I carefully reviewed each of the major fitness centers in The Maryville/Alcoa area and participated for one week at each facility.
My findings:
Blount Wellness: Clean facility, adequate equipment, predominantly senior clients, friendly staff, good classes, crowded aquatic facility. Membership 44.95 each plus annual maintenance fee. Low pressure sales team.
National Fitness: Clean facility, great variety of equipment, Womens only fitness room, excellent aquatic fitness area, steam room, sauna room. Young children were not supervised in pool area and ran around jumping in exercise pool. Staff was young and unintentionally unprofessional (complained about clients within hearing range). HIGH pressure sales manager...44.99/month with twice yearly maintenance fee of 29.
Olympia Fitness: Dark facility, old equipment, small workout area. You must walk a long distance outside heated space to use pool. Friendly staff but far inferior to other local fitness centers. 34.99/month.
Rush Fitness: Clean facility with wide choice of cardio and resistance training equipment. Friendly staff and clients. Large whirlpool, sauna, and steam room. Men use sauna room with street clothes and sometimes try to exercise in there (my only complaint). Managers were genuinely friendly and did not pressure me to join. Most importantly from my perspective, however, is that the staff welcomed me and my lifetime partner. We paid 22.50 each and one maintenance fee of 29/year. My choice was easy...we just joined and love it!

Don't join the Alcoa Rush. This place is nasty, plates and dumbells left on the equipment and on the floor. Old towels, drink cups, etc. left laying around. The Alcoa Rush management does not seem to care. The other Rush locations are much better managed.

Great service! Superb facilities with a suitable ambiance for a great workout! What more can I ask for?

It's been a year that I've been a member of The Rush Alcoa and I've got nothing to complain about. During the contract signing, they really did explain every detail to me. No hidden scripts whatsoever.

Every workout session is something to look forward because I have a fitness trainer who's very keen with my health and fitness status. From the time I enrolled in this gym, I've been a total fitness buff. Whenever I ran out of time, I never worry because they're open 24/7. I suggest you enroll at The Rush or have their 14 day free membership trial. I guarantee , you'll never regret it.

I've been a Rush member more than 2 years now. My fitness coach instilled on me the value of good health and following my exercise programs really have this positive effect in my life.

I came over to NC last year for Thanksgiving. The turkey "diet" wasn't good to my body so I went to The Rush in Greensboro. I think this is there latest branch since the facilities are in very good condition. They honored my pass even if my membership is for The Rush in Knoxville. The girl I talked with was very friendly and they were giving a free trial membership so I tagged along my mom-in-law. We love it!

Just like there Knoxville Gyms, the Greensboro gym was clean and spacious. There was a wide selection of equipments and group classes so I never got bored.

Reading what you say about the Rush in Alcoa, I can say, maybe the Rush gyms differ from each location.

Having visited the Rush in Knoxville and Greensboro, The Rush for me is still recommended!

Its funny reading peoples experiences at health facilities because they make it sound as if a gun was held to their head and they had no option but to join. You are in their facility and if you don't want to purchase what they have to offer then get up and leave. They don't have a choice they work their and have to sit through your cry baby moments and excuses why you need to continue your unhappy life as it exists. Their job is to reinforce what you walked in their for in the beginning before they can do anything to help you gain a healty life style. Yes, their a buisness, they can't help for free but it sure saves on medical expenses, so next time ask yourself am I worth atleast the $50 dollars or so that they ask. It's up to you, your either going to pay and be pro-active or pay because your doctor says you have no choice if you want to get better. Its obvious your unhappy and routinely reflect the blame on others for your unhappiness!

I had the same problem, except they told me that someone renewed my accout, I only had a 2 year contract and I didn't renew it. It was a hastle filling out paper work, calling customer service and the whole time taking money out of my account, I asked them who renewed it because no one else was on my account, then they said it did it automatically, that wasn't explained in my contract, even if it was it should have been just a month to month thing instead of another 2 year contract. I was at the Alcoa location, and had nothing but problems there, the who gym smelled of chlorine, which always gave me a headache, everytime I complained the manager would say someone just walked out or they just cleaned the pool, whatever, Olympia and Blount Fitness never smells like that. It was a total waste of my money and the only way to get out of the contract is if you've moved to a location that doesn't have a Rush within 90 miles, how stupid is that, who's going to drive that far just to go to a gym. I know the employee's have jobs to do there, but they have very bad customer service skills, its worse than being in high school with 2-3 employee's ganging up on 1 person, I felt like they we're pressuring me into getting things I didn't want and when I told them I was on a budget (I told them about 6 or 7 times within less than 2 hours, yes I was there that long, just signing up) because they wouldn't take no for an answer, and I hate that with a passion. Take my advice and go to a gym somewhere else.

After I completed my contract time and tried to cancel, The Rush continued to charge to my bank card. When I complained, they said the contract I signed allowed them to charge an additional month up to 15 days after I canceled my membership. Complaints up the line were futile. In fact, they inferred that I was stupid for not reading the two pages of fine print in the contract that is so small, I have to use a magnifying glass to read it.

The reason I canceled is that they don't keep the equipment maintained. I never went there that I didn't find a piece of equipment that was out of order. The sauna and steam rooms are frequently out of order and the locker rooms aren't clean. Try to find a locker that you can actually lock. Plus, the water cooler was out of order for months and when I complained I was told to buy a bottle of water for a dollar.

This place caters to teenagers whose mommies and daddies are footing the bill and they just don't have a clue about how to treat a good paying customer. I can't recommend The Rush unless you are in a rush to get nothing for your money.
