It's hard to justify giving an emty box theatre (that hasn't had a show in almost a year) five stars, but I'll explain my rationale.

First, the Just Off Broadway Theatre gets kudos for getting a renovation done in this tough econ. environment. They're not a top tier venue like Kauffman - or Starlight for that matter - thus they don't get the blueblood donations (that I know of).

Still, the place got a facelift this past year. It was always a cozy little place to catch a local show from a startup theatre group - or hit the Fringe there. But I sense there are more great things to come. Their new schedule shows The Coterie at Night - a professional company - as part of the lineup. This is a good thing for JOB.

With the rehab complete, I believe the Parks Dept. made an investment in something that citizens can really enjoy - or at least a needy group (the amatuer performing arts community that never seems to get a big check) that will be eternally grateful for the gesture.

The planets seems in allignment for Just Off Broadway and I'm optimistic that the new season will be the start of something significant. And even if it's only just a little better, that's not a bad thing in this tough financial climate. So there you have it: 5 stars - I hope they earn it!

Hit and miss is not the way I like to approach an evening out on the town. And when it comes to local theatre it seems that miss is more often realized than hit. Not so with Just Off Broadway. Always fun, always entertaining and with that
