Tropical Palms is a Jamaican/Caribbean restaurant located near the old Bannister Mall. Even though the location is less than ideal, the restaurant is kept up well. The interior is clean and cute with hand-painted murals and tropical music playing.

My coworkers and I came here for lunch on a Friday. There were no other people in the restaurant when we arrived, and when we left a little after noon there were only two other tables occupied. Despite being the only people in the restaurant, the kitchen was quite slow and took a while to make our food.

However, other than the slow kitchen, the service was good, the food was great, and the prices were amazing! Before the meal came, they served a delicious crusty bread with a cinnamon/sugar/cream cheese concoction to spread on it. Most of us had the Island Chicken sandwich special, which included a side of either fries or onion rings, and several nice touches such as grilled pineapple and grilled plantains. Another coworker had the jerk chicken which he also liked. (Most meals did involve jerk seasoning.) The sandwich and side (no drink) was only $5! The restaurant offered a discount for our employer, but the food was so good and the prices were so reasonable that we didn't even ask for the discount!

If you are in the area and don't mind a slow lunch, I recommend this restaurant!
