first time. I sat with Lauren for a cut and highlight and was more than satisfied with the result. It is the best haircut and color I have had in a very long time. What a treat!
Pros: Great stylist
Was just in this past week with Jennifer and I must say, best cut and color i've ever had. Not only is her work amazing, i was taken on time and out of there in under an hour and a half. I showed her a picture of Heidi Klum's hair, and Heidi Klum's hair I got!
Pros: upbeat, fresh
I have lived in Philadelphia for 11 years. I have been to almost every salon in the city and was never really happy with my hair. I went to giovanni and pileggi recently for the first time. I must say I could not find anything to complain about. The staff and salon were excellent.
I have been all over the city looking for a new stylist and salon that can give me what I ask for. As many people know this is not an easy thing to find. I went to Giovanni and Pileggi last week for a cut and color and was more than pleased with the result. My new stylist Lauren gave me the absolute perfect cut and color. Giovanni and Pileggi will be seeing me again!
I had an appointment scheduled & appeared early to have my hair cut & colored.
I had a formal to attend with my husband in the city.
I appeared for my appointment & was approached by a woman who did not smile, nor present a pleasant greeting. She asked me who my appointment was with & couldn't find me in the book. I had called two weeks ahead to schedule this important appointment for a single process & a cut.
I even walked in after work one day to reconfirm my appointment.
No one acknowledged me nor offered me coffee, water, or tea.
A sylist assistant approached me & directed me towards a chair that was dirty & filled with a previous client's hair. She inquired what I was there for & took the liberty to start pulling out color swatches.
Meantime, my stylist was doing someone else's hair. He stopped by my chair and asked me what my appointment was for. I had a consultation with him the evening before when I stopped by the salon to confirm my appointment.
I rescheduled my appointment with a different salon in Cherry Hill, NJ where my husband & I reside.
I'm sure there are other salons in the city that are fabulous. This one is not on my list.
Cons: Dirty salon, unreliable stylist
So after two years of only getting my hair cut when I went back home to Boston, I finally took a chance! I read the salon round up in Daily Candy and went with the one closest to my work- Giovanni & Pileggi. Of course, it was completely last minute, but they fit me in with Jen. She was great! She made a few suggestions about my layers which have made my hair so much easier to blowout on my own... though I can't get it to look quite as good as when she did it, but that's always the way. I'm defiinitely having her do my highlights next time now that I trust her! Oh and she does makeup too!
I always seem to lose a great hairstylist to a new career or a move, so when my last stylist left Luna I was truly up in arms. This was the 3rd time, yes the 3rd stylist and 3rd salon that I had to find. I remembered reading reviews for Giovanni & Pilleggi and I kept seeing Lauren this, Lauren that so I gave it a shot. She gave me such a fantastic cut that I am heading back there again. I didn't have to wait more than 5 minutes to be seen and was greeted by a very friendly Lauren. She had a cutting technique that I actually have never seen before which may have contributed to such a pleasing style. The only draw back is price, $60 is a little steep for a cut but I guess average for the location. I was a little worried about how much they use assistants there though. If I am paying that much for a haircut, I expect an experienced stylist so I don't want an assistant touching my hair unless they are washing it. Also, if you are looking to buy haircare products, this place does not carry the usual bumble and bumble, matrix, etc. So I do think the products they offer are very limited and not well known. I was a little disappointed with that.
Cons: Pricey, Parking, Products
My former stylist could do a good job when she wanted to. How often is that? Based on my experience, only about 50% of the time. Twice she left me sitting in the chair with wet hair for 20 minutes or so while she went to talk to some friends who had stopped by. Sometimes her work was great; sometimes she rushed through the haircut and it came out just so-so. The last straw was when she gave me over-processed, overly fat highlights that made me look like a skunk! Too bad it took a year's worth of poor service (not to mention wasted time and money) for me to wise up.
Cons: negligent stylist, condescending receptionists
Jason is at his new salon JasonMatthew at 15th and Walnut!!!! Joyce, Kathy and Bernadette are there too!
I went to Giovanni and Pileggi this past Sat. before the try outs for the eagles cheerleaders. I wanted to look my best and figured I would go were the squad goes to get there hair done. Now I know why they look so great on the field! I was so thrilled with the result . My hair never looked so good and it held through my entire audition. Now I know why this salon has the reputation they have. Fantastic!
