I visit here everytime I'm in Nashville, which is quite a lot. The place is super hip, lots of seeing and being seen, in a fun area of town. Thumbs up!

Very TRENDY place. A younger chic crowd. Very busy on a saturday. I would suggest a reservation. I went late and not a bad wait. We had a drink and sat on rooftop deck, very nice, but half was shut off for a party. Different levels throughout the restaurant and many places to eat, such as stools, couches, outside dining (would suggest) The food was great and drinks strong, but good. When seated, we were never waited on, we actually had to go get host to inform as many people passed by several times. The service is not great and manager did come over and apolgize but did not do anything. The server did not seem into the job as many did not....again it was busy and later in the night and I am certain they were tired, but did not feel very welcome, but the place is beautiful and the food was very good.

Pros: Atmosphere is TOPS!

Cons: Service to be desired and patrons are full of themselves

This is one of the swankiest places I've been to in a long time! From lunch to dinner to happy hour this place has it all. Located in the Gulch trust me you will not be disappointed. My favorite dish on the new menu is the Shrimp and Crab dip Yummy yummy! Don't take my word for it run on down on your lunch break and check it out!!!

I don't get to dance unless we are at a wedding and they happen to have a great band....Sambuca was my ideal dinner and dancing date night! The band is always changing so find a night where the music is most appealing and get ready to dance! The menu has a little of something for everyone... from chicken to steak or pasta. I highly recommend the bruschetta as an appetizer! For dinner i had the champagne chicken, OMG. After dinner, we danced for almost two hours.

I had so much fun and thought I would have to dish out major bucks to come to this hot spot in the Gulch. But much to my delight... They now offer small plates on the big menu for dinner that are chepper than Chillies!
I came in early to get a good seat and found out that they had happy hour that started @ 4:30 and had a Gray Gose martine for $5.50 and all the apps are 1/2 off for happy hour to. I did not evan go into the dinning room for dinner(Had so meany apps@ 1/2 off I was full)
THIS IS THE BEST DEAL IN THE GULCH.
We had to go to a show downtown and parking downtown is just a mess, So we got a cap and saved more $ that we would have to fork out for parking. The valet was so nice. So after the show we came bake to Sambuca and had dessert that I can't wait to have again.
I can't remember the name but it is a deep fried cheescake... Oh My Word... And big enough to split with my date.
I will be coming in to Sambuca befor each event I attend dawntown and can't wait to have more good food & Killer Happy Hour drinks.

BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!!!?? - ?? - 2009-12-29
First time to eat at Sambuca's, decor was nice, food was fine, service was worse than anything I have had in Nashville ever! Was my 50th birthday, special evening.
First; our 8pm Thursday night table reservation was not ready. We were sent to the bar, took forever to flag down a waitress to get a drink. 25 minutes later our reserved table was finally ready.
Our waiter was VERY unpleasant! He managed to break the cork off in our 20+ year old bottle of wine we brought, and then removed the bottle from the table to decanter it. Bringing us back only the decater, no bottle. Not sure we got our own wine!!
Food was fine, good thing...waiter never checked to see if the steak was cooked correctly, or all was satifactory. We had to pour our own wine, and our drinks were empty, no refills. When we had finished our food, wine and drinks and pushed our plates away the waiter finally arrived with the check! (Did he have some place else to go?!) We had to ask for another round of drinks, and Dessert! He asked what I wanted...without showing us the options. Our drinks and Dessert arrived with the check. We were told if we needed anything else to let him know. We waited another 15 minutes at the table for another round of drinks that NEVER came! So we moved to the bar to get a drink before our driver arrived. Flagged down a waitress, ordered and it took her another 16 minutes to deliver the over-priced drinks!! Our driver had arrived by that time! The whole experience was bad, from start to end.
It took two days for the manager to return our call about the experience...when he did he was less than apologetic! Stated he would send "something" in the mail for our disatisfaction, however, it has now been 12 days and nothing has arrived. Reflects the overall attitude of the staff. Will never return or recommend to anyone!
Take your money elswhere...there are too many really great restaurants in Nashville now to choose from!!!

Pros: $5 drinks

I've been here twice. The food is very well done; I went with a large group and everybody loved what they got. Depending on when you go the music may be a little loud, but they have good musicians and the stage lighting gives the place a nice ambience. the girly drinks are pricey but really, really delicious. if you're in the mood for a really nice dinner and willing to spend the money, you really should try sambuca.

I love this place! My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary here. The staff is very nice, they took good care of us. The food was delicious- very creative. The martini I had was great- try the Asian pear martini! One of the best I've had! Loved the red curtains- it made it very romantic. The prices were reasonable, and the food really good. You should go!!

Well I have to say, it's an acquired taste. The food is good though. The drinks are better! The entertainment used to be great on Thursdays but I recently went one Thursday night to find that great band that played was no longer there. Its not the happening place to be now. Gotta find somewhere else for after work socials.

I like fine dining and don't mind paying a hefty price for good food and full service. However, Sambuca seems to be trying to masquerade as a fine establishment while cutting corners. As a bread lover, I was disappointed by the lack of any bread before or during the meal. I asked the waiter about it to determine if we could at least order something to fill that need, and he said there was nothing available at all! But what really shocked me was when he went further to explain that they had done an analysis of the bread and olive oil bill for the last year, and they decided it was too expensive. Well. You wouldn't have known by my bill at the end of the evening that they were cutting back! Still got to pay a hefty bill for a small meal with absolutely no extras!!! Next time I'm heading back to the better established restaurants in Nashville who still know how to serve their customers without cutting corners.

I would never recommend anyone to dine at Sambuca. The food and service was terrible! Our calamari was stone cold and I ordered the Lobster Enchiladas and they were served lukewarm and flavorless. You could tell each entree was pre-prepared and the food was extremely overpriced. (the lobster enchiladas was 25.00) The only good thing to say about this place is the decor. There is a separate bar area, so stopping by for an after dinner drink would be the only way I would ever go here again. I was extremely disappointed (and it was my birthday!) If you are accustomed to great food when you're paying 25.00-35.00 an entree try Margot Cafe instead!

I came to Sambuca to celebrate an anniversary dinner with my husband. Not only was the service outstanding, the menu isn't as pricey as it should be considering the generous portions and live entertainment that is provided. The drinks were exceptionally good, and the atmosphere was to die for. This is my new favorite restaurant. I have since been back maybe five or six times since my anniversary ,and every time the service is outstanding. Unlike stuffy restaurants like the Watermark and Capital Grill, the energy is great, and mingling with bar patrons is fun! They are packed on the weekends, so making a reservation is a good idea. I normally don't rate restaurants, but Sambuca is so good, I had to say something about it.

I went here for my birthday. It was a Sunday night and wasn't busy at all. Didn't need reservations. They had all their 40-80 dollar bottles of wine half off so we got a really nice bottle of Chardonnay for 25 bucks! I got the Filet it was cooked perfectly. Although I didn't like the veggies it came with nor did I like the Goat cheese tator tot (bland) side. But the macaroni and cheese appetizer and creme brulee was to die for. There was a Jazz quatertet playing and the singer was awesome! I think her name was Minnie or Mandy? Waiter was ok not very personable but that kind opf thing doesn't bother me. hostess was super friendly and atmosphere was very cool, dark and romantic.

My first time going to Sambuca in Nashville was this past May for drinks & apps with friends on a Thurs. which also happened to be my friends' birthday. We were on the 2nd level patio & enjoyed apps (1/2 off before 7) & $5 martinis (all night top-shelf, kept us there much longer than we had originally planned). We wanted maki rolls that are listed on the menu for Thurs night, but we were told by the server that they didn't have them that night, 1st disappointment.

My birthday is Friday & when asked what I wanted to do, I said I wanted to go to Sambuca the Thurs night before to have maki, apps & $5 Peartinis again b/c we had such fun in May. I didn't want to spend lots of money on dinner b/c I would spend more on my actual birthday on Friday. Thurs, at 6:30 we went & were informed that there was a private party until 8pm on the 2nd floor patio, first downer. Then we found a spot inside b/c there was no room outside on the 1st floor. We found chairs & sat at the side bar that looks at a dark wall, like something you'd see at a cafe if you wanted alone time with your laptop, not ideal for conversation. When the server came, she said the happy hour specials all ended at 7pm (which we knew; were going to order several appetizers before 7) & there were no longer $5 martinis, which meant no Peartinis that we had looked forward to. At that point we didn't even ask about maki b/c it probably wasn't available either. We didn't want to stay & were frustrated that nothing on menus for Thurs evening was accurate & that everything we looked forward to was no longer available. It had hurt the evening I had planned on to celebrate my birthday. We could have stayed, had one drink and left, but we were too frustrated at that point. I sure hope tomorrow night turns out better for us at a different restaurant. If vibe is the avenue they're going for I sure hope the rest of the food is good. As a designer, I can't see how the atmosphere draws people in.

My 27th birthday was supposed to be special: rented a limo, made 7 o'clock reservations at sambuca, had all my good close family and friends with me. arrived 10minuets early checked in. Host said table would be ready in few minutes, waited for 20minutes no table, went again to see what was going on and said it was being set up. waited for 20 more minutes, still not seated i was really mad then i went and yelled that if i didnt get seated soon the resturant was going to pay for my hour of waitting for my limo. Finally manager came out and seated us at a very dark table we had to use flash lights to read the menu. afer we ordered the food came out dry, under cooked and very bland. Plus their was no im sorry for the service or wait. i spent all that time thinking this was going to be great food and it sucked. Had i know the food and wait was this bad i would have at pizza. dont go ever!!

Dining out at a place like this is an "event" for my wife and I as we have two small boys and our dining out usually involves more casual dining(and lots of napkins!) Apart from that, dining at a place like this only fits in our budget on the rare occasion. With that said, we were greatly pleased.
The waiter, David, advised his main concern was making certain our entire dining experience was memorable. He made recommendations based on what we liked and what he had enjoyed himself from the menu, of which he had eaten most everything available in his time there. He actually gave his veteren opinion not only for the good, but also steered us away from a dish he did not feel we would be satisfied with. I was greatly impressed that a waiter would be so candid and honest. So often "everything is the best" when you ask the waiter/waitress! He was right on with his recommendation of the tuna etoufee. It was delicious! The tuna was perfectly cooked, meaning it had a beautiful sear on the outside and was essentially raw in the center. True tuna lovers will appreciate this dish and it was out of this world. My wife got the rib-eye. The steak was perfectly cooked and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. It came with a side of potatoes that my wife kept raving over. She also asked for a side of the walnut butter that comes with the filet because she was curious about it. It made a great accompaniment to the steak, although it certainly did not need it. After ordering desert we asked David if it would be fine to venture upstairs to check out the view of the city we had heard so much about and he advised it was not a problem. Upon returning to our table, dessert soon was delivered (a chocolate toffee tort) and was slowly devoured. The band played sounded fantastic and were not too loud.
It does get a bit dark in there (the servers actually carry flashlights!) but the ambiance was just what we were looking for that night. We will definitely be back.

The food is always consistant and good, the seabass is the best I have ever eaten. The things that makes this restaurant so great is the kicking bands they book the play this joint. The food is good the service has always been good and the cocktails and funky and cool.. But the band makes this whole experience worth every single penny. Led Zepplin I found you again

We have been to Sambuca twice. First time, it was great. I had already eaten so I just ordered a side of sweet potatoes- which were amazing. But I loved the ambiance. The band was very good and quiet so we could still have a conversation. So, based on this, we determined to come back for Valentines day and had the opposite experience. First of all, the table was teeny tiny and about 1 foot (no joke) from 3 other tables- so that was awkward. We felt like we were dining with strangers. We ordered salads which were delicious. I had to request some bread which I saw at other tables. The service was good though. Then the band came and we didn't talk the rest of the time. They were fine, just loud and totally opposite the smooth, soft jazz band that had been there previously. I ordered the Zebra pasta and was dissatisfied. Not only was it hard to eat, but it was not flavorful and did not fill me up. My husband had the filet, which he absolutely Loved. I've never seen him chew so slowly to savor each bite. We had tiramisu for desert and that was fine. So, to sum it up: cool vibe, score or miss on the menu and music, service is average, request a booth.

Pros: cool vibe, fine service

Cons: crowded table, food expensive for what you get.

I am new to Nashville and I can honestly say that Sambuca is the best restaurant I have been to. My girlfriend and I enjoy dining out regularly and we were delighted with the great level of service, ambience, music, and food quality this place offers at very reasonable prices. So far, we have been there three times and every time we have had such a wonderful experience!

Sambuca is an awesome experience. The food is delightful. I highly recommend the petite filet, zebra pasta, tortilla soup, and all the salads. The half-price appetizers are great. I love the Thursday night Soul/R&B music. The dining room is very cozy and comfortable. The music volume is perfect. I have nothing to complain about. Our servers have also been wonderful and very accomodating. Anyone that complains about this place needs to get a life and go home!!!!!

We went on a Sunday night which featured half price bottles of wine and live Jazz music, which by the way was nice and relaxing. Our server, Ashley, was really great. She was friendly and professional. She was able to make a fine dining environment, comfortable. Our food was SO delicious! We started with the Buca Beignets, then my husband got the Caesar Salad and I had the Shrimp & Crab Bisque. YUM! We both ordered the filet (mine petite) and an order of asparagus. The quality of meat was fantastic and the gorgonzola butter complimented it very well. Overall, our experience was wonderful. A little pricey, but pretty standard for the type of restaurant. We had a very nice, romantic evening and we will definitely be returning!

This was one of the worst dining experiences I've had in Nashville. The food was average, and the atmosphere was terrible! The server was a rude smart a$$, and treated us as if were a total inconvience. The music was so loud, even near the back, we could not even have simple conversation nor order without screaming and pointing.

we went there on a whim after our favorite sushi place was closed for the evening. went in, asked for patio seating, was told the wait was 20 mins, however 2 mins later they had seating ready. seated next to the waterfall fountain, very nice, but my husband at 6' was a little cramped at the 2 top table. the food was incredible. we had the carpaccio appetizer, which was nice and light like an appetizer should be, but packed with flavor. i had the pork chop which was very good but a HUGE chunk of meat, a little hard to cut. my husband had the tuna which he really enjoyed but unfortunately does not do well as a leftover. to finish we had the sticky toffee pudding which tasted insanely good but i swear has enough calories for 5 people. service was very good, if a little slow considering we were there at 11 at night. overall i would definately recommend sambucca and i know we will be returning!

Sambucca was the location for a suprise party I had arranged. If you haven't been in, its worth just going by the bar to take in the location, you'll be sold instantly. There were about 18 people in our group. When I called to set up the reservation the staff made sure to inform me of their nonbill-splitting policy for large groups, and some other basic heads up info. The night of the event, all of my guests had arrived ahead of time, and the wait staff did an spectacular job of not letting on that there was a large group waiting in the balcony area. The food was excellent, well prepared, and presented. At the end of the evening, the staff went out of their way, and did infact split up our individual checks. Loved it, can't wait to go back.

Sambuca can best be described as mediocre. I will say that the decor was intriguing-- heavy drapes, rich colors, candelabras. Unfortunately, I knew that soon the empty stage would be home to another one of Nashville's hopefuls and I would have to sit through it, so that was automatically a setback. Our appetizers were fabulous (try the beignets), but I would never recommend ordering any entrees simply for lack of personality. I first ordered the trout, which tasted like absolutely nothing-- it was dry and crumbling away (difficult to eat, even with utensils-- though the proper fish utensils were not supplied to begin with). I sent it back and ordered their "Zebra" pasta, which my fiance was having. Well, I should have given up at the fish. If this place is to be "romantic" and a "good date spot", I suggest they make their food a bit less difficult to eat. We were on one of our first dates at that time and were pretending it was easy to eat what seemed to be rubber soaked in a bowl of watered-down cream sauce. Did I mention the typical "upscale" pricing? Nashville is really trying to transition into a posh city (as I'm sure everyone notices). However, providing a pleasant fine dining experience should appear effortless to customers, from excellent service to what should be imaginative and distinctively flavorful food. This place, like many others in Nashville, clearly tries too hard. As a result, the food is sub-par, yet the prices soaring. My advice, ultimately, is not to go here unless it is for drinks and appetizers. In addition, definitely don't go if you have little patience for Nashville's "unknown" musical artists, because that really was the cherry on top of our unsatisfactory experience.

My friends and I have been regulars at Sambuca since its opening in the fall of 2005. We used to LOVE everything about it and recommend it to everyone. I don't know what has happened at this place, but the service, food, and atmosphere are in serious need of a renovation. My last visit was plagued with horrible service-- the vibe has changed dramatically! I don't recognize anyone behind the bar anymore other than Randy, or any of the cocktail servers except for the lovely Tamara. Apparently the sub-par management either terminates all of the good employees to make room for the inexperienced ones, or forces them to leave. ( If you never had the chance to enjoy a cocktail made by all-star bartenders Josiah or Adrian, you missed out-- they let them go!) The professionalism has definately slipped as of late. Upon confronting the manager, a very unpleasant woman who resembled a man (what happened to James Weathers!), I received an extremely rude response, and all we needed was the fans to be turned on low on the terrace. It was very windy, and she was very unhelpful. My husband told her to go back to managing an Applebees, or whatever chain restaurant she crawled out from under. We had just ordered a $115 bottle of wine, 4 martinis, 3 entrees (one being the $34 strip steak) and 6 appetizers, and this attitude was uncalled for. I was under the impression this was a Dallas-based company with deep roots in up-scale dining and professionalism, and we no longer feel that Sambuca is the caliber it once was when it was new. Well, that's what happens when the rodents leave the ship . . . . . I'm going back to Virago.

Pros: music, decor, still a fantastic wine list

Cons: poor management, poor service

.

First of all, the whole restaurant and bar is nonsmoking, which is delightful in a time when I have had to stay home or leave early from a club because I couldn't breathe due to excessive cigarette smoke. The ambiance is great and there is plenty of room in the bar to socialize. The music is always A+ and the volume is loud enough to hear the music but not so loud that you can't socialize.

The happy hour is good; drink specials and half price appetizers. The appetizers are good but they don't give you enough to share in most of the dishes. They're worth it at half price.

I had dinner there once: zebra pasta. It's pasta in two full layers, not pieces, with seafood in a cream sauce between them. There was very little seafood and a lot of pasta and I wasn't excited about the taste. However, the appetizers are creative and very good.

My wife and I had a great time tonight at Sambuca, Bartenders there Rock. We went to hear some music after we had dinner some where else. We did not just have drinks there but ended up ordering dessert after seeing a couple of them go past our table. My darling wife ordered the Carmel Brownie and it was wonderful. We will be back soon.

Sambuca is what happens in a city that is ready for first class ambiance, great food and wonderful music. The management assures that you and your date will have a great time every time. Prices are moderate; the food is exceptional and the music is always highly professional and the very best that Nashville has to offer. I would recommend Sambuca to anyone.

From the moment we entered through to the moment we drifted out of Sambuca, our group of 6 people had an amazing time. Drinks were on special, followed by a sublime meal of chicken, fish and meats and a great jazz band. The service was impeccable - our waiter was very knowledgable about the restaurant, the food, the band and the local area. We enjoyed chatting our way through the night with other music fans and diners. I would highly recommend this restaurant for girls' night out, happy hour or just a gosh-darn good night out!

I haven't actually had dinner there, though the food on other people's plates looked great. The drinks we ordered came to the table wrong and we had to re-order. The atmosphere is cool...somewhat a little goth and macabre with the candles on stage in huge wrought-iron candle holders. I do like the long bench seating and the tables near the bar. They have some cozy seating areas, but not enough...those seemed to get scooped up rather quickly. It had a good crowd, indoors and out, so it's a good place to meet people. Also, we were able to park for free, but in a gravel lot a short walk from the place. There is also a lot of walking traffic in the whole gulch area, so again, great area to meet people.

For the price of everything the service there is the worst. The manager on duty Saturday, November 11, 2006 was the worst manager our group has ever encountered. After leaving an 18% tip the manager brought the bill back, asked if we had a problem and we might want to consider leaving additional tip. We only saw the waiter a few times. He didn't bring our food, had to ask several times for things like water, he didn't pick up our dishes and another guy cleaning up our dishes brought us more coffee. It wasn't even busy. I am not sure why he thought the guy deserved more...I have been at many places we have left up to 30% tip for excellent service but give me a break...to have a manager come ask for more tip when you only see the waiter a few times! We should have lowered ourselves to his standards and slide the check back to him and let him know his prices was outrageous for the food you received and service and would he consider reducing his bill!!! This place is low class in our book...and we all will spread the word with our company to never have an event there.

I have been here 3 time now. I enjoyed every visit. Once with my daughter they had a band playing Jazz music and I was suprised that it did not overwhelm our conversation. The food was great and the service too. The manager even took us on a tour upstairs even though they had closed it for the evening. What a great view of Downtown Nahville and they have three outdoor areas for dining and relaxing. The dessert was fantastic and I have been back just for that. If you have never haad the drink, Sambuca, you may want to experience it once...very strong...whew.

The ambiance and music was great at Sambuca, but our meal was way overpriced. Presentation was nice, but the flavor and substance was lacking. Both our meals were overcooked and quite dry. Try to get a seat on the opposite end of the dining room away from the stage - the tables are packed in tightly and conversation over the music was difficult. I would recommend Sambuca for a late night drink/appetizer, but not for an upscale dinner.

I went there with a business associated, the music was "on fire" The Diggy Band rocks! the food was great had it been hot and the prices are out of sight... Kim Crawford wine is $50.00 per bottle in the liquor store it is $11.95 per bottle. The food is good (need to change up ther menue alittle)... the chilean Seabass is the best but mine was cold.. why? The place is very dark so if you are out with a very friendly and giving girl but not that pretty this is the place for you. Good food, great music, crappy wait staff (snoddish). Like I said great music, great location, very dark inside, food was over priced for the quality I received.

I didn't enjoy the service I received at this restaurant and I have visited at least 3 times. My friends and I spent at least $800 there on this particular visit and we made reservations since our party was about 10 people. Our reservation wasn't honored, we waited 2 hours to be seated, and the hostess made us feel as if we were being an inconvenience to her when we asked for an additional chair for the 10th person that arrived. My friends and I were trying this place out to see if we wanted to host additional business meetings there, needless to say, I won't be hosting ANY dinner business meetings there. The food was average, just really bad service, which made everything else seem lackluster.

Wow! I ate at Sambuca today and I am now a convert! This is the first time in my life, and it's quite a lengthy life, that I have been greeted by a hostess that really seemed proud of her restaurant. Not only was she happy to see me, she happily discussed the decor, the design of the patio area, then she encouraged me to return for their fabulous happy hour - house wine for 3.00 - half price appetizers - what's not to love there? The food was beyond belief! My Sea Bass was perfect - flaky, moist, delicate in every bite. My daughter tried the Blackened Tuna - incredible! A huge portion perfectly seared, served with a wonderful crab and shrimp etouffe that would have made the Angles weep - and I don't even *like* tuna but found myself swapping bites with my daughter over and over! Oh, I almost forgot to mention the bisque! I wanted to lick the bowl! The only bisque I have ever had that was better was my own! Not only was the food good, our server, named Brittany, was great also. She handled us and several other tables with speed, style and charm. I cannot wait to go back!

My husband and I recently visited Sambuca to celebrate our 3rd. We had a great experience. I was a little miffed that they would not let us make a reservation after 6:30?!? So we had to wait about an hour. The food was AMAZING! My husband had the ostrich and it was divine. I had the stuffed chicken that was a tad on the dry side but served with a polenta that made up for it. Our server was overly nice, almost too nice! I was not expecting that as many people had ranted about the horrible service. The hostesses were nice as well. The music was great, everthing was great! We will go back ASAP and will for sure take guests there. Beautiful rest. - not what you normally see in Nashville.

I became a member specifically for the purpose to write a review for Sambuca. My boyfriend and I were coming into Nashville for only one night. It was a very special trip because we had not seen each other in months...needless to say we wanted to make it perfect. I was torn about where to eat based upon the many different reviews I read here, but let me just say that it was FANTASTIC.

I made a reservation on OpenTable and was concerned about them actually reading my request for a secluded table. My fears were quickly relieved when the hostess welcomed us by saying "so I hear this is an important night for you," and then brought us to a wonderful corner booth. Our waitress was friendly and informed us that they just got a new menu a couple of weeks ago. I don't know what it was before, but everything we tried was terrific. I had the double pork chop because it was a "signature item" and I'm so glad I did. My boyfriend had the NY Strip as well as the tuna and beef Carpaccio but by far the best thing of the night was the Crème Brule. UNREAL. I love crème brule and have it just about everywhere I go - this was one of the best I've had.

The live music was good (although a little corny at times) but all in all, we had a wonderful meal, good service, great wine and for a reasonable price...Sunday night is half price bottles of wine. :)

Pros: romantic setting, great food and live music

Cons: nothing

First a review of my food and then my dinning companions:

1. Way too much salt on the calamari. Way too much. I kept thinking the cook dropped the salt shaker. Then they put paremesan cheese over the top of it. Why? There was salt in the batter, salt in the cheese and salt in the dipping sauces...jeesh, why not just add some more salt! Ruined an otherwise perfectly done calamari.

2. My Sea Bass was rubbery. Sea bass should be flaky not rubbery. I could hardly cut it with my knife.

3. The watercress over the top of the bass was not stemmed. They were like three inches long. It was like eating twigs. I cut the stems off and finished the otherwise fine watercress.

4. The fennel, uncooked and what few pieces there were, had no flavor. You have to cook fennel to bring out the best flavor. It should have been made into a reduction sauce and then drizzled around the bass.

5. The rice over which lay the bass was to oily. It was tolerable, but too much oil.

6. The Chocolate mousse was fine although unexceptional. Too many adornments over it, nuts, cream, stawberries, blueberries...

Now on to my dinning companions meal:

1. The Salmon was old. It tasted too musty. It had little other flavor. And it came with a slathering of pink sauce all over it. STOP WITH THE SAUCES! It was otherwise well prepared, flaky and light. Why not grill it lightly over a bed of rosemary or applewood, something light? A DASH of salt and twist or two of pepper and lemon. That's all good salmon requires, if that!

2 Rice bed was sticky, overcooked. Sticky rice is an Asian specialty and should never be served to hold up salmon.

Now to the good points:
The beignets were to die for. Excellent! What happened to the empanadas?
The salads were quite tasty and fresh except that my vinegrette could have used a bit more vinegar
The vegetables served with the salmon were fine.

I expected something like a wine tasting where they talk a little about the wine or the label. Instead, we paid $20 for the James Bond themed Martini Tasting (There wasn't really anything James Bond about it) where we went from table to table to pick up different flavored martinis. Our party of six seemed to be about half of the participants so it was a very small turnout.

Ended up trying four: regular, lemon, pomegranite, and spiced (least liked by the group but my favorite). For $20 a group of friends can go anywhere and simply try four different flavored martinis. They were generous, I'll give them that - no one was counting the number or flavors of martinis anyone consumed. But since the event was merely an hour there's only so many you want to drink, back to back. I've never seen James Bond call a cab because he was a little too tipsy.

Sambuca is one of my favorite places in Nashville - but I may avoid any special events in the future.

Cons: Expensive

Every month a group of women friends selects a different dining venue in Nashville and the surrounding area for a gathering. We average between eight and twelve in our party and last night we dined at Sambuca. The organizer for the night was a bit put off by the fact that she was informed that her credit card would be charged $20 for each person who canceled on our group reservation (luckily we all attended). I should say that this group is well traveled and knows good food and good service on a global level.

I arrived early and after valet parking was seated on a comfortable couch in the bar area to await my party by a dark haired young woman who promptly provided me with my drink options, and menus. She was nothing but pleasant and helpful.

We were seated when everyone arrived (at the time of our reservation) and although I was a bit leary at first of being positioned next to the band, found it quite pleasant once they began to play. I was so pleased to hear good music at a decibel which allowed for conversation and listening enjoyment. I should also say that the band up to Nashville's high standard of musical talent. The food was excellent. Our waiter had no qualms about dividing our checks and the manager came by during the evening to ask how things were going.

After reading some of the review here, I would definitely suggest that if you had a bad experience the first time out, to try it again. No matter where you go (big city or small) there are people working in the hosptiality industry who do not understand that good service requires what we in the South like to refer to as Southern Hospitality. This is Nashville. This is what we are known for. This is what we expect when we dine out or in. Perhaps your waiter did not know that. I'm sure that management is working toward correcting those issues.

Do go back and give it a second try. I plan to in the near future.

Pros: Decor, food, music

Cons: Reservation policy

I visited this restaurant earlier this year. The atmosphere was hip, but the lighting was incredibily dim at our table. The menu was eclectic, but a little pricey. Everyone in our party felt like the food was pretty rich. Sambuca is okay, but there are many other restaurants I prefer in Nashville.

Ten of us went to Sambuca Saturday night & we were extremely impressed. We made reservations and were seated at our exact time as our table was ready & waiting for us. Our waiter, Wes, was perfect. He was always available when we needed him but was not intrusive. He was knowledgeable about the menu & that nights specials. A jazz band was playing and they added to the experience. The volume was loud enough for us to enjoy them but not so loud that you had to shout at your dinner companions. Our table had a variety of appetizers, entrees and desserts. There was not a bad item on any of our plates. The bartenders knew how to make the perfect dirty martini. From the valet to the hostess to the bartender to the wait staff- we did not encounter one rude person. I would highly recommend this place for a romantic night out or a group. We asked for separate checks and it was not a problem at all. The restaurant is beautiful with several different areas to "hang out" either inside or outside.

I have to admit the first time I went to Sambuca I was turned off by the service, however, I loved the atmosphere and music so I gave it another shot. I had guests in town and we had a great time. The service was outstanding and the food was incredible. I highly recommend the CREME BRULEE.
Oh and it is a little dark in there so ask your waiter for a flashlight to read the menu. I have read the other reviews and I would tell anyone to give it another shot. If it is your first time, make sure you check out the upstairs patio! Gorgeous view of our city!

I have been here about 4 times now, and have still had to many experiences of rude staff. One time was told I did not need a reservation and when I arrived, the wait was 45 minutes. The little short bald waiter told me he didn't have time to tell me which beers they had on tap; or time for my friend to tell her an order. There are too many other good places in town w/ nice service, especially ath these prices. Best to come at midnight after you have eaten and just liesurely drink.
