This place is GREAT!! My kids are very well behaved every time we go here because they're so interested in the trains all around them! The food is a little pricey for what you get, but it tastes good and the whole family has a lot of fun. We go every time we make it out to Crown Center!

Inside Crown Center! Very convenient after a day of Ice Skating, Shopping and visiting Union Station. The kids will get a huge kick out of eating here, when a Train drops off their meal! Resonable prices for a great experience.
Highly Recommended, Perfect Family Place!

Fritz's is a fun place to take the family when you are bored with regular old American restaurants and need something to entertain the kids. They will be amused by the train that brings the food and everyone will enjoy their meal.

Fritz's is a fun place for all ages. Not only do they have great hamburgers and the like, but the food comes to you on a little train. You call your food in from your table, then wait for the little train to run around the track, stop at your table and deliver your meal. GREAT.

Great spot for kids...the train is such a cute addition and the looks of their faces when the train delivers is priceless. Very loud so be prepared to speak up.
During busy times, you could wait up to 30 minutes in lines for lunch - but

My husband and I decided to take our 4 children to this restaurant when we arrived at Crown Center too late to catch the free Clifford exhibit. We were looking for something fun for the kids (ages 8, 7, 4, and 2) to do since they were bummed to have missed the Clifford exhibit.

It was a Tuesday night & Fritz's was not busy at all, so we decided to try it out. From the get go the staff was really rude & seemed bored & annoyed at just about everything. I was a little surprised that everything was "al la cart", and I could tell it was going to be pricey to feed our family of 6, but I was hoping it was going to be good food at least. Nope! The portions were small, the burgers were disgusting, the fries were cold, and there is no such thing as a free drink refill at this place (didn't know anyone still did that)! But, hey....they did deliver our disgusting, cold food by train right to our table. So, I guess that's really what you pay for, because it sure isn't for the food or service.

Oh, and there is no restroom inside the Crown Center location. You have to walk out of the restaurant, around the corner, and head down the hall to the mall restrooms....which is *super* convenient when you have 4 small children with bladders the size of peanuts!

Oh, and this is quite possibly the dirtiest, nastiest restaurant I've ever eaten at. Our table was dirty, the walls behind the booth were dirty, and the highchairs were filthy. My kids were enjoying watching the trains, otherwise I would have gotten up and left I was so grossed out!

For what it's worth, I have never written a restaurant review before, but I just could not believe this place actually has 5 star reviews! I guess there are quite a few people out there with very low expectations, because I've had better food and better service at McDonald's, and my kids were just as entertained with McDonald's free play place. Oh....and McDonald's doesn't cost $50 to feed my family!

So NOT worth the novelty of having a train drop some food off at your table! I would suggest you stop by, watch the trains make a loop or two around the restaurant & then go eat somewhere that won't make you sick!

Just went to Fritz's at Crown Center and had a great time. You sit at your table and phone your order in and a then a train running along the ceiling drops your food at your table...very cool. The burger with hash browns on the top was one of the best I've ever had. Everyone really liked the onion rings and shakes too. I would highly recommend it to both kids and adults, everyone will have fun.

While visiting from out of State we took two of our grand kids here. They are into trains but the train novelty ran out before the food arrived. The servers were nice enough but I would never recommend anyone actual eat here as the food was over priced and of poor quality. I have to say, my son loves trains so he was so exctied and happy to be there. He was amazd at all the trains and how the food was brought out to the tables. That's where this place hit's it's high point.
The low point? Everything else. The food was horrible and way over priced. The people who worked there were rude and acted as if they hated thier jobs.
But the worst part of our day was when we left. My son forgot his stuffed dog 'Simon' in the seating area. When I went back to retrieve it, the busboy said he gave it to the hostess at the front desk.
I had just informed her that my son had left him so I was puzzeled at why she wouldn't remember.
When I asked her about the animal, she addmitted to GIVING IT TO ANOTHER CUSTOMER!!!!!!!!!!

I can't begin to describe the rage I felt. My son is crushed as this has been his sidekick form THE DAY HE WAS BORN. The worst part was, all I got from the woman and the manager... "Sorry for the inconvinience" .

I'll never go back. If you try it, please go to a different location, this one is horrible.

My son and his Beta Club group ate there when they were on their field trip yesterday. They had a blast ! They toured Science City, had lunch at Union Station, saw "Fly Me To The Moon" at Imax, then came down to Crown Center and Fritz's for their midafternoon snack. My son always enjoys things that are on the cutting edge ! Plus, he loves trains ! He thought it was pretty cool that you call in your order on the phone from the booth and that your food is brought by a train on the tracks and then dropped down right to you! I have never been to Fritz's, but am planning on going when I go to Kansas City ! Thanks for this very cool restaurant !

We stopped in here 1.3.08 while having our 4 year old and 6 month old out at Crown Center. I have to say, the trains were treally neat and mhy 4 year old really enjoyed them but is NOT worth it to go back. First of all, as we waited in line to be seated a server kept coming out and asking for party numbers and seated three groups of people before us that were in line BEHIND us. I don't care what your party number is you seat the people that get there first!!! .......and the worst part --- the food was atrocious. I took a bite of my tenderloin sandwhich and it tasted like (I kid you not) the smell of urine. I had to rid of it in my napkin because I couldn't even swallow it. I thought maybe it was just me so I had my husband taste it and he did the same. At that point, I tried the nuggets my son was eating to see if they were edible....disgusting....I wouldn't even let him finish the rest. We paid, left and will NEVER go back.

I only gave Fritz 2 stars because of the child charm of the train delevering your food. The food was over priced and not tasty. The hostess were not polite. I would ony go back unless if my child drove me crazy asking to go.. Then if i had to go i would order the cheapest thing have it delevered my the train then go eat real food elewhere.

I had walked over to Crown Center with two collegues on recommendation from a friend from the KC area. I am from Manhattan and wanted to scope out a few possible places to bring our two preschool/kindergarten age boys this summer. Both myself and the ladies with me enjoyed ourselves as well as finding a hot spot for future visits. We all chose to have chili dogs and were surprised to have the dogs cut in 3-4" portions and laying across the bun. This made it easier to eat like a sandwich. The onion rings were like homemade also. It was "Take Your Child To Work Day" and there were several young gentleman at work with their mothers. We overheard the manager giving the boys a certificate of appreciation and a little speech. Too adorable!! The service was speedy and cheerful!! Overall, we had a great experience and I look forward to sharing this restaurant with my family!

We went to Fritz's today because my 2 year old LOVES trains. Everything was great. The people that rate this poor must NEVER eat at McDonald's, Chucky Cheese, or really like kids. Hello people, yes this is a diner with diner style food...if you are looking for the Ritz, the Hyatt, or some other white glove that doesn't allow or turns their nose up at kids...you aren't going to find it here. Also, why in the world would people go during the holidays when everyone and their uncle are at Crown Center Christmas shopping. Do you honestly think you are the only hot, hungry, and grouchy from shopping. Also as parents, you know you aren't going for the food, but to experience the joy your child has at the restaurant. This is a don't miss restaurant if you have kids, but you won't find another like it!!!!

We went Crown Center to Fritz's today for lunch and it was wonderful. We order the regular hamburgers, a tendelion and several orders of fries. All were VERY good. Not small at all! All our food arrived very hot and tasted great.

The kids loved the trains. We adilts enjoyed it also.

We feed 4 people for under $20.00. We all did drink ice water, so that did help on the cost of our meal.

The waiters were very nice and always coming by to see if we needed anything at all.

We will for sure go back whenever we are in Kansas City!!

My husband and I took our 8 year old grandson to the restaurant because he loves trains and we always like trying different places. The only thing that was positive was the train service. The food was very poor. My husband and I ordered chili and a grilled cheese. The chili was beans on the bottom, meat on the top - no tomatoes, onions, liquid, anything. The sandwich looked and tastes like it had been made hours ago - one side was cooked, the other not! The hamburger and fries were just mediocre - nothing you would want to order again. The help seemed bored and tired and some were quite unfriendly. Other than the trains, don't waste your money.

I was looking forward to bringing my 4 year old (who loves trains) to a restaurant where your meal is delivered by trains. I knew the food was going to be ordinary diner food, but didn't realize it was going to be very small, very greasy portions. My son was interested in the train delivery system, so that kept him quiet and well behaved, but I really felt I did him a dis-service by bringing him into such a filthy restaurant with ordinary service at best. The staff wasn't entusiastic at all about their novelty train decor and all looked like they couldn't wait for the end of their shift. For the bad quality of food, and lack of service, I should have brought my family to McDonald's. At least that would have been clean and served with a smile. I never write restaurant reviews, but I actually read some good reviews on Fritz's that lead me to go there. Please understand that it was filthy, bad food, ordinary service, and the whole train thing - very cheesy, very cheep. If all you want is a restaurant that'll keep your kids quite during dinner, get a baby sitter. I looked forward to surprising my wife and kids but ended up being very embarrassed and disappointed. When we were done, I took them to another restaurant for a real dinner.

The train service concept is the only positive I can share. The kids love it. The service is slow. The food is marginal at best. It is also high priced (which is usually expected at Crown Center). I would rather eat a McDonalds (and don't get me started on how much I dislike McDonalds).

I have grown up with the owner and son and know them both well. This has NO BEARING WHATSOEVER in my review. I am a hard reviewer and those I rate high EARN THAT RATING. The train is great, the kids love it. The hamburgers and fries and cheesburgers and icecream are the best around. I have eaten in the finest restaraunts in the world and Fritz's is hands down THE BEST AROUND! Yes at times the service can be a tad slow but when the food gets to you and once you've snarfed it all down, you will be hooked. Their food is TOP NOTCH!

My kid cannot get enough of Fritz's Railroad Restaurant. He is four and wants to go there every week.

The food tastes fine but it's not as inexpensive as it seems. The wait can be long even on a weekday around noon so get there early.

The real treat is the Railroad delivery system. I just wish they'd open one up further south.

Stopped there last Friday (12/20) as I had read about it on one of my railroad sites for KC. Love the
concept but the service was very bad (took over
30 minutes to get a simple order) and it really wasn't that busy (I noticed that we were not the only ones having bad service). When we got our food it tasted terrible. Talked to management and
the only thing they would offer was soft-drink refills and some gift certificates which we turned down.
They thought that we were joking about the service but I never joke about service (I work in the service sector and I treat by customer with upmost respect).

.

the gen dare may be the best burger ever designed- it is hard to get the kids toi settle down because of the trains. Like the KCK original location even better.

Oh Please, Fritz's rated in the top 10??? Yeah the train delivered food is catchy, a great place to bring the kids (once), but good food? I would rate Sonic, even McDonalds food better than what I had at Fritz's. The chili was fatty, the burgers tiny - the only saving grace was their chocolate shakes.

Pros: value, flavorful

My kids always want to eat here. They love the trains that deliver the food straight to the table. But burgers, fries, and drinks for 3 cost about $20 and the quality is comparable but worse than White Castle. There is a long wait on the weekends but midweek, midday service is incredibly slow as well.

We love to come here and brings guests. They always enjoy watching the trains go around by the ceiling and deliver the burger/shakes/fries which, while not large, are very tasty and inexpensive.
