I can't believe this is even an issue with Cindy. She is truly one of the nicest people I have ever known & tries to make everyone feel welcome in her gym. Even though I haven't been able to work out there for awhile (because my work location closed), I remember her gym with fondness. I have never found a gym that is so supportive of fitness goals. I would love to go back if my work situation changes. There's a lot of really fit people downtown St Louis because of Cindy!

To everyone with even a slightly open mind (having read some of the prior reviews):

I have been a fan of Cindy Brenneke's and IronWorks for many years now. She gives so much "extra" value added for such a reasonable low price, that it is basically a steal for anyone who happens to find their way to the One Met stomping grounds of IronWorks. And she knows her "fitness and health" stuff - and incorporates it into the programs IW has put in place. And Cindy and company have well perfected the lessons of "The Power of Nice" (all should read this short gem - see Linda Kaplan Thaler and Robin Koval; Random House).

There are few nicer than Cindy (I can't actually think of any) - and it doesn't matter who you are - Cindy and company treat the lowliest of the lows and the mightiest of the mights, EXACTLY THE SAME - i.e., very well.

Just check IW out, you will be amazed at all the extras you get for one very low price!

May you always be healthy.

A very satisfied IW customer (and friend) - which is what almost every IW customer becomes.

See you there!

I am an african american man. I have been going to Iron Works for over two years. The gym is a great place to work out. There are several options to choose from when it comes to classes/programs for your physical development. You are consistently challenged, encouraged, and supported as you work towards changing your body and overall health. I highly recommend the gym on those merits alone.

Relating to the comments about Cindy's personal/political beliefs, it is unfortunate that the original poster is not mature enough to be able to distinguish between personal opinion and prejudice. Cindy is open, welcoming, and kind to everyone in the gym, regardless of race, etc. She has to be as a small business owner. But, I also believe she is this way because she is genuinly a nice person. I consider her to be a personal friend, who may or may not have the same political beliefs as I do. Regardless, I don't let politics frame my feelings/ideas about her or her business.

I wonder if she sent out flyers/newsletters supporting Obama, would anyone have made a complaint? If I, as a black man, do not support Obama and hold to the same conservative ideals that Cindy has, does that make me a racist towards my own people? No. It means that I have an opinion. Should she have sent the newsletter out or not? Who cares? Again, if she was supporting Obama, I doubt there would have been a complaint anyway.

I am not sure how long "zang g" or "sensible c" had attended Ironworks Fitness, but obviously they thought the gym was adequate prior to Cindy expressing her political beliefs through her newsletter. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and although I believe the newsletter should not have been sent, I do not believe this gym nor its?? owner / proprietor is ??hate-filled.? Sometimes politics and religion are touchy subjects and should probably not be discussed in a business setting, but "zang g" and "sensible c" should NOT try and destroy the livelihood of Cindy Brenneke and the future of Ironworks Fitness!

Ironworks Fitness, in downtown St. Louis, is a great facility. It offers a variety of fitness equipment ranging from treadmills, to elliptical cross trainers, to exercise bikes, etc., as well as strength training equipment, both free weights and machines. Ironworks Fitness also offers several fun and effective classes in which to participate. I have been attending this gym for over a year and find it very accommodating -- I would recommend it to anyone!

If you are considering Ironworks Fitness, try it and form your own opinion about the facility and the owner.

First of all I have been going to this Gym for a year and have received every News Letter put out by Cindy and I have read the one to which "zane g" references. I see Absolutely no inference to race or hate towards African Americans what so ever. I have had many discussions with Cindy on politics and the whole presidential election, some of which we agreed and others we disagreed. But we live in a democratic society where we are entitled to free speech. You do not have to agree with a person but that is no reason to slander the person with you own generalizations. I applaud Cindy for being involved and vocal on her opinions.Craig.

This is not a gym that citizens should patronize or become members of. The folks who run this joint, more importantly Cynthia Brenneke who is filled with hate and lets her vile rhetoric about African Americans be known, and then hides behind God.

Is this what a business should be about? I think not! The employees and owners there need to keep their supremacist thoughts to themselves and not impose them on others.
