Well despite the warnings I gave plaza square a try. So far I have had a few problems with things not being quite right but the building manager has promised to make them right. She seems pretty nice and very honest about trying to make you feel happy and welcome.

I had a problem with maintenance just walking into my apartment like they lived there but the manager assured me it wouldn't happen again. I hope not because that would definitely be an issue to cause me to move immediately. Its not home if people you dont live with just walk in whenever they feel like it. Hell let them rent the space if thats the case and ill move out lol. Im still not comfortable in that area....but we'll see.

I saw a roach my first night there the manager had the bug man spray the other day but I just saw one in the bedroom this afternoon so Im going to see if they sprayed the whole apartment and probably get my own bug guy. The Mills does have a 3 month promise that if you absolutely hate your apartment you can go, Im still holding out on a final decision so as for now I cant say Id recommend the place because its just too soon to say.

I love the location, love the apartment itself minus the bug thing. I have tons of closet space, new carpet and new tile in the kitchen .They also put in new AC units. I need a few minor repairs like the bathroom sink has a bum leg.I actually like the old sink its just damaged on one end, the manager said they'd put in a new sink but I dont know I kinda like the old one.

I like looking out my windows checking out whats going on outside and the location is convenient, downtown is fun theres plenty to do.I went to Taste of St.Louis Saturday evening practically right outside the door and had a blast. Union Station and the metro link are right across the street.

The building doesn't seem noisy at all and people are friendly. I never hear my neighbors walking over my head or stuff like that so that's cool as hell. The management staff are all polite and seem pretty nice too.If I get the bug thing straight and the maintenance issue resolved I can see myself staying here a long time but then its only been 6 days Ill keep you posted.

Plaza Square apartments will leave you with more concerns and problems than solutions and answers. They refuse to take responsibility for their actions. My experience dealing with their leasing office has never been a good one.
When roaches infested my, very well kept, apartment I called the leasing office and was told I was added to the list of apartments to be sprayed. I was not added to that list until my 3ed call, almost a week later. Days after that they did come by and squirt a few sprays of, what i found out to be, a $7 tube of bug killer informing me the bugs moved from an apartment two stories above me due to the drilling of new cable lines. Its been over a month and my infestation is still no where near taken car of.
When the only set of keys i was given were lost they informed me it would be $130 to replace them. Later finding out I signed a lease saying they gave me two sets of keys, only one of which i received. Now, almost three weeks later, they still have not made an attempt to get me replacement keys. They don't seem to care that I can't lock the door to my own home and every time I come home I have to walk around the building to buzz myself in. Not to mention it took them 6 months to even set up my phone so I could buzz myself in.
When I contacted the leasing office with a time sensitive maintenance problem they did send someone within the Mills Properties promised 48 hours. The problem was the maintenance person said it was only a temporary fix to my leaking sink and he would return to permanently fix the problem. Again, months later, and nothing has been done to make sure my sink doesn't leak again.
Other problems you may want to prepare yourself for if you're considering a move to Plaza Square include; waiting for long periods for their, previously condemned/poorly maintained elevators; being told you must move your vehicle out of their parking lot, which I pay for monthly, or it will be towed (they will not hesitate to tow your vehicle, it has happened to me twice); the disgusting state of the hallways, elevators, gym, and most repulsive of all the laundry room; and most importantly of all prepare yourself to deal with a leasing office staff that is careless, irresponsible, and money hungry and will time and time again prove that they are simply useless due to their lack of job know how.
Now you may be wondering why i say these things about the leasing office but I will prove them to be true. After all of these problems collected without a single solution i made the choice to move. When my new apartment checked my renters credit it showed an eviction from Plaza Square Apartment (mind you I was living there at this time). Now the crossed the line from making an extremely difficult living situation to falsely affecting my future ability to rent. I was never facing eviction in the first place so I don't see how they managed to put an eviction on my credit. To me this shows not only their lack of job know how but also their complete inconsideration for their residents. Beyond that they even refused to take, what i thought was, an obvious responsibility for their huge mistake. I can't believe my home put me in a situation where there is little I can do to fix it and those who have the ability and responsibility to do so not only deny their responsibility but refuse to take the necessary steps to resolve the situation they have put me in. The Mills property of Plaza Square will ruin your home life and have no problem taking your future with it.

The new management is worse then the old management. Look somewhere else to live downtown or youll be sorry.

Pros: DOWNTOWN LIVING

.

25 years ago Civic Progress was persuaded
to eliminate all downtown music, arts and culture-
especially Kiel Opera House to protect the
Fox Theater. Since then they have not allowed
the City to bring back our dead and dangerous
civic plaza..while pouring 3 billion dollars into
the Gateway Mall east of Tucker.. Not three
cents west of Tucker. Kiel could have done it
a dozen years ago. That's what downtown
performing arts centers do

The money then jumped to grand center-
hundreds of millions and on out to the
Central West End. Next 50 million to gouge
trolley tracks into the pavement to trolly
people from Joe Edwards Place to a deadbutt
museum. .

In the Park, Civic Progress choked MUNY down
to protect the Fox She closes a record early
August 9th.

The combined restraint of trade of Kiel
and MUNY has cost St. Louis its convention
and group travel business, finally took Plaza Square, Jefferson Arms and Union Station goes next.

Kansas City has buried St. Louis as a destination.
In three weeks no one will remember where
the All Star game was held..or who won.

Our sports and casinos downtown is
a total failure.

I have submitted more data to the U.S.
Attorney asking him to stop the restraint
of trade of Kiel and MUNY for obvious reasons.

The reason I renewed my lease is that it is the cheapest place to live downtown AND I have a balcony. With all the places going condo ? it is great to see a place that still rents apartments. BUT you truly do get what you pay for. The common areas are very run-down and dirty. The cleaners only do surface cleaning ? not any deep cleaning which it desperately needs. The hallway carpets are extremely dirty with stains especially near the garbage closet. The basement and stairway have concrete floors and haven?t been cleaned in years or been cleaned with very dirty water. The laundry room is in the basement and is dirty ? just don?t drop anything on the floor and check the machine before you put anything in. --- Two years ago there was security staff on almost 24/7. In the past few months, I haven?t seen a single one ? I don?t think they have them anymore. Let?s face it, it is downtown and it is ok during the day, but at night it does get scary. --- Also with it being a cheaper place to live, some of my neighbors are not the most desirable. One group finally moved out ? they use to urinate in the elevator and break the locks on the outside doors. --- The office staff is a mixed bag. GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING. I got burned on this. The leasing agent told me one thing and come to find out it wasn?t true ? guess who is paying for that mistake. --- When you call in about anything that needs fixed in your apartment, generally you have to wait quite a while and make numerous phone calls. Last year I didn?t have an air-conditioner that worked while it was in the mid 90?s and it took a week for them to put in a new one. --- Lastly, the elevators: Last year when it rained, it rained in the elevators. For a while both were down, but they did re-open one. This year, I got stuck in the elevators twice. Now the elevators have been shut down by the Fire Marshall and will be shut down for at least three more weeks because the parts are obsolete and have to be manufactured.

State condemned the elevators because landlord refused for two years to get proper inspections and no elevator company would do work because he never paid the last elevator company. Swimming pool closed by City Department. Laclede gas gave notice they were going to shut gas to all buildings on August 9th, because landlord has not paid bill. Hall ways filthy, lots of sewer problems in basement and laundromat constantly has insects. Repairs in apartments take months or never get done and tenants get fed up and move out. City has had the landlord in court several times this month (July 07) for code and safety violations. They put on a good show in the office about how wonderful everything is and how they are tending to needed repairs but it is all a sham. They own another complex in Pennsylvania and have a bad reputation there too. All St. Louis TV station have aired bad comments about Plaza Square. Let' put it this way, it is bad enough that it makes the prime time news almost daily this month. DO NOT MOVE IN HERE, PLEASE Check out comments At apartmentratings (dot) com
