After hearing of El Patron on KCPT's "Check Please!", I've visited several times thru the last year. Let me sum up my experiences and rate it with an overall dissatisfaction. It's not that the food and drinks aren't good, but when I pay for food, I like it to be a pleasant experience. Especially with the economy tanking- ya want to know you were wise with the cash flow. For starters they bring you a baby-sized-cereal-bowl of chips, and act quite miffed if you ask for a second bowl (which they MAKE you do- no follow up service here). The salsa servings are ample, but again you have to ASK for more. They are delicious, altho I agree with earlier posts that the hot is not consistent in it's delivery from one visit to the next. The dishes are fantastic- however, the quantity lacks. Most men will have to eat a couple bowls of chips to quench a hungry appetite. I like it when a portion of my Mexican meal packs up and goes home with me for a lunch serving. (Something many KC restaurants accomodate). Never have taken a container home from El Patron! Having said all that... the most egregious is the service. I ain't out to make friends when I'm dining, but I have only had one friendly server in all my visits. I wish I could commend him by name, but I haven't seen him since. I am sad to say, I won't go back- the food is good, but you have to be willing to accept small servings and getting treated RUDELY. I want something better for my money and patronage. I say cross the street for the long standing Ponak's!

Carne Asada Tacos and Mexican Torte are Stellar! Everyhing is very authentic home style. The owners are wonderful people. Highly recommended.

Pros: Authentic

Cons: A little pricey, but beter now that they have lunch menu.
