I went to the Northsider to sepcifically purchase a bottle of rum they carry that I prefer. I bought a 1.75 liter bottle, to which my clerk commented on the expensive price of the rum and then placed it into a small plastic bag. I took the rum from the counter to my car (parked roughly 10 feet from the door). I did not even make it to my car when the bottle broke through the bottom of the plastic bag and shattered on the parking lot. I threw away the large glass chunks and went back inside to get another bottle and proceeded to checkout and explained what had happened to the clerk. She went in the back and got the manager who came out and explained to me it was not their fault that I had carried the bottle out of the store using the bag instead of holding it by the handle. I explained I had used the bag their clerk had bagged it in and would expect ot at least make it to my car. I pointed out it fell through the bottom of the bag, not breaking the handles. The manager continued to chastise me for using the bag (which they had provided) to carry the bottle out to my car with and again stated they could not be responsible for something once it was in my hands. Not willing to get in an argument I asked if they would be wiling to give me a discount. She said she would give me half off. I explained that I had simply used the bag they had given me, but the half off was fair and I wished to check out and leave. The manager then told me if I thought it was fair I should thank her for being so generous as it was my fault for carrying the bottle by the bag, and further more went on to insult me by attempting to carry the bottle (this time they put it in a paper bag) to my car for me in front of other customers.

I do appreciate the discount and will admit it may not have been the best way to handle the bottle, but to be insulted and spoke to like a child is far from courteous customer service. Had she simply offered the discount straight away rather than to assign blame to me I would have thanked her as she felt she deserved. Instead I will make sure everyone I know understands the poor level of customer service they can plan on getting when they go to the Northsider. I used to stop and buy gas and a couple sodas nearly every morning on my way to work at this place - NOT ANYMORE!
