Amazing place. One of the few places in the land that infuses their own vodka and rum. The drink prices of these liquors is 3 dollars a shot and 5 dollars a cocktail. Not a bad deal! Food is very good as well, service was good, and never had to ask for anything. I recommend this to anyone.

with the non-smoking law in place they state they are non-smoking. however, on a recent visit three patrons sit at the bar with the owner while pufing away. i refrained from complaining because i had already ordered my meal.

i choose to eat elsewhere.

I stumbled into Past Perfect while working close to it. My co-workers recommended it one night on Karaoke night (Sunday nights) and I went in to have a beer while waiting for my ride. I fell in love with the place...the people were friendly (true southern attitudes) and the bartender on shift (Paul) was great. I don't know exactly what made me return, although it may have been the small-town atmosphere in a big-town setting, but return I did. I end up there about 3 nights a week and always see some of the same people who always greet me with a smile and by name. I would recommend it to anyone. Hint: try the Tuscan Chicken Sandwich. My favorite.

Cons: There aren't any (except parking on event nights)

My husband and I just ate at Past Perfect. It's a great little spot. It is more expensive than some places, but it's still not exorbitant and the food is wonderful. I had the lasagna and my husband had the tuna wrap an both were quite tasty.

It definitively feels a bit new and could use some local support, as if just left up to the tourists I don't think it would last.

The hours are good as well, as they serve food until 2 and drinks until 3.

There was a sign out front for a $5 lunch special, so we'll likely go back soon.

Pros: Space, ambience, menu

Cons: Not sure if the tourist scene would pay the price or pick the food, and it's mostly unknown with the locals

After being unsuccessful in finding a late night food joint downtown, we finally stumbled upon Past Perfect (don't understand the name at all, Latin grammar anyone? but that's just the beginning). We were open minded and eager to see the offerings. Well, to put it bluntly, the food was so-so, you overpay, the drinks were overpriced as well ($5.00 for a tap beer when Cabana and other places are an average of $4?), and most apparent, the ambiance was off. Don't understand what it's "selling point" is, the decor, or what it is aiming for overall. Weird place, average food, and just not enough to make me go back. Prediction: this place won't last more than another year. They need a serious makeover in more ways than one. And after reading the very first review of this place AFTER we visited, a serious attitude and manner makeover as well.

Past Perfect is a fantastic bar and restaurant, tucked away on 3rd Ave. (half-block from Broadway). Their food is top-notch, and the kitchen is open 'til 2 am, making it a wonderful place to catch a bite after the bars. Though you could do just as well with your night by keeping it there. The bar is awesome, with a full compliment of boozes and a few draft beers to keep everyone happy. Prices are good, and the service is excellent. Great ambience, with dark woods and colors giving it a jazz-club type atmosphere. I highly recommend Past Perfect.

Past Perfect has been an anomily in Nashville for the past year. A Chicago-style, Victorian-era bar that does many things decent but few well. The menu needs some serious help, and while the food is by no means bad, it lacks any signature. Earlier this year I would have recomended ordering off their features menu, but since their Chef left, the food quality has suffered some. The staff is up and down. Some nights attentive and on the spot, other nights it seems to take forever for service of any sort. Monday nights, I recomend staying away. The bartenders are rude, and seem interested in only taking care of their friends. Rick, a manager of some sort (I never was able to find out definitively), has been rude or curt on many occasions. Also, the prices are a bit high for the quality. Don't get me wrong, it's a solid bar, with great ambience and a good (overall) staff. The food service is prompt, even though the menu needs help. It's a bar/restaurant that seems in need of a solid direction, but I'll keep coming back until they get it perfect.

I like this place, the ambiance is totally different than most places downtown, with mostly jazz playing on the speakers, and live music that's not all country. Their food is pretty good, I've been there several times and the lobster pasta is the best I've had so far. Their chicken skewers (I'm not sure what they called them on the menu) were good as well. The menu is a little limited, but it's a nice change from all the honky-tonks surrounding the area.

A friend and I tried past perfect last night for our girls night out. After reading some of these reviews I had some trepidations, but my fears were groundless. We walked in at 7 on a Saturday night and were seated promptly. Our server was with us quickly and was very friendly. We split an appetizer and the chicken nathanzolla. The food was great, and we didn't have to ask for an extra plate. We both had the peach martini. It was extremely tasty. There were fresh flowers and candles on all the tables, and the atmosphere was quite romantic. I would have been pleased to have been taken there on a date. I would recommend it to anyone.

Too bad. The food was cold and the seafood was spoiled, service was slow even though there were only two couples in the restaurant, and they charge $9 for a glass of house wine. Don't waste your time or money at Past Perfect.

Monday night is a somewhat slow night in any city- but in Nashville... Dont go to Past Perfect. You will find a scant crowd of kids lined up along the bar watching two bartenders drink.
My business associates and I were in Nashville for the week and walked down to this bar in the cold and found we made a mistake. After waiting 10 minutes to order our drinks, the two guys behind the bar asked us "now what did ya'll order?", looked at eachother and laughed while they continued making drinks for what seemed like college kids who were friends- and taking shots themselves. They didnt even try to be courteous or in anyway interested that we were there. when we said "good bye" one guy with black greasy hair (seemed like the leader of the two bar- clowns) responded with "Later" without even looking at us. We went to the Hermitage Hotel only about 6 blocks away and had drinks and food there. We were glad we spent our $500.00 there than at Past Perfect. All I can think of is this bar is owned by some guy who lets his kid and his friend run it into the ground!

Pros: Great Location!

Cons: $10 parking, unattentive staff, no management

.

I go here at least twice a week. The place is beautiful, the food is always great, and the service is fast and freindly. The owners are cool, and are always eager to please, and even listen to suggestions; I suggested smaller portions and prices for lunch, and within a week, they were there on the menu! This is truly downtown's neighborhood place. Keep it up!

Pros: oasis from honkytonks and clubs on second

Cons: Getting busier by the day

We made our first visit tonight and unfortunately it will be our last. My husband & I had been talking about the funny menu and looking forward to visiting for two weeks but honestly, we were very disappointed. You don't get much for the money you pay - portions are very small compared to anywhere, food was so-so (I had the bison burger, my husband had spaghetti which he said was bland), there were no extra's whatsover ... nothing at all to justify the high prices. For a Friday night, the atmosphere was pretty lame. Our server was pleasant but we did have reason to ask to speak with the manager and he was very begrudging and ungracious. To be truthful, we would have had a better experience for considerably less money in any chain restaurant. On top of this, parking is expensive at $10 ... which would have been fine if our experience at Past Perfect had been ok, but it wasn't. My advice would be to save your money & eat elsewhere.

Cons: Price, Portion Size, Bland Food

I have been to Past Perfect many times since they have opened and have never been disappointed. They are in a perfect location and have a great atmosphere. You feel instantly at home as soon as you sit down. The servers are always very friendly and helpful and the food is different from anywhere else downtown. I would recommend the bison burger, mediterreanean wrap, and the Nathanzola, my personal favorites. I also recommend going on Friday and Saturday nights to hear some great music.
If you are tired of the same kind of music and the same fried food Past Perfect is definetly the place to be.

I had my bachelorette party back in early June and a group of 15 girls or so had a blast at Decades......I then needed to get food around midnight and we saw signs for "Hot fresh food! Open til 2 AM!" So we followed the sign and ended up at Past Perfect.

The bartender that served us was wonderful and the food was absolutely delicious! From the chicken skewers to the buttered bread a lot of people requested.....it definitely pleased our tummies!

I unfortunately discovered this resturant about a month before I moved to Birmingham, AL....but I plan on coming back when I'm in the downtown Nasvhille area!

I am A regular at Past perfect and I love this place. The food and service are some of the best downtown. If you want Cheap food, go to chili's or Wendy's like one reviewer suggested. And complaining about now having enough menu items after seeing the menu outside and still sitting down is just plain silly. Good places don't need fifty things on the menu. It's sad that only people with an axe to grind write reviews on these sites. Go to Demo's if you want cheap crud.

Do NOT eat here. There is a very limited menu and several of the menu items are no longer available. Save your money and your time finding a parking place. Get a salad at Wendy's and your spaghetti at Fazoli's. The chocolate lava cake at Chili's is much bigger, so much better and less than the $8 Past Perfect charges. Will not return or recommend to anyone.

When I first walked into this very cute restaurant just off Broadway I was very pleasantly surprised. Then the service started, and was absolutely horrendous. I would love to tell you how the food and drinks made up for the rude service, but I cannot because I was never able to receive either. If you want a nice ambience of a restored old building and good food go to Margot Cafe. If you want to be berated by the wait staff then by all means this is your place!

I will never return to this spot. Nor will my friends. Service was atrocious. Management was rude. AC was broken. We bought a "free" party through a charity silent auction for $150, and Past Perfect was supposed to provide us w/ free cocktails for an hour. They clearly weren't interested in following through with their committed donation b/c the server brought each of us 2 drinks and told us the "free party" was over -- even though we all had outstanding drink orders that had never been given to us and the party had only been going for 40 minutes. We shot silly string for our friend's birthday (we asked them in advance and they told us we could use it). They later told us they would bring us a broom so we could sweep up the area after the party was over! You've got to be kidding me! When we went to speak to the manager about the horrible service and lack of drinks, he was rude. He told us that his waitress said we had no outstanding drink orders -- which is completely untrue. When we argued that point and told him to consult with the rest of our guests so that he could get the truth, he told us that he was siding with his waitress and that we could "consider the party over" among other choice remarks. There were 25 people at this party. 25 people that were treated poorly and didn't get what was owed to them. 25 people that will never return. 25 people that will tell their friends never to return. 25 people that will post comments on City Search. Surely, providing us with a few drinks that were owed to us was not worth all of the bad publicity and lack of return visits that he will now receive. Hindsight is 20/20!

The dining options near TPAC are pretty limited, so I was I excited to find that the new Schermerhorn Center had an equally-new restaurant pretty much right next door. Should be the perfect pre-Symphony spot, right?

Nope. The spartan, unfocused menu (which, oddly enough, was mostly filled with jokes plagiarized from "The Onion") offered little that I or my date were interested in. We settled on some salads and a couple of appetizers, thinking that would be quick enough to get to our seats in time for the concert. It still took nearly 45 minutes to get our food, and the apps were room-temperature by then. This was early on a weekday when it wasn't even particularly busy. I'm glad we didn't order something more complex. We'd probably still be sitting there.

The service lapse would be forgivable if it wasn't for the indifferent attitude of the manager who came by to (finally) check on us. No apology was offered, just excuses.

I'm still holding out hope that this place gets their act together, because the location is just about perfect.

We live downtown and have gotten sick of the microwaved bar food that most reasonably priced restaraunts serve. FINALLY Past Perfect came with high quality, fresh food like we got used to when we lived in California. Not to mention the great bar and fun ambience. We go to Past Perfect on a weekly basis and have not grown tired of the menu.

We just had dinner here last weekend and had a very enjoyable time. The interior of the restaurant is interesting and added to the food which was great. I highly recommend the bison burger which is much better than the average burger you find at most restaurant and the mashed potatoes were great. The staff is really friendly and takes a hands-on approach with each customer. I would like to see a little more variety but I think they have only been open a few months. . .I will be going back for sure.

I can't say I was surprised at the "lack of Variety" posting about Past perfect, seeing how it was obviously written by someone who just doesnt get it. Not only is Everything on the menu is different from everything downtown, but most good restaurants I know in Most of the Big cities cities I have traveled to have one thing in common, They do a few things really well. My co-workers have been eating in Past perfect for the past month, And I can tell you, It's a breath of fresh air. The Bison burger is to die for, and the chocolate cake is the richest on earth. The Menu is'nt huge but has changed three times since we have been going there

My fiance, myself, and four of our friends dined together at Past Perfect last Saturday, and we were very pleased with our meal. It took about 20 minutes to get a table, but the owner, Sean, brought us some appetizer samples to taste, and recommended some specialty martinis. My fiance had the guava martini (tasty). For dinner, I had the large filet, and it was cooked a perfect medium rare. It was one of the best cuts of meat that I have ever had, and I am a regular at Chicago steakhouses. The service was a little slow, but friendly and accomodating. My fiance is a vegetarian, and the waiter, Brent, recommended a pasta dish that wasn't on the menu - and it was excellent as well. He also recommended a couple of excellent bottles of wine to go with our meal. I would recommend this place to everyone.

On our first visit will likely be our only visit here. While the interior has a certain appeal, the menu is sorely lacking in choices. Besides a few salads and wraps, there are only 5 other choices: spaghetti, filet mignon, grouper, a burger, and some sort of meat pie. The food we ordered was good, but there were ~15-20 min between the time the first person was served to when the last received his food. Finally, there were only 2 desserts, and both were hardly edible. The molten cake, was essentially a dry pile of cocoa with whipped cream on top, and the paradise pie was still so frozen, a fork and knife couldn't cut it.

Pros: atmosphere ok, no crowds

Cons: too few choices, slow service
